The Clarke utilized more than a hundred employees accommodating them in the staff living quarters within the estate that occupies nearly hundred acres. The individuals residing under the Clarke estate lived comfortably and they had specific regulations which needed to be adhered while dwelling with the Clarke's. To work for the Clarke's was to follow the same early-morning routine of odd jobs, the same dull dietary regimen, and the same weekly self-improvement clinics. There were unwritten rules regarding eye contact and everything had to be executed in an orderly manner. There were even regulations concerning the discussion of the rules. Only a few survived over one year; others were the ones who were serious in their works.
This morning, though, the well maintained composure of the Clarke's was broken as the whole staff was hiding in the bushes or large pillars to see the heart touching spectacle as the Clarke's only child knelt outside the mansion for the whole night.
Emily Clarke, only surviving child and long-announced heiress of all her father's property sank to her knees in the open, ignoring the bite that pierced through her white silk stockings into her bones. She was not designed for kneeling; her mother had instructed her to sit back as stiff as an icicle, chin held like a compass pointing to the family's ultimate glory. But now she knelt, the rocks nipping at her skin through the fragile material, a red line already forming on her left shin. Her hands extended to her fathers who had walked right at that time towards her but was standing further away from her. He did not glance down at his daughter, but over the garden at the staff who were hiding behind every possible thing available in the property.
The heavy wooden doors had been opened early in the morning for the staff to start working but now they were grouped in the background behind the French windows and the whole attendants of the Clarke home waited in anticipation for what was about to come. The doorman, the housekeeper and a group of gardeners with caps in their hands, faces as white as mashed potatoes in the sunlight. Each spectator silently understood that to be observed was taboo but they couldn't help but feel sad for their mistress. The entire estate was holding its collective breath.
Desperation cracked in Emily's voice when she spoke to her father who was looking at her sternly . Her voice was not pleading but something more of a firm resolve. It seemed she was entirely a different person, not the one who had committed the codes of law to memory in her father's library, who had gone to bed with books by some great men under her pillow. Her father's face, normally expressionless, flashed for an instant with something akin to helplessness.
The servants stood by, frozen, as she leaned her forehead to the floor and Emily was doing it continuously. It disturbed the butler more than any mischief he had seen his mistress get into after knowing her from her birth and the old housemaid, Mrs. Evans, began to cry, though she could not have explained why.
Emily was still on her knees, the flesh at points of bone showing brightly raw where fabric and skin had rubbed away against the marble. Her damp hair stuck to her face. She wasn't crying but her eyes were wide with anticipation.
Her father, a man whose voice never rose much above polite boardroom and political dinner parties, finally broke his silence. His initial words poured out with a calm voice but then echoed throughout the courtyard as he came to realize that his daughter was not going to give up that easily. He knew where her stubbornness came from and could only sigh helplessly.
"Emily." He called her name with great difficulty as if trying to pour out his innermost thoughts but not being able to control his emotions. "Are you attempting to defy your father?" His voice was shaking not with anger, but with tiredness and something deeper. "You wish to marry a man who lives in the shadows. You wish to go with him into that lie. Is this what you truly desire to sacrifice everything for a life that is no life?"
He glanced at his wife, who had pulled back from the fight and now placed a hand over her mouth, hiding not tears but the danger of them. They had lost their friends and family. But they had never prepared themselves for the loss of a child who would opt to vanish herself, to have her own name reduced to nothing for the convenience of a cause her parents could not believe in. Emily's mother tried to move forward, but her knees gave away it was as if she was frozen at the spot and she couldn't think rationally. She remembered how she had always taken care of her daughter whenever she was hurt but when she saw her being stubborn with the whole matter it broke her heart.
She'd believed, then, that motherhood was a matter of leading a child into the world and doing whatever was best for them. She’d never considered that her own daughter might be the one to teach her how to endure the pain of a stubborn will. “Is this about him?” her father asked. “Or is this about you defying us?"
Emily glared at the ground, water collecting in puddles at her feet turning rosy where blood had started to trickle through the knees of her pajamas. She wasn't fighting the rain or the cold. She wasn't fighting her parents, either. She was merely refusing to give in to them as she had already made her choice and she didn't feel any pain but only determination.
