7. I know you were somewhere else

"A few days ago, I discovered your father's lifeless body in the morgue. It seems like he was attacked by some wild animal."

Sara couldn't believe it. "Wait, are you saying he was killed by an animal?"

"So, you didn't even know that your 'dad' met a miserable end! Or maybe you had something to do with it?" Kevin Johnson asked with a smirk.

"What are you trying to say?"

"Why was his body found among the unidentified corpses?"

"That man wasn't my father.”

"So, he got what he deserved. Now, spill the beans. What's the truth?"

Sara glared at him, her body still shaking.

"I was just a little kid. I don't remember anything. All I recall is that I had some kind of accident while going back to the orphanage. They took me to the hospital, and when I woke up, that man told me he was my dad. He had kidnapped me from the hospital, intending to sell me. But then he changed his mind and kept me around as a servant. I only found out when..."

"Your husband revealed the truth to you," Kevin interrupted.

Sara nodded slowly.

“Let me show you something!”

He placed an envelope on the table and leaned back on the couch, gazing at the woman's attractive face.

"You want to say that Yohan killed my father!" she asked.

"You probably don't know your husband. He instills fear. Even the underworld is afraid to cross him and even supports him."

"You're accusing my husband of having connections with the underworld!"

"I'm not making accusations. I'm telling you that the man you married is dangerous. When you see the pictures in this envelope, you won't be able to sleep for months."

"Whose pictures are these?"

"These are pictures of all the people your husband brutally killed."

"He is not a murderer."

"You can ask his assistant. Nolan was with him all the time, like a shadow."

Sara Owen took the envelope from the table. As she looked at the first picture of the dead body, fear gripped her, and she let out a loud scream. The photo slipped from her hands, and she started shaking uncontrollably.

Kevin Johnson smirked, "Are you scared?"

Taking the pictures back, Kevin Johnson put them back in the envelope and set it aside.

"Have you ever wondered what punishment he gave to those who harmed you?"

Sara Owen stared at him, feeling dazed.

"They all met a very cruel fate. He found them one by one and killed them mercilessly.”

Sara Owen broke into a sweat.

"The underworld respects Ricky so much that he killed two of their members, and they didn't even react. Now you can see how capable your husband is!"

"Why are you telling me all this?"

"Because I want to help you find Ricky."

"I can't trust you."

Kevin Johnson gazed into her face for a moment, his intense eyes conveying a different message to Sara Owen.

"What are you looking at?" she asked.

"Do you know? Your eyes remind me of someone dear to me."

Sara Owen swallowed, noticing a spark of emotion in his eyes.

Kevin Johnson turned away while lighting a cigarette.

"I'm not as bad as you think I am.”

Sara Owen kept staring at his back for a long time. When she didn't move, Kevin Johnson blew smoke into the air.

“I have some personal reasons behind my intention to kill Ricky. But it doesn't mean I'll taint you with the fire of my revenge," Kevin Johnson said, and Sara Owen lowered her eyes, unable to find the right words to respond.

"What did my husband do to you that made you want to kill him?" she asked in a soft voice. Kevin Johnson smirked as he flicked cigarette ash.

"What did he do to me? He took away two precious reasons for me to live."

"You mentioned they were personal reasons. I won't ask about those reasons. But from what I know of Yohan, he never intentionally causes harm to anyone. You..."

"What do you think? Do you believe I know Ricky less than you do?"

When Sara Owen heard Kevin Johnson refer to Yohan Dixon as 'Ricky,' a name reserved for only a few close people to Yohan, her heart ached. It showed that Kevin Johnson shared a close bond with Yohan Dixon.

Yohan Dixon had always been a mysterious person, keeping his past hidden. He disliked discussing himself. He never revealed anything about himself. As a result, Sara Owen knew very little about his background, only bits and pieces she had heard from others.

Thoughts of Yohan Dixon brought tears to Sara Owen's eyes, and Kevin Johnson kindly offered her a tissue to wipe them away.

“Wipe your tears.”

Sara Owen held the tissue and lowered her head.

“I don't hate him as much as you love him.”

He sighed and stared at her seriously.

"You should've known better than to marry a powerful guy like him. He's got no friends, only enemies. I guess these tears were written in your fate when you said 'I do'.”

"I'm determined to find him, no matter what."

Kevin Johnson nodded in agreement, saying, "I've got your back. Let's find him together."

Sara Owen grabbed her purse, expressing her gratitude with a thankful smile.

"Thank you so much."

As Sara Owen left the hotel room, Kevin Johnson's eyes turned red, and he stared at the door with a heavy heart. He tried to hide his emotions by forcing a fake smile and bursting into laughter.

However, the tears welling up in his eyes revealed his true feelings.

One hour later…

Sara Owen walked into the living room. She knew she was about to get grilled by the elders and Neel Dixon, who were all waiting for her.

Neel, lounging on the couch, gave her an annoyed look as she entered.

"Where the hell were you?" he snapped.

Natalie quickly stood up, sensing the tension in the air.

"Hey, don't be rude. She's probably starving. Let's get some food in her belly."

As soon as Natalie spoke, the housekeeper hurried off to the kitchen. Sara Owen walked up to the couch with a pleasant smile.

"Auntie!" she greeted Natalie, who beamed brightly and held out her hand.

"How you doin', girl?" Natalie asked, enveloping Sara in a warm hug. Sara tried to push down her sadness and held back her tears as she hugged her.

Natalie patted her on the back and gestured for her to sit down beside her.

"You look worn out. You need to slow down and take care of yourself and that baby of yours. After you eat, just hit the sack."

"I'm good, Auntie," Sara replied with a smile, then turned to Bruno Dixon.

"What's up, Uncle? How you doin'?"

Bruno flashed a big grin.

"I'm good, girl. We're all good. Don't stress yourself over your aunt."

Neel Dixon scowled and plopped himself down beside Sara.

"Come on, spill it. Where'd you go?"

Sara avoided eye contact as she muttered, "I had a business meeting."

"Don't give me that crap. I know you were somewhere else," Neel retorted.
