Ivy POV

I woke up with a jolt, pulling myself into a sitting position, my gaze scanning the room. I wasn't in my own bed, but I could smell that Alex had been here moments ago. The faintest trace of his scent lingered on the pillow, mixed with a sharper, wilder scent that I realized, with a shiver, was my own.

Was last night a dream?

Flashes hit before I could stop them, the bunny suit, the party, Nina's laugh, the crowd pointing. Then Alex, sweeping in to save me.

Ivy POV"Are you sure about this?" Alex asked, sounding concerned as I grabbed my handbag and started to climb out of the car. His gaze lingered, sharp and searching, like he was hoping to spot something I’d missed."I am," I replied. "Gotta make nice with the one who grew up under my father's roof." I tried to sound casual, but my voice wobbled at the edges. The idea of finding my father of having a family at all still felt surreal, like a story I’d read in someone else’s book.Alex raised an eyebrow, skepticism plain on his face."Don't look at me like that," I said. "She's still the lady of the house until it's decided otherwise." I tried to summon confidence, but my stomach twisted. The truth was, I didn’t know what Nina would do next, only that I’d prefer to find out on my own terms.I let out a breath. "I can't replace—""You're the real heir," Alex cut me off, his words quiet but fierce."True, but no one knows th

  • Between Two Moons: The Scent of a Stranger   Chapter 79: Lunch Date

Ivy POV"Ah, good, there you are," Nina called out, making her way to our table with a wide, easy smile, like she was genuinely happy to see us. Her confidence was effortless, her presence almost the definition of belonging, except for the way Alex bristled and the way Lux stiffened inside me."Everything was so perfect until she walked in," Lux growled in my mind, her hackles up.I ignored her and kept my gaze on Nina, determined not to show any weakness. "You could have called," I said, keeping my voice light, careful to sound casual."I misplaced my phone again," she chirped, like it was the most common thing in the world, and shrugged. "Clumsy me." Her smile never wavered, but I caught the flicker of calculation behind her eyes.Alex sat back in his chair, clearly unhappy about Nina interrupting us. His arms crossed, posture going defensive. I could feel the tension building."What do you want, Nina?" he asked, and her gaze f

  • Between Two Moons: The Scent of a Stranger   Chapter 78: Shopping Trip

Ivy POVAlex looked a bit more like himself after the meeting with the scouts. His shoulders were looser, his eyes clearer. For the first time that day, his smile was unguarded."He seems less anxious now," Lux said. "I hope he gets it.""Me too," I replied. The tension that had gripped him all morning seemed to have melted away, replaced by something lighter, like hope, maybe, or just relief. We were almost at the mall, one place I usually avoided. Not because I didn’t like shopping, but because you can't do much shopping without the resources for it. The idea of spending someone else’s money, or being treated, left a knot of discomfort low in my stomach. I didn't want to owe anyone. I didn't want to feel like a guest in my own life. And somehow I was already dreading this. I didn't like the idea of Alex taking me shopping. I'd rather buy my own clothes."Don't even think of bolting," Alex said, as if reading my mind. His tone w

  • Between Two Moons: The Scent of a Stranger   Chapter 77: Scouts Interview

Alex POVIt was the first time I'd seen Ivy reluctant to leave, maybe she was still riding the high of being a wolf, maybe it was everything that had happened, or maybe, just maybe, it was because she could feel the bond with her pack growing.Eventually she said her goodbyes. Her hug with Magnus lasted a moment longer than I expected, and Cassius squeezed her shoulder with a gentleness I hadn’t seen from him before. There was a new gravity in the way she looked at them, like she was already part of something bigger, something ancient and unbreakable.Magnus watched in silence as we climbed into the car and took our leave. Cassius had already said his farewell before rushing off to some pack emergency again. I took Ivy's hand and gave it a small squeeze, offering what comfort I could."Are you okay?" I asked. She slowly turned her head toward me and nodded."It just feels like I'm leaving them," she said, and I knew exactly what

Alex POV"That was something," I said, eyebrowS raised. "Wonder how much she heard.""Couldn't be much," Cassius said. "She just walked in." His voice was calm but there was a tension behind it, which made me wonder just how many family storms he’d weathered."Do you think she knows?" Ivy asked."I doubt it," Magnus said, his gaze lingered on Ivy, gentle and knowing. "No one knows she shifted last night. They only know what they saw."I wasn't sure if that was good news or bad, but keeping secrets felt safer, but secrets had a way of turning into knives when you least expected it."Now," Cassius said, "breakfast is ready. Let's go eat before the food gets cold.""Give us a moment," I said. They nodded and left the room, closing the door behind them.Ivy was still sitting on the bed, color fully restored to her cheeks, but I could see the conflict written across her eyes."How are you holding up

  • Between Two Moons: The Scent of a Stranger   Chapter 75: Not Her Pack

Ivy POV"What the hell are both of you doing in my pack?" Nina roared. "And you! Who gave you the right to sleep over without my permission?"Lux was already on her hind legs, claws bared, ready to rip her tongue out. I could feel the urge to fight ripple through me, a low warning growl vibrating at the back of my mind."Calm down," I told Lex. "There's no need—""Let me have her," Lux cut in. "I want her to feel exactly what she made you feel last night." The hunger in her voice was sharp, fiercely protective, if I didn’t keep control, Lux might just shift and ruin Nina’s face."Hello to you too, Nina," Magnus said calmly, rising to his feet. "Is this how you welcome guests?""She is not a guest," Nina snarled. "She made a spectacle out of me and herself last night." Her words hit like thrown stones, each one meant to wound.Magnus nodded, though he didn't back down. He glanced my way, before turning his gaze back to Ni