I was eating the porridge brought by hooligans, who were pointing a gun at me and making me eat. I was not scared but felt disgusted at the way they were behaving. I was wondering how long will it take for Hudson to track me. I wanted to delay whatever they were planning, so I cooperated with them and was eating my dinner without any appetite.“You should listen to us or we will kill your brother as well as your lover.” One of them spoke very rudely. I just glared at him. “It’s a pity that Ale has his eyes on you or I would have kept you for myself, after all, you are Emily Clarke’s daughter and it would be an honour to possess your beautiful body. And it would be so much fun as you won’t even object.” The other one mocked me. He then touched my face and I flinched and tried to dodge away. “You are too feisty, no wonder Ale is all over you, just like your mother. Anyways such a pity, you will be his slave from now on and right under your lover’s eyes but he will not be able to do a
They were all seated around Scarlett was busy reading the emails, which was sent by Callie and Hudson, Jayden and Kay were listening to her. Every email she read made them more and more nervous as it explained each and every situation Emily Clarke had gone through during the last days of her life. Jayden eyes had turned red. It was eight in the evening and still they were unable to find clues but they knew the suspected people so they had already started to track them. The main characters were Jordan Brooke , Henry Adams, Joey Gilbert and Ray Reynolds.Hudson was busy reading along with Jayden and his cell phone started ringing, he saw that it was from Logan, so he picked it up immediately. “Mr. Brown where are you?” Hudson asked quickly and. The Red light in the operation theatre was turned off and the doctor came out and looked at the people waiting anxiously. Steffanie got up from her seat and looked came forward towards the doctor. “How is Wanda, doctor?” The doctor shook his hand and spoke. “She is stable, now. The good thing is she had some reaction before blacking out. So, we think she will awake soon. But I am warning you not to pressurize her or she might go back to sleep again. She needs a lot of rest and less stress.” Steffanie grabbed his hand and thanked him and the doctor just smiled and patted her back and went ahead towards his chamber.Hudson came and took her in his arms. Trying to comfort her.“She will be fine aunt Steff, come and sit down.” He made her sit on the chair and sighed with relief. Now that Wanda was out of danger and she might regain her consciousness might, it was a good sign as they would definitely come to know about the killer from her as she had seen him for sure or the killer would
We walked around the dim-lit grounds hiding around the bushes and waited for the car to arrive. Rob was hiding just outside the gate and keeping a close watch and he had texted me that no one had arrived yet. After waiting for nearly an hour three cars drove inside the estate and we saw that the guard was smiling at them as if they were his boss. The car drove towards the golf course and the guard did not stop him. I was seething with anger. Even dared to park my car outside. Who were they? I wondered and we started walking slowly after them. Making sure our shadows were not seen. Finally, the car stopped outside the old building and four men came out of the car. They walked behind the car and opened the boot and each of them carried big bags and went inside the building. There were only four guards according to Rob and I had seen all four of them sitting near the gate. How could I have been so careless about the estate? It was my lack of attention that something illegal was happeni
I took a deep breath and told her. “After my grandfather's death, my dad was too busy expanding his business and he stopped paying attention to it and so it was left just like that, and don’t worry I won’t burn it down. I am just planning to build a small park and would most likely just clear out the old pine trees and keep the new ones. I am very fond of these trees and wouldn’t want to destroy them.” “Oh, it's an excellent idea, Emily. You are doing so much for the community. I am amazed at how generous you and your family are.” Stella said proudly. “It's not about generosity Stella, it's about love for each other, and along these years, I have learned from my ancestors that the more you give, the more you get. And the hospital is a requirement for the needy. The old age home will be a blessing for the old people who don’t have anywhere to go. I hope my children will also learn to appreciate what they have in the future and do something for society.” I said feeling very nostalgic.
It was a very sunny day today and I had driven to the estate with Callie as she was getting bored at home and I was sure if I take her around the golf course. She will be very happy. I had invited my soul sister, Stella to come and join us as I knew even her son Hudson would enjoy it. It's rather boring living in that lakeside residence and her husband was out of town for some business meeting, so I decided to have a small picnic.I told my housekeeper to prepare some lunch for five of us as Scott had told me he would be joining us there. We drove to the estate which was in the heart of the city. And I was really happy thinking that I had taken a good decision to build the hospital there as it would be located in the central area and quite reachable for everyone. As we pulled near the gate the gatekeeper opened the gate and smiled at me. I acknowledged him. And drove inside, Rob has been working here for many years and so I knew him well. Many caretakers cam
