Chapter One

I ran through the forest, a flash of desperate red.
The Big Bad was right on my heels, closing in. 
He was much bigger, and badder, and faster, and stronger than me. We both knew it. 
The fact that he hadn't caught me yet only meant he liked to play with his food. 
Tragically, I was probably no more than a mere midnight snack to him. So much for my happy ending. How horribly banal.
The air in my lungs seemed to have caught fire. I'm sure I was as loud as a wildebeast thundering through the forest, disturbing all the creatures of the night as I went. If you imagine me as a delicate damsel in flowing white gown, flying across the mossy ground, don't. 
Remember the wildebeast instead. 
Finally, I had to pause to catch my breath. Clutching my chest, I braced myself against a tree. I peered behind me into the gloom. I heard and saw nothing but the stir of the night breeze in the trees. 
Then, off in the distance, an unearthly howl. 
I shuddered and almost threw up from exertion. 
Alpha was right, I needed to run more. 
Bastard! And where was he now, when he was needed?
I knew I had to keep going, the same way I knew that I was going to die tonight, no matter what I did. 
I pushed myself off the tree and plunged forward into the darkness. 
I had only taken a few steps when something big and black tackled me from behind, and I went sprawling face-first into the loam.

Chapter Two

It didn't hurt, really, but I'd never been so scared in my life.
I felt his hot breath on my neck, and I whimpered pitifully. 
"Red...no!" I could only wheeze with his ginormous form crushing me into the forest floor. 
I squirmed helplessly beneath his claws, pinning my arms easily behind my back. 
Red chuckled in my ear, then he licked the shell of it, making me flinch. 
Shamefully, my insides turned to liquid and oozed out and down my thighs. I knew all the things Red wanted to do to me. 
If he had his way with me, my holes would never be the same again. 
"Help!" I whispered, and he laughed cruelly once again, shredding my flannel blouse open like fabric scissors gliding through wrapping paper. 
"No one to save you this time, my sweet!" He taunted, as he struggled to hook his long claws into the waistband of my jeans. "And I think you're rather asking for it, the way you keep wandering into my neck of the woods, even though you know it's forbidden!" 
I cried out in protest as his claws knicked my tender skin. 
"Undo your jeans, woman!" He growled. 
"GET. OFF. OF. HER!!!" Alpha's roar was deafening as he charged out of the underbrush at that moment, interrupting my would-be ravaging. 
My trembling hands had just been on their way down to obediently undo my jeans. 
I was as wet as a pond in the rain. 
Red barred long white fangs and leapt off of me to meet my incoming Alpha. 
I groaned to myself as I watched the two giant males in wolf form clash together. A bolt of lightning lit up the jagged treeline behind them, making me wince. 
The two wolves, one red and the other black, tangled together in a churning storm of powerful, muscular limbs, lethal claws, and dagger-like teeth, making just about the worst God-awful racket you've ever heard. 
"Stop! Stop it!" I shrieked, getting up and running towards them. 
But then, just like that, the fight was over. 
Red bolted off with a sharp yelp past me, into the forest. 
I heard his voice in my head as he brushed by. 
'You ain't worth the fight. See you next time you come into my woods, Little Girl.'
I stared after him in shock. Only my Alpha was supposed to be able to speak in my head like that! 
"Misha, Goddammit, what the hell are you doing out here?!" Alpha cursed at me out loud. He had transformed back into a man now, but he was still toweringly tall and hulking with muscle.
Bright eyes glimmered at me out of a shadowed face. 
Before I could answer, he swooped me up and deposited me over his shoulder. In a blink, he had transformed back into a huge black wolf, and I clung to his long fur as he flew like with me the wind back to camp. 
'Better run faster next time, Little Mouse.' Red's voice mocked me in my head, a secret for only me to hear.
