HAZEL
"I don't get it. If we're talking about the same criminal then why not just put the suspect behind the bars?" I almost screamed in frustration.
No body said anything.
Right.
I took my jacket and stormed out. What the fuck is wrong with them? Just because the suspect is related to the country's biggest billionaire, we can't let him go.
Damn rich people. I fucking hate them.
"Hey princess, calm down." I heard the familiar voice. I snapped my head and found Justin walking out with two cups of coffee in his hand.
I took it from him and sipped on the coffee. "Don't call me that."
"Why? Aren't you princess?" He grinned.
I rolled my eyes. Jerk.
"You know, you need to calm down. Although you're our team caption, we just can't afford to lose our job, do we? When it comes to money and power, we can't just do anything even if we're detectives in the crime branch." He sighed.
"That's the point. I'm not doing just anything. He's the fucking suspect for killing three people, how can we let him go?" I pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration.
"We don't have any solid evidence yet, Hazel. Let's work on it a little more." He added, patting my shoulder.
I nodded.
I looked at Justin who was now staring at the clear sky. I know him from a very long time. We went to the same high school. And God, it's been almost ten years since we graduated high school. If someone would've told me that we'd become best friends, I would've laughed at their poor imagination. I mean I was the most popular girl of our school and he was the most popular boy, football's team caption. We were always the desired couple and everyone thought that one day we'd end up in relationship and we did but as best friends. This stupid joint civil services because of me. He had no idea about his future and when I told him that it's my dream to became a detective, he smiled, asking me to teach him how to clear the civil services exam. We went to the different college in the same city and after that we used to study together for whole night.
"You know, you should be a model instead of cop, you're so handsome that it hurts my eyes." I told him.
He rolled his eyes. "Stop with the sass. And let's to go the club tonight, it's been a while."
I crinkled my nose. "Dude practically every second girl throws herself on you, I'm not going to be your bodyguard."
That's the truth. He's indeed charming. And a hot cop, well who doesn't want this?
"Please, princess." He whined.
Wow. Here we go again.
"Fuck off."
"I heard from somewhere that our suspect would be in the party too." He whistled.
I looked at him in surprise. "Dude, I freaking love you." I grinned.
"Man, after wearing the police uniform for every day, I feel so exposed wearing this tight little dress." I groaned as we walked inside the club.
He snickered. "Shut up, we're here on a mission, stop complaining."
I clicked my tongue. "Lucky for you to say who wears denim and shirt."
We went to the bar and ordered a light drink and when I looked around, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. Every fucking woman in the room was already darting her eyes on Justin.
"I don't like when you get all the attention." I murmured.
"Says the one who used to be most popular in high school." He retorted.
"Man, that time I was pretty. I didn't age like a fine wine unlike some people."
He laughed, sipping on his drink and looking around.
"If the suspect doesn't get here then I'm going to hook up with any guy from this club. I need some entertainment in my life." I groaned.
"What about your boyfriend, whatever his name was?"
I gave him flat look. "We broke up last week."
"This was your fourth breakup in last three months, right?" He laughed.
I pressed my lips shut. Asshole.
"Oh, fuck. Look at the guy in black hoodie, he has that tattoo on his wrist."
I snapped my head and found a figure walking towards the washroom.
"Let's go."
We both walked to the washroom behind him. And as if he noticed us, he walked straight to the bathroom and locked the door.
"Are you okay, babe? I told you not to drink too much." Justin said.
I rolled my eyes. Right. We've to act.
"I'm so sorry, I feel like puking." I replied.
After few minutes of our act, the door unlocks and he finally walks out. Justin grabs him and put handcuffs around his wrist. "You are under arret for illegal possession of drugs." He tells him as Justin took out the packet of white powder from that man's pocket.
I smirked. Justin's observation skills are on point.
"Also, you're the suspect for murders that recently took place." I added.
The man had a face mask and hoodie. So, we weren't able to see his face but the tattoo on his wrist said everything.
We took him to the police station and put him in the detention room. Everybody else in the station looked at us in confusion. I slipped out of my heels and tied my hair in a pony. Okay. Let's do this.
"Remove your mask." I said once I seated in front of him.
He didn't respond.
So, I looked at Justin and gestured him to do the honour.
He nodded and in no minute, removed that man's face mask and the hoodie's cap covering his head and when he did so, our jaw dropped to the floor.
"You're a girl?" I asked, not believing my eyes.
"Lend me your phone, I need to call someone." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Name." I asked.
"Ava Barrette." She replied in a heartbeat.
"Age."
"Twenty-one."
"Why did you kill them?" I asked, now getting on the straight point.
"I didn't."
"Call whoever you want. Let me see how you get out of here." I passed her my phone and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Dude, this is so fucked up. Her tattoo matches with the one we have on photograph." Justin whispered in my ear.
After she called someone, I took the phone from her when she finished calling someone.
