“Ash?” Jordan mumbled looking at the woman before him in both surprise and disbelief. Jordan took steps forward, as if trying to make sense of the odds of meeting her there.
“Dad, do you know her? Her name is Miss Ashley not Ash,” Shane asked looking between them. Ashley stood there with her legs and mind urging her to run while her heart protested, beating fast. As she noticed him take steps forward her mind flipped making her take long steps backwards. “No, Shane, I don't know your dad, but it's nice to finally meet him, but I've got to go now, see you later,” Ashley blurred, noticing the hurt that crossed Jordan's eyes but quickly disappeared. The thought that she managed to hurt him even in the slightest made her feel her heart swell in pride. Jordan watched his once love hastily leaving as if trying to run away from him. He couldn't stop the hurt feeling that filled his heart. She had changed so much, and she was nowhere near Ashley from years ago who couldn't defend herself. “Dad? Dad?” Jordan heard his son's voice calling pulling him out from his thoughts. Shifting his focus to his son he smiled lightly, “let's go champ, your mommy must be tired of waiting for us,” Jordan said, throwing one last glance to the direction Ashley disappeared. Meanwhile, the drive back to the house was filled with Lindsey’s chatter as she filled Ashley in on all the gist she missed. Ashley zoned out “It's going to be blazing Ash, so what have you planned on their special day?” Lindsey asked, looking at her friend who had been silent throughout the drive except for a smile here and there. Lindsey shrugged her shoulders, tapping Ashley's arm, “Ash? What's going on with you?” Ashley turned her head swiftly when she had her name being called, “yes, Lin, I'm going later.” Lindsey scoffed before chuckling at her friend's absentmindedness. Ashley looked at her, smiling when she realized what she just did, and chuckled along with Lindsey. Before she could say anything, Danton's voice came from the driver's seat interrupting them. “Mi' ladies we're here,” he said jokingly, pulling into the compound. “We’re having this conversation later,” Lindsey pointed out, looking at her in worry. Danton’s phone rang, making him huff as he looked over the back seat, “impeccable timing, I'm on, at the hospital, don't miss me too much.” Lindsey laughed out loud followed by Ashley chuckle, “dream on, chauffeur.” Meanwhile in a hotel's presidential suite, silence fell as Jordan sat at the desk going through his laptop. Meanwhile, on the other hand, sat by the make table in their bedroom redecorating her face. “Shane? It's time for your meal sweetie,” Maggy, his nanny, called smiling lightly at him. It didn't take much to notice how lonely the boy was. Always quiet and keeping to himself. “Maggy, can I not take dinner today?” Shane asked, looking at his nanny with sad eyes. “Why baby?” Maggy inquired looking at him in concern, she had only been with him for less than two weeks, but she could notice Shane was mostly a sad kid. “Just because, can I not?” the boy insisted, his little face, void of any jest. Maggy smiled sweetly at him, “baby you know you have to eat to grow big, right?” He nodded, his eyes teary as he looked at her attentively. “You want to be like your daddy, right? Then you have to eat, and grow this big” Maggy said, stretching her arms wide trying to convince him as he nodded followed by a slight smile. “Promise me you'll put my seat next to daddy at the dinner table?” Shane asked, putting out his little finger. “I promise baby,” she answered, smiling back at him. The little boy threw his hands around his nanny in excitement. “What's happening here! Get your filthy hands off my son!” Maya’s angry voice came, making the two pull apart in horror. “Ma'am I was just talking to…” “I know what you filthy girls do when you get a job from a wealthy man! But you have the wrong house sl*t!” Maya cursed shamelessly, not bothered by her son's presence in the room. Shane coiled up in the corner putting his hands on his ears as always instructed by his mother. “But Ma'am I didn't…” Commotion from downstairs drew his attention, making Jordan split towards the source of the noise. He could already guess it was an issue with the house girl. Ever since Elizabeth, Shane's first nanny, quit, no house girl was ever good enough for Shane according to Maya. “What's happening here?” Jordan asked as he walked into the room where Maya was shouting all over. “Babe, she has to leave right now! She's not the right nanny for my son, I found her feeding him lies about you, can you imagine!” Maya squealed, pointing a finger towards Maggy. “Maggy, could you take Shane to his room please,” Jordan instructed, seeing how scared his son was. “Right away Sir, let's go Shane” Maggy said leaving the room as she held Shane's hand. “No, let him go, you filthy…” “Maya!” Jordan's warning tone boomed in the room making the room fall silent as if everything and everyone felt his fury. He had always noticed his wife acting up but he always blamed it on her illness, but after what he had just witnessed he was not sure anymore. As his son disappeared upstairs, Jordan turned to look at his wife, “Maya, what's happening to the gentle girl I knew? Why would you curse in front of your son?” Jordan asked, trying to reason with her, but her sinister scoff made him see the pointlessness of the matter. “It's you to talk after you just humiliated Mr. in front of that b**ch!” Maya retorted angrily, looking at him in scorn. Jordan squeezed the bridge of his nose with his fingers in frustration as he realized how selfish Maya was. It was always about her, and he let her have it her way, but he couldn't allow her to treat Shane poorly. “You know what? Maggy stays! I will not have my son traumatized by the fact that you don't like her nannies for some reason!” Jordan said, a tone of finality in his voice. “But Jordan…” “I've said what I had to say Maya, she stays no negotiations,” Jordan said, his face void of any emotions. “ Okay then, she stays, I leave!” Maya retorted childishly as she gave him a daring look. “She leaves then, and I'll have Elizabeth come back, your choice,” Jordan concluded, he couldn't let her leave, her health deteriorated after the birth of their son, and he felt responsible for her. Maya froze at the mention of Elizabeth making Jordan furrow his brows in curiosity. “No, have it your way, Maggy stays but