APRIL

David Lane has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. Our parents, being best friends themselves, definitely encouraged our relationship. A wedding between us was almost too predictable, but I was happy about it. Always attentive, protective, and acting like a real-life Prince Charming, he was the absolute perfect husband material.

Did he have any flaws? Of course. The man was raised with the belief of saving himself for marriage.

It was always the same excuse: his religious parents held fast to the idea of a virgin wedding night, he couldn't let them down, and it was just no, no, and no. A total nightmare, but we held out—or at least, that's what I thought until today.

I was finishing getting ready in a small room at the chapel when I heard my fiancé's voice. I slowly walked closer and started hearing him moan. Moan?

As I stepped away from my makeshift dressing room, the cheerful voices of the guests grew louder, and so did my fiancé's moans.

While I debated whether or not to open the door, I prayed he was just taking care of himself and wasn't with someone else. But all my hopes were mercilessly crushed when I saw him with someone very close to us.

The sight before my eyes broke everything inside me: my heart, my dreams, and all my hopes for love. I had never felt a pain like this; it was completely gut-wrenching and inexplicable.

"April..." they both stared at me in absolute shock, caught red-handed.

"You lying bastards! How could you do this to me?" My screaming would surely alert the guests, but right now, I couldn't care less.

"April, calm down, I can explain." I looked at David like I had never truly known him. Cheating on me like this? For God's sake, I was his best friend as well as his fiancée; he could have trusted me.

"What is there to explain, David? It’s more than clear what's going on here." I pointed at both of them. He tried to reach out to me, but I slapped his hand away hard before turning on my heel and storming out.

As I walked away, the tears immediately started to fall, and there was no way to avoid the guests seeing me walk into the main hall.

I held my head high, gathered up my dress so I wouldn't trip, and marched straight for the exit.

"Sweetheart, what's wrong?" Mrs. Lane and my mother rushed over to me.

"The wedding is off. I'm not marrying that cheating bastard." Even though my voice sounded steady, inside I was a waterfall of tears.

"April!" When I heard David shout my name, I knew it was time to run. I ran non-stop, wishing the ground would open up and swallow me whole, but I wasn't that lucky.

A few minutes after fleeing the chapel, I kicked off my shoes and cursed myself for picking a ballgown. It was beautiful, but utterly useless for running, and from now on, it would just be a reminder of why I can't trust men.

People were staring at me—some with pity, others looking at me like I was crazy. To be fair, I didn't feel very sane in that moment either.

I stopped to catch my breath, looking around, trying to figure out where the hell I was. I caught my reflection in a nearby storefront window and finally understood all the stares: I was a walking disaster. My makeup was completely ruined, with long streaks of mascara running down my cheeks. My hair was a mess; what had once been an elegant bun woven with flowers had turned into a terrifying scarecrow’s nest. Yep, I was ready to star in a horror movie.

How could the best day of my life turn into this? How could David betray me? He was supposed to love me. A sob escaped my lips, and I quickly covered my mouth with my hand. I couldn't cry. He didn't deserve my tears; no man did.

Taking one last look at myself, I swore this would be the last time I ever cried over anyone. I would let myself grieve today, but I would never fall for their empty promises of love again.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted David running just a few yards behind me, closely followed by our best man, Chad.

Spinning around, I bolted straight into the traffic, not even caring that the light was green.

As I dodged through the jungle of cars, I knew I could get run over, but I didn't care. I threw one last glance back at the guys chasing me, completely oblivious to the fact that I was stepping right into the path of a red car.

AbbyI stalled by walking around almost the entire hospital. There were still many unattended patients, which gave me the perfect excuse to delay our conversation. I did not even know if he was awake yet and I was already making up excuses to avoid seeing him.Very good maturity level, Abigail Colman! As I walked slowly, very slowly, to the room where Michael was, I thought about what I would say to him. The guys said I should let him explain, Dr. Myers said I should face my ghosts. And I knew Ryan had been the most accurate; I was resisting out of fear of losing someone important to me again. My resistance was so strong that I almost lost him today. What would have happened if they had not managed to get him out? What if he had bled to death on the way? I tried to ignore the feelings of pain and the tightness forming in my chest just thinking about it.When I entered the room, he was still unconscious. He looked so peaceful that I envied that state. My hand seemed to have a mind of i

