Chapter 4

Author: 1st Oct
"Custom-made? How is it custom-made?"

"Did your parents sew it for you? It's just a few pieces of cloth. How much could it possibly be worth?"

"If you know what's good for you, you'd hurry up and pay Vanessa the two million dollars you owe her first!"

At last, Irene spoke up again, agreeing with the other students, "That's right. Mr. Stuart spent good money to help the school. If you can't afford to pay Ms. Stuart back, you can forget about staying in this school. Once I get the college president to come over, you'll be sent to prison!"

Now that I saw how these people were flaunting their power and numbers to bully me, I knew I couldn't settle this matter alone. I pulled my phone out and called Dad.

It sounded like he was in the middle of a discussion about some contract, so I figured he was still with Mr. Hudson.

"How has your first day been so far, Jules?" Dad asked. "Are your classmates easy to get along with? While I don't want you to start fights with anyone, you don't need to be afraid of trouble either. If anyone tries to push you around, just fight right back."

Dad's words brought out the grievance I felt. My voice choked. "Something happened today, Dad. The dress and handbag you and Mom had custom-made for me got wet because of someone's deliberate act.

"They're also falsely accusing me of things I didn't do and demanding that I compensate them two million dollars. It's not just the money, either. They want me to get on my knees and apologize. Otherwise, they'll report me to the police to have me arrested!"

"What did you say?" Dad was stunned beyond words. Soon, I heard him bellowing to someone else on the other end, "My wife and I have loved and doted on our daughter since she was a baby! How dare someone bully her like that? How dare they tell her to kneel and apologize!"

I also heard Mr. Hudson inquiring about the situation. But before I could say anything else, Gina snatched the phone from me.

"Hey, old man, you'd better get your ass over here with the two million dollars she owes Vanessa. Otherwise, your daughter's not going to be walking off this campus unscathed. We've already called the police. They'll be coming over to arrest her soon!"

There was a brief silence on the other end of the call before Dad spoke again. His tone was calm and seemingly pleasant enough, but there was an underlying layer of imposing pressure to it.

"Two million dollars sounds like too little, young lady. Why don't we make it ten million dollars instead?"

Seeing this, Irene immediately tried to curry favor with Vanessa by declaring, "Since you're offering, we'll take it! I'll have you know that your daughter has behaved extremely poorly. Look at the way she's bullying her fellow students on the very first day of school!

"I'm her faculty advisor, and I'm going to make it clear to you now—I won't stay in this school if she does! We'll see who the college president chooses to keep around. Now hurry up and bring over the money! Stop wasting all our time."

After she finished, she looked at me smugly, but my smile simply widened. I was pretty sure Dad had put the call on speaker mode since I'd heard Mr. Hudson's voice just now.

Well, it seemed as though Irene certainly wouldn't be staying on in this school after all.

Seeing that I could still smile, Vanessa rolled her eyes. "Your dad sure knows how to act tough. Or maybe he's your sugar daddy instead. Will you have to follow him to a hotel to satisfy him once he pays up later?"

Everyone else in the lecture hall laughed and jeered after hearing what Vanessa said. She had no idea that the call hadn't disconnected yet. Dad and Mr. Hudson were both outraged to hear her slander me with such sordid accusations.

At that moment, the sound of police sirens could be heard outside, followed by the sound of armored vehicles and…

"Quick! Look, everyone! Why are there so many Rolls-Royces outside?"

The students rushed to look out the windows, only to see Mr. Hudson disembark from one of the Rolls-Royces.

