Lyra's POV

The moment we stepped outside the restaurant, I felt like I could finally breathe again. The conversation with Amelia had left too many questions in my head, but there was one thing I couldn't shake.

Seraphine had been involved in what happened five years ago, and according to Amelia, she had been trying to find out the truth herself.

Luca opened the passenger door for me, then walked around to the driver's side. Neither of us spoke until he started the car and drove away.

Lyra's POVFor several seconds, nobody moved. The word on Marcus’s screen remained there.I looked at him.“You’re saying the entire trust belongs to Eleanor now?”Marcus nodded slowly. “Yes. The system recognized her as the next protected beneficiary after the transfer conditions were triggered.”Adrian stared at the screen as if it had personally betrayed him.“No.”He stepped toward Marcus but One of the officers immediately blocked him.“You don’t understand,” Adrian said. “That money belongs to the trust.”Marcus shook his head. “That’s the problem. The trust has completed its succession clause.”Theron looked at me.“It was always there.”I turned toward him.“You knew?”“I knew there was a succession clause. I didn’t know when it would activate.”Adrian suddenly laughed.“You fools.”Everyone looked at him.He looked directly at me.“You think putting the fortune in the hands of a child solves anything?”“It takes it out of yours,” I said. His expression hardened.“Your daughter has no

Luca’s POVI stared at my father, unsure if I had heard him well.“You helped him?”Theron opened the folder. Inside were photographs, property records, bank statements, and an old map of Manhattan.“Adrian was already building his network when Solin discovered the transfers. Caroline found out shortly afterward. They both wanted to expose him, but Adrian had people everywhere. He knew how to make problems disappear.”Lyra stood beside me, her arms folded tightly across her chest.“And you worked with him?”“I worked against him,” Theron replied. “But I used him first. I needed him to believe I was willing to help him destroy the people who stood between him and the Rourke fortune.”I looked at the photographs. One showed Theron standing beside Adrian outside a private estate.“Then why did you never stop him?”“Because I couldn’t.”Theron’s answer was blunt.“He had control of several companies and enough information to destroy the Rourke family. I created the trust as insurance. If Ad

Lyra’s POVSolin’s words left the car silent, “Daniel’s brother.”I stared at my father, waiting for him to explain, but he looked as though he was trying to decide how much more of the truth he could survive telling us.Theron broke the silence first.“Start talking, Solin”Solin looked at him. “His name is Adrian Vale.”Marcus immediately opened his laptop again. “I’ll search every corporate record I can find.”“You won’t find him,” Solin said. “That was the point.”I looked at my father. “You knew him?”“Yes.”“How long?”“Since before you were born.”My chest tightened. “And you never told me?”“I was trying to protect you.”I shook my head. “Everyone keeps saying that. Theron said it. Caroline said it. You said it. Somehow, protecting me always means lying to me.”Solin lowered his eyes.Luca reached for my hand, but I didn’t look away from my father.“What did Adrian want?”“The Rourke fortune.”Theron laughed. “Another person.”Solin shook his head. “Not exactly. Adrian believed

Luca’s POVThe second explosion shook the building before we reached the stairs.Cassian stumbled, and I caught him before he fell. His hands were still tied, so I pulled him forward while Marcus ran ahead to find another exit.Lyra stayed close beside me, and Theron was already moving down the stairs with the speed of someone who knew exactly where he was going.“How much time?” I shouted.Marcus looked at his phone. “Seven minutes!”“Then stop checking and find us a way out!”“I’d love to!” He yelled out.Another explosion sounded above us and the lights flickered. We reached the ground floor, but the main entrance was blocked by fallen concrete. Smoke was spreading through the lobby, making it difficult to see.Theron pointed toward a side corridor.“Parking garage.”I followed him.Lyra grabbed my arm. “What about Marcus?”“He’s behind us.”We reached the garage and found several abandoned vehicles. Theron went directly to one of them.“You’re kidding,” I said.He opened the driver’

Lyra’s POVThe room went completely dark. For a moment, nobody moved. I could hear Cassian breathing somewhere ahead of us, and then Luca’s hand found mine. He pulled me closer as the red emergency lights came back on.Theron stood several feet away, staring at the speakers.“My mother is dead,” Luca said.Theron didn’t answer. The woman’s voice came again.“You were told that because it was convenient.”A screen on the far wall suddenly lit up and Caroline Rourke appeared. She looked older than the photographs I had seen, but there was no doubt it was her. She had Luca’s eyes and the same features. She sat behind a desk somewhere, wearing a dark suit, completely calm despite the chaos she had created.Luca stared at the screen.“Where are you?”“Somewhere you can’t reach me.”“Why did you take Cassian?”Caroline smiled slightly. “I didn’t take him.”Cassian looked up from his chair. “She’s lying.”Caroline’s expression hardened.“You always were impatient, Cassian.”Luca moved toward his

Luca’s POVThe words Marcus had just blurted stayed in my head as we headed for the car. Someone just accessed the trust.I looked at him through the rearview mirror. “How much?”“Too early to know. The account is moving money through several banks at once.”“Can you stop it?” I eagerly asked.“I’m trying.”I tightened my hands around the steering wheel. The trust had been protected for six years, and now, within minutes of the warehouse attack, someone had gained access to it.Whoever was behind this wasn’t improvising. They had been waiting for the right moment.Lyra sat beside me, watching Marcus work from the passenger seat.“Could Amelia have done it?” she asked.“She’s in custody,” Marcus said. “But someone could be working for her.”“Or someone who doesn’t need her,” I replied.Theron’s voice came from the back seat. “You’re finally starting to understand.”I glanced at him through the mirror. “You knew this would happen?”“I knew the trust would attract people once its existen