AbbyI could hear them talking and it calmed me to know that they had not suffered serious injuries either. I approached almost soundlessly, while they continued their conversation. They were so focused that they did not seem to notice me."He is a fucking idiot, we told him to get out and he did not do it. What was he planning? To kill himself?" Logan growled."We know he is not the same, he is even more reckless than before." As I observe Jack, I can see how his arm is still bleeding. Despite being told that they were treated, I see that they were not."Do you think he is okay? He was quite hurt." Stepping out of my hiding spot, I decide to answer the question that was meant for Jack."He is fine, he just needs a few stitches. I took care of treating him, so he should wake up any minute."When they looked up at me, I leaned in to grab the necessary things to treat Jack's arm. They just looked at me as if trying to figure out if it was really me and how they should talk to me."They

Abby"Abby, could you go check on Mr. Thomas?" I looked at Elena, my new nursing supervisor."Sure, I will go right now," I commented with a slight smile.I have spent this last month trying to get used to my new routine. It was hard to get the transfer, but when I achieved it, I did not hesitate. I could not stay there, I did not feel comfortable.I have not seen anyone since that day; since I ran, I completely moved away from the city. Let's call it a fresh start, one where I was completely alone, where I had no family, no friends, and not the boy I love.It was not easy to leave all that behind, especially considering that your head seems to fight against the idea of not seeing him anymore. I just need time; with time, everything is forgotten and overcome. Even if I wanted to, I cannot go back now. What would I say? I still cannot shake the image of seeing him turn into that wolf.Dr. Myers, the psychologist I visit every Tuesday afternoon, told me it was common; the loss of a love

AbbyWhen I heard the sound of bones and clothes breaking, I did not understand what the hell was happening. I only knew that I should not look up; I did not want to and I refused to.I tried, but I clearly failed. Only then did I see how that huge dog occupied the place where Michael was before. My mind works in strange ways; I did not understand, or did not want to understand, how the guy I was in love with was a dog. And not in the usual sense, he was literally a dog.I directed my gaze to Jack, but when his eyes met mine, he looked away. I searched for the gaze of the others, and they all avoided me. Did they turn out to be cowards now?Everything was happening too fast. One moment I was watching the dog, or Michael, walk towards us, and I was just hoping he did not want to eat me.I closed my eyes in fear, this was madness. It was surely the stress caused by this situation. But if that was the case, why was the giant dog still walking towards me?"Calm down Abby, he will not hurt

Michael"We found something." When Anibal said that, we were standing right next to him. Mostly me, I do not mind saying it; I grabbed the man by the lapels of his suit and planted a kiss on him worthy of an Oscar. Unfortunately, my display of gratitude was not well received, as he pushed me away and started rubbing his mouth. He does not know how lucky he was.But the good thing was that there was finally news. We were running out of options, we could not think of anywhere else to go. Ordoñez had called to let us know they still had not found anything. Frustrating? Yes, police incompetence was fucking frustrating. But what could we do? According to them, wait for updates, otherwise, we would hinder the search. In my opinion, a damn joke!"What are you waiting for to tell us where they are?" Ryan growled."I am trying to wrap my head around the idea. Believe it or not, it is important to me too. I am fucking in love with Abigail." And there it was again. How many more times was he goi

MichaelSeven hours. Seven fucking hours! They had passed and I still did not have a single damn clue about where my mate was. Thousands of questions swirled in my head and I did not want to answer them for fear they would come true... Where could she be? Were they treating her right? Who the hell was the damn coward that dared to take them? Those were some of the questions that shattered my peace of mind. I was shaking like an addict who had not had his fix."I am getting tired of waiting for that fucking useless guy to move his ass and find my woman," Ryan growled, overly annoyed."You calm down too, we managed to calm down the big guy with a minion complex and now you are starting. Do not mess with me!" At that, I look up, directing my gaze at Robert."Who said I am calm? I am simply waiting for the best moment to act." They are crazy if they think I will be calm with my mate in the hands of a lunatic.I am waiting for them to get distracted so I can run out of here. The first plac
