Louisa:

As I drove, the GPS leading me further and further away from familiar roads, I glanced in the rearview mirror. Alex was fast asleep, his head lolled to one side. I smiled wryly, remembering how he'd always been able to fall asleep anywhere.

But as the minutes ticked by, I realized I was lost. Oh shit.

The roads seemed to twist and turn endlessly, and I had no phone to check our location. Panic began to rise in my chest. What now.

I glanced at Alex again, tempted to grab his phone and check the GPS. But something held me back. I didn't want to disturb him, and besides, I was determined to prove I could navigate this on my own.

Just as I was starting to feel desperate, I heard a rustling in the backseat. Alex sat up, rubbing his eyes.

"Hey," he said, his voice groggy. "How's it going?"

I forced a smile, trying to play it cool. "Oh, great. Just...enjoying the scenic route."

Alex raised an eyebrow. "Scenic route?"
