Chapter 1 - The Pain

•••

It was a bright Saturday morning, Mr. Leo Adams had married Mrs. Zoe Nelson, and she birthed a beautiful baby girl with brown sparkling eyes named Olima Adams. But after Olima's birth, Mrs. Zoe had complications.

Mrs. Zoe cried as she wanted to give her husband more children, but he assured her that his love for her wouldn't change.

Two years later, Mr. Leo spoke to his wife about his intention of marrying a second wife who would birth him more children—and most especially a son who would inherit all his properties and bear his name. He preferred this instead of going out to adopt a son, as Olima was a girl.

Mrs. Zoe got emotional and afraid of another woman coming into her home and turning her husband's heart against her. She spoke to her best friend, named Gina Edwards, to accept and marry her husband.

Mrs. Zoe and Gina used to be best friends in the past. They had attended the same high school and lived on the island where the billionaire families lived. They were still friends even after Mrs. Zoe had married.

Mrs. Zoe did not know that Gina secretly admired her husband. She proposed to Gina to accept and marry her husband, Mr. Leo.

Gina wasted no time and accepted the marriage. She moved into the white mansion to live with them.

But as Gina arrived at the home, she changed and started quarreling with Mrs. Zoe.

Gina told Mrs. Zoe to leave the master's bedroom so that she and Mr. Leo could use it, since Mrs. Zoe could not birth another child for Mr. Leo. But Mr. Leo was shocked at Mrs. Gina's change in attitude. She quarreled with Mrs. Zoe and even called Mrs. Zoe a witch for refusing to exit the master's bedroom.

Mr. Leo got annoyed and threatened to divorce Mrs. Gina the following day. But Mrs. Gina calmed down and switched back to the good friend that she was to Mrs. Zoe. She begged Mrs. Zoe to plead with their husband not to divorce her.

But Mr. Leo told Mrs. Gina, "How dare you come into my house today and quarrelled with your best friend, Zoe? I regret marrying you, Gina. Olima will inherit all my properties tomorrow—even though she gets married to a man and changes her surname to her husband's surname, she will always be my daughter. So get ready to leave my house tomorrow, as our marriage is over!"

Mrs. Gina begged Mrs. Zoe to plead with their husband not to divorce her. Mrs. Zoe sighed, as she was the one who had begged Mrs. Gina to accept and marry her husband.

Mrs. Zoe pleaded with her husband on Gina's behalf, and Mr. Leo allowed Mrs. Gina to stay in the mansion with them—but in a separate bedroom.

Mrs. Gina hated Mrs. Zoe from that day forward. She avoided speaking with Mrs. Zoe and felt that probably Mrs. Zoe and their husband had both conspired to marry her and bring her into the mansion to show her how loving of a couple they were.

•••

One day, Mrs. Gina went into Mrs. Zoe's room. She pleaded with Mrs. Zoe to allow their husband to spend a night with her, since that was why Mr. Leo had married her.

Mrs. Zoe waited for Mr. Leo to arrive home that night. She spoke to him about spending his night with Gina in her bedroom to see if Gina would birth him a son, as that was the reason why he had married Gina.

Mr. Leo refused, as he was avoiding Gina and didn't want to have anything to do with Mrs. Gina since he regretted marrying her. But after Mrs. Zoe sent him away, Mr. Leo had no other option than to spend his night in Gina's bedroom, and he made love to Gina.

•••

A month later, Mrs. Gina was still jealous, and she continued hating Mrs. Zoe. She saw that Mr. Leo loved Mrs. Zoe much more than her. She had thought that Mr. Leo would love only her and ditch Mrs. Zoe for her inability to birth him more children.

But Mr. Leo rather ditched Mrs. Gina. He refused to eat Gina's food and avoided Gina too.

Mrs. Gina quarreled with Mrs. Zoe again, which made Mr. Leo annoyed. He brought a divorce paper home.

Mr. Leo ordered Mrs. Gina to sign the divorce paper and leave his house, but Mrs. Gina refused. She told her husband, "I'm pregnant."

"What!" Mr. Leo couldn't send Mrs. Gina away with his child growing in her womb. He allowed Mrs. Gina to stay in his mansion with them, but on one condition: Gina would start living in the boys' quarters apartment and away from the white mansion, and Mrs. Gina would not quarrel with Mrs. Zoe again.

Mrs. Gina accepted, as she had no other option and didn't want to leave the house.

Eight months later, Mrs. Gina birthed a baby girl named Mia Adams. But Mr. Leo did not come to her again to see if they could still birth more children—and most importantly, a son.

14 years later, Mrs. Gina's hatred for Mr. Leo and Mrs. Zoe grew worse. It was only once in her 14 years of marriage that Mr. Leo had touched her and made love to her, as he claimed that he regretted marrying her.

Mrs. Gina knew that she couldn't leave Mr. Leo's house to go out and remarry. Their townspeople already mocked her for accepting to marry her best friend's husband, and her parents hadn't supported her marrying Mr. Leo at first.

But Mrs. Gina had thought that Mr. Leo would love her. Instead, he didn't love her and rather avoided her.

Mrs. Gina knew that if she went out and got pregnant to see if she could birth a son for Mr. Leo, he would know that the son wasn't his baby. He only accepted Mia to live in the main mansion with them whenever Mia wanted simply because Mia was his biological daughter—and Olima also wanted a younger sister to play with.

Mrs. Gina's heart turned cold. She contacted a truck driver who rammed into Mr. Leo and his wife's car, as she knew that they were going to Lemon-hill High School for Olima and Mia's graduation ceremony. Olima was graduating from college, while Mia was going into a senior class.

Mrs. Gina later confirmed from the driver about his successful job, and she killed the truck driver to hide her secret for life.

Three months after the burial ceremony ended, Mrs. Gina first moved back into the main mansion that her late husband and his admirable wife had sent her away from. She sacked the two housemaids and turned Olima into her servant, withdrawing Olima from her tutorial class.

The family members who had been silent started visiting the mansion to know who would take over the late Mr. Leo's wealth and oil company. But Mrs. Gina was a brutal woman. She arrested her in-laws and accused them of being the ones who killed her late husband and his admirable wife.

The arrested in-laws had to bail themselves out, and they signed an undertaking note not to disturb Mrs. Gina and her family again.

Mrs. Gina later contacted Mr. Leo's lawyer to know about his will, as she remembered that Mr. Leo had told her that Olima would inherit all his properties.

Mrs. Gina could've killed Olima, but she didn't want her only daughter to be alone in the big house without a sister. So Mrs. Gina decided not to kill Olima. Instead, she turned Olima into her lifetime maid, knowing that no one would come to Olima's rescue.

When the lawyer arrived, he told Mrs. Gina, "I'm sorry, madam. But my late client Mr. Leo's will cannot be changed. The will about the company states that the oil company should be given to Olima Adams, but when she turns 24 years old."

Mrs. Gina got annoyed and sent the lawyer away. She thought of how she would change the will to become her own and her daughter's property alone.