Me and Justin walked out of the detention room and he sighed. "Let's check everything once again."
I nodded and opened the case file. The tattoo was indeed same and since we've been trailing him, I mean her, from so long, how could we be this wrong?
"Look at the details, the hoodie's same too." I spoke.
Justin let out a frustrated breath. "I don't know but one thing I'm sure about is that we're fucked."
"What?"
He gestured me towards the door. I looked up and saw tens of men in black suit lining either side of the police station. All the higher up officials from the headquarter came to me and Justin, looking at us in anger.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?" Chief of police gritted his teeth.
"We got call from the ministry of justice. We're screwed and that's all because of you." Another higher officer yelled in a low whisper.
My eyes shifted to the men in black suit who were most probably bodyguards.
I rolled my eyes and waited for the richest man to arrive and grace us with his presence. Note my sarcasm.
And then came a man in navy blue Armani suit as his bodyguards with their guns became even more attentive.
I tilted my head and when I caught the glimpse of his face, the floor beneath me almost slipped.
H-How could this be possible? Am I dreaming? The billionaire Atlas barrette is the Atlas Barrette whom I knew?
"We're extremely sorry Mr. Barrette." Chief apologized.
"Atlas." The girl rushed to him, wrapping her arms around him. He brushed her hair.
"Can I know why my sister is the suspect of murder?" He asked.
She's, his sister?
"We're sorry. There's a little misunderstanding." Chief spoke.
I stared at Atlas Barrette and all of sudden anger shoot through my pulses. I didn't think twice before I went to him and punched straight across his face.
"What the-?" He stopped in middle when he saw me. He froze at his place, his eyes flickering with many emotions.
His bodyguards pointed their gun at me all at once and all the officers in the station looked at me in shock.
"Asshole." I spat, clenching my fist.
"So, you're the heir of Barrette group, huh?" I laughed, my jaw ticking.
He didn't say anything. Just kept on staring at me.
I pull out the gun under my dress and pointed straight at him. His bodyguards were about to come in front of him when he gestured them through his hand to stop.
"You know what, Mr. Atlas Barrette. I can happily spend my lifetime locked up behind the bars after killing you." I said, my voice full of venom.
All of sudden, Justin stalked to him and punched him even harder than I did. His lips bruised and blood started oozing out. "Motherfucker." Justin spat, throwing another punch at him.
I grabbed Justin by his shoulder and shook my head. "Don't. He doesn't even deserve our anger." Justin nodded, taking a step back from him.
I held his hand and was about to walk out of the station when I turned back. "Let it be our last help to you, we'll stop this fucking case. Just get the fuck out of our sight." I said, calmly. "Also, your sister's possessing marijuana, don't you dare to say that we arrested her without any reason." I added.
HAZEL "Are you okay?" I asked Justin, passing him the cigarette after inhaling it."That fucker was lying all along." He chuckled."At least he's alive and safe." I muttered under my breath, taking the cigarette back from him."I know.""Let's not talk about him, shall we?" I passed him a weak smile to which he nodded."I'm going back to the club; I need a fucking good sex." He sighed."Count me in." I smirked. As we reached the club, both me and Justin went on your separate ways. But cheers to my bad luck, I didn't find any man who's seems worth spending my night with and when I saw Justin, that bastard was freaking surrounded by women.I tiled my head.I went to him and grabbed his wrist. "Sweetheart, you're randomly flirting with other women when your girlfriend is having a hard time." I faked a frown. He gave me cringe look but walked with me to the bar."This is not fair dude. It's not my fault that you can't find a guy." He whined."Instead of sex, let's drink after all we both
HAZELAs we reached his house, my jaw literally hangs open. You got to be shitting me. The house is so fucking big and gorgeous.I rolled down the sleeves of my uniform and waited patiently at the gate when Justin showed his ID to the guards. We were granted permission to enter inside and that's when my eyes flicker in awe. The interior was so classy and rich. I've never seen something so marvellous like this.Snap out, Hazel.I shook my head and were led by a man in black suit to the study room. He excused himself and went out of the room once we entered. We sat on the couch and looked at each other. Atlas Barrette was yet not here.I took out my phone and started scrolling through it. There was nothing much to see, just random messages in my Instagram DM. I rolled my eyes. I hate creepy flirt texts. Blocking them, I looked at my follower list which was mainly of my high school batchmates and few from college. There's hardly anyone from the work place because I love posting random pi
HAZEL He didn't say anything. He just took steps towards me till we were only breath apart. My heart started hammering against my chest when his strong cologne hit my nose. I tilted my head and he indeed seems different than before. Ten years did their work on him. His fine chopped hair, sharp jawline, clean subtle, green eyes, perfect lips, broad chest, six feet tall, Armani suit, Rolex watch, crisp white shirt, tattoo on his forearm- they're all new and different. He wasn't like this before. The man stood in front of me isn't the Atlas whom I knew, he's the billionaire about whom I know nothing. He looks fine, not just fine, he looks gorgeous."Hazel""Let's be professional and forget our past. I'm your security head and you're my employer, let's not cross the line, shall we?" I said, taking a step back from him."You know I can't." He bit on his lips and looked everywhere but at me."You can, Mr. Barrette. It's been ten fucking years, we're not the same anymore. Hell, I'd rather k
HAZEL"Hot sex? I'm going to puke, Hazel." Justin clenched his stomach once we were alone in our room at Atlas house.I waved my hand to dismiss him and jumped on the bed. Damn, it is soft and comfortable."Are we really going to pretend this?" He asks."Yep.""Why, Hazel?"I exhaled a sigh. "He was freaking going to shoot himself. I asked him to stay away and he said he can't. I hate him, Justin, I do but I would never wish him dead."He shook his head. "Has he lost his mind?""I don't know. Don't care.""Okay then, I'd help you and that bastard too. I don't want him dead either." He snorted.I went to washroom to take a shower and since I haven't bought my stuffs yet, so I borrowed Justin's t-shirt to wear.Damping my wet hair with towel, I found him asleep. I smiled at him. He's the only constant person in my life.Stealing his headphone, I plunged it into my ears and blasted some random songs. Walking out of the room, I went to kitchen and searched something in the fridge to eat.