Unable to contain himself, Calvin roared at Vanessa, "You shut your mouth!" Vanessa was dumbstruck. She'd never seen this side of Calvin before. The previously catty and domineering Vanessa now lowered her head, too afraid to look at Calvin or me.Just as Calvin was about to start speaking again, his phone started ringing."What? Our shares dropped? What did you say? Claude Heritage Group has called off the partnership?"As Calvin started to get agitated, Vanessa began to feel terrified. She tugged on his arm and said, "I know I messed up, Dad."Calvin felt the tug on his sleeve and saw Vanessa, the culprit behind this entire mess, standing right next to him. He gave her yet another hard slap."You useless girl! Ever since you were a kid, I gave you everything you ever wanted, only for you to end up doing something like this. You've ruined me!"Vanessa tearfully wiped away the blood from her lips before looking at me. "I'm sorry, Ms. Claude. Please forgive my father. I'm the on

The more I said, the more hurt I felt. My tears were almost spilling out of my eyes. Dad immediately caught on to the keywords—Mr. Stuart, the man who came to us yesterday."Are you talking about Calvin Stuart of Lumina Corporation?"Once I nodded in confirmation, Dad gave an understanding nod before comforting me, telling me not to worry.Because I was on a video call, Calvin also heard Dad's voice."Ms. Claude," he called out tentatively. "May I know who your father is?"I looked at him and snorted. "Do you really not know who he is, Mr. Stuart?"The fact that I was throwing the question back at him served to confirm his suspicions. He dared not ask me again. He knew that if I were indeed the daughter of the man he was thinking of, he was done for.Calvin could only try to assure himself that there was no way I could be the daughter of the one and only Sullivan Claude. Families like ours would surely have sent their daughters abroad. Why would I be attending a local college?

After speaking to Howard, I went to grab some water from the car. However, just as I opened the car door, I heard a wave of commotion.Feeling puzzled, I heard Vanessa venting her grievances in a hurt voice."Look over there, Dad! That's the woman who's trying to extort money from us. She also ruined the bag you just bought me!"I looked over and saw Calvin studying me with a scrutinizing gaze, so without backing down, I glared right back at him.Calvin snapped his fingers, and one of his subordinates swiftly handed me a debit card."I can tell that you're not someone who tries to cause trouble for no reason, young lady. There are three million dollars in that account. You can have it. All you have to do is get on your knees and apologize to my daughter, and I'll let this matter slide."However, Vanessa angrily tugged on his arm, complaining, "Dad! Why are you giving her money? Didn't you say you'd back me up?"I tracked Calvin's gaze and saw that he was looking at the license p

Seeing this, Gina cast a pleading look at Vanessa. "Vanessa, you're the reason why the bag got wet… You should settle this with Juliette."Vanessa's eyes widened in shock, scowling as she stared at Gina. Glancing at my bag, she snapped, "How should we know whether your bag is real or fake? Are we supposed to just take your word? In that case, I can also say mine is worth 30 million dollars!"Besides, so what if it's really worth over 20 million dollars? Once my dad shows up, he'll help me!"As soon as she said that, the crowd switched sides again."That's true. Vanessa's father is the richest man in Weslington. He can easily afford that kind of money.""I even heard her father has some connections with the criminal underworld. Even if Juliette's family is rich, what can they do if they don't have any real power or influence?""I even saw Mr. Hudson chatting with Vanessa's father the other day. Mr. Hudson will probably leave after reprimanding Ms. Rhodes. Perhaps it was Mr. Stuart

Irene's keen eyes picked out Mr. Hudson right away. She dashed down the building and rushed up to Mr. Hudson and the other school administrators who'd come with him."What brings you here, Mr. Hudson?" she asked with a smile. "I see that you've brought quite a few people with you. Are you conducting an inspection of some sort?"I'd also hurried toward them, but as I stood there puzzled after seeing that Dad wasn't with them, Irene immediately pushed me aside."Don't tell me you've come to plead with Mr. Hudson for mercy. Well, I'll tell you right now that it won't work!" she snapped at me."Mr. Hudson, this is the brat who has been bullying her classmates on her very first day on campus! She is truly an unruly student, and she even ruined her classmate's outfit, which is worth two million dollars! Due to this, I've—"But before she could finish, Mr. Hudson walked over to me and said, "You've suffered, Juliette."When the others in the lecture hall saw that Mr. Hudson ignored Iren