if she poisons your son's head don't say I didn't warn you!” Maya said angrily, clearly portraying her displeasure on the turn of events. “I thought you liked Elizabeth, I mean she stayed with him from birth to two years, she must have been special, why not have her back?” Jordan asked, looking at her in confusion. “You…you already said that b…Maggy is good for Shane so she stays, now if you'll excuse me,” Maya replied all tensed up as she hurriedly left the room, leaving Jordan with a string of thoughts.Luke felt frustrated as Jordan couldn't pick his phone trying it on more time not realizing it was calling from a dustbin container. “Come on, man pick up,” Luke muttered, fidgeting with his fingers. After realizing there was response at all. He quickly dialed another number, “hello, Ashley I have to tell you something.” Ashley shrugged her shoulders putting the phone on speaker for Lindsey to hear. “What is it Luke, we're listening,” Ashley said as they both listened attentively. “Look, I've been trying to call Jordan, but he's not picking up, and…” Luke said in panic, but Ashley couldn't hide back her words as she interrupted him. “Funny because he called me just ten minutes ago,” Ashley said, her voice full of scorn and mockery. “Ashley you're not listening, Jordan is in danger, the woman who was selling him the villa is an imposter,” Luke said as he paused as if letting the information sink in. “Villa? What Villa?” Ashley asked, feeling confused as to why Jordan would be
The sirens died down, the atmosphere clearing off the danger. Ashley released a breath she didn't even know she held as she heard the shooter had escaped, but the police were in pursuit. Luke walked towards her, his body looking tense from the sudden attack. The guests out in the parking lot were lucky to have not been shot. Inside the hotel, Lindsey and the other guests held their hearts in their hands, silently praying for safety. “We have to talk,” Luke said, helping Ashley up from behind a car where she had taken cover. Ashley nodded with her panicked and aching heart at a loss. As the environment was announced safe, the guests finally let out sighs of relief. Lindsey ran out in panic to check on her husband and her best friend. Hamilton followed, his horrified face telling it all. As they all embraced and confirmed each other's safety, Hamilton shrugged his shoulders. “Are the children okay?” Ashley asked, looking at her dad in fear. “Yeah, actually I just got a message t
Lindsey walked up to Ashley, who was standing waiting for her with a smile on her face. “Shady business, huh? That was your cover-up, really?” Lindsey mocked as she went to her, her question making them both laugh. “I know, you know I'm not good at hiding things,” Ashley said, hugging her tightly. “Congratulations sweetheart, it seems we have a wedding to plan,” Ashley said excitedly, but the worry in her voice was unmistakable. “Thanks sweetie,” Lindsey asked, but she couldn't miss the slight smile on Ashley's face as if something were disturbing her. “What is it, Ash?” Lindsey asked, holding her arms. “It's nothing, I just miss Jordan, it's been two weeks, and he still hasn't mentioned anything about coming back from the trip,” Ashley pointed out, her eyes portraying her worry. “I'm sure he'll come back, I heard Luke say something about him getting tied down by something important,” Lindsey let out, making Ashley feel her heart slightly hurt. ‘Why would he tell Luke and not
The two friends paved outside the bathroom door feeling anxious. The sound of the timer went off making them stand at attention as if they were policemen on duty. “That's it, go in and check Lin,” Ashley said, nagging her hand forward. “No, I think you should check Ashley,” Lindsey refused blatantly, looking at her friend in worry. “Okay, how about we go in together?” Ashley suggested making them walk into the bathroom slowly. Ashley let her eyes fall on the two kits laying on the sink. Seeing two lines on it, she gasped loudly. Lindsey, on the other hand, looked away from the sink feeling scared and tense. “Lin look!” Ashley exclaimed excitedly but found her looking the other way. Shrugging her shoulders she soothed Lin's back, “sweetheart, you have to turn and see, what's the matter?” Ashley asked, holding her in concern. “Well I don't know if I'm ready to be disappointed Ash, I really want this to be it,” Lindsey said, her eyes swelling up in tears. “Only one way to find ou
Ashley rushed down the stairs quickly as she planned for the big day ahead. After tossing and turning for the better part of the night she came up with something. Lindsey at first thought it was crazy and rushed, but Ashley wanted to at least make something memorable before they left. Her eyes caught Jordan, who was surprisingly quiet except for the kiss he placed on her lips before he left the room. “Hey, love,” she greeted, noticing he was donned in a going out outfit. “Heey, you're awake early after the long night?” Jordan pointed out as he kissed her on the lips passionately. “Yeah, so are you. Heading out?” Ashley asked, looking at him from head to toe. Jordan laughed nervously, brushing it off bluntly, “No, your dad wants me to accompany him to town to run some errands.” “Ooh that's good,” Ashley replied, not wishing to talk too much. Jordan looked at her, his face gloomy as if something were disturbing him. He felt like he always felt on this very day every year: Alone.
At the dinner table, Ashley and Jordan kept stealing glances at each other. The sexual tension between them, undeniable. “Mommy, you promised we would have a movie night before we left,” Brandon said, looking at his mom with pouty lips. “Yeah mom, you promised,” Shane chipped in clasping his hands together. Ashley bit her lips, considering the big plans they had for tonight. “Sweetheart I don't think tonight's a good time for that, how about we do it after we get back to the city?” Ashley suggested hoping the kids would accept. “No, you promised, and you always tell us it's bad to break promises,” Brenda protested, making Lindsey nudge Ashley's arm playfully. Looking over to Jordan, Ashley was stunned to see him pretending to mind his own business as he chewed on his steak. Receiving no reinforcement on the table, Ashley chuckled, “okay, you can have the movie night, a promise is a promise.” She pointed out, biting her lip as she swore to make Jordan suffer for leaving her in t