HAZEL "I need to sleep." I whispered to Justin who ignored me. Resting my head over his shoulder, I pressed my eyes shut. "Your shoulder is so comfortable, man." I added, half asleep."Good morning." A voice snapped me out of my sleep and I quickly get up from the couch along with Justin to greet Atlas."I need to go on a foreign trip for five days. Would you two accompany me?" Atlas asked."As if we have any other choice, do we?" I snorted. "We'll go." Justin said, nudging me. "I'd like to apologise on behalf of my sister, Justin." He said to him. Justin just gave him a curt nod. I borrowed T-shirt from Justin and put on my cop's joggers. I still haven't gotten any chance to bring my clothes and other stuffs. And then there was Justin, in olive joggers and black t-shirt, he looked fine. Why can't I be as good looking as him? It's such a shame. I sulked, looking at him. He knew exactly what I was thinking and gave me a smirk. "Don't be jealous, princess." "Piss off."We were es
HAZEL Then he put few paper bags on the bed and smiled. I looked inside the bag and found sanitary pads, chocolates, Chinese takeout, pack of Advil and chamomile tea, truffle pastry, cotton shorts and cotton tank top, nude bra and panty, lavender oil, hot water bag, scented candles and a bag full of snacks. I looked at him in surprise. "When did you get all these?""When you were asleep.""Right." I let out a laugh to cover up my embarrassment. He did all these for me? "How did you know that I'm about to have my periods?" A shallow blush crept up to his neck. "You're always sleepy when you're about to have your periods. Also, I saw you clenching your stomach plus it's thirteen, you always used to get your periods around this time of the month."My jaw dropped in disbelief and then my eyes shifted to all the items that he bought. I crave Chinese and chocolates. I need Advil and hot water bag. I often prefer light cotton clothes and warm shower with scented candles. He remembered al
HAZEL What the fuck is wrong with me? How can I have such filthy thoughts? Hormones. Yes, I might be horny because of bloody period hormones. Once I'm done with my periods, I'm going to have sex with the first person I'll see in club. Yes, I'll do that.He finished massaging my belly and thankfully the cramps were now at ease but not my hormones. He lay down next to me and resumed the series on TV. As the time passes by, I became little engrossed in the show. After an hour or so, through my periphery I found him with his eyes closed. I propped on my elbow and turned to him. He might be asleep. Taking a moment to study his face, I couldn't help but smile. He grew up really well. And when my eyes fell on his lips, I couldn't help but wonder that do they still taste the same? Or better? I leaned my face a little closer to him and that's when he opened his eyes to look at me. I tried to pull myself away in a jolt but my hands slipped and I landed on his chest with our face merely bre
HAZEL"You got to be kidding me." Justin threw back his head in frustration."I don't know how it happened, it just happened. I was really horny and if he didn't stop then I would've definitely had sex with him." "TMI." "Come on, what's the big deal if I had sex with him? It's just sex." I explained. He breathed out. "You don't know anything, Hazel. Sometimes you're so dumb that I feel stupid to have friend like you.""Best friend." I grinned."Tell me one thing honestly. Have you ever had any romantic feeling for Atlas?" "No." I replied.Come to think of it, I haven't seen Atlas romantically. Sure, we had our moments in the past but I never felt that kind of feeling. I liked him but not romantically. It was something different. Something that I never felt for anybody else. "Look, just don't get involve with him, alright?""It isn't like we're really dating." I rolled my eyes."There are two things that I want to make clear. First don't go around my back fucking him because for hi
