Adam’s eyes landed on mine. Confusion washed over his face. Clearly, I was the last person he expected to see standing in this office.

Adam‘s POVIrritated, I left the office building. I’d really been hoping to acquire a business collaboration with the Wentworth Group. My own company was on the brink of financial ruin. I had to find a way out. These were the thoughts swimming through my head as I walked towards my car.All of sudden, two men lunged out of an alleyway as I passed. They slammed a black hood over my head and hauled me into the alley. I tried to call out, but the hood muffled my cries.Sharp kicks to my stomach. Something slammed into the side of my face. Dropping to my knees, I felt one last knee to ribs. Panciked, confused, and riddled with pain, I didn’t understand what was happening.“Consider this your warning, Adam,” a male voice snarled at me. Clutching my stomach, I bit back the urge to vomit. “Stay away from the Wentworth Group. If we ever see you again, you’ll get a lot more than a beating.”The sharp taste of blood was metallic in my mouth. Footsteps echoed down the alleyway as I tore the hood
Melody Perspective“I think it’s time you left.” Julian set down his espresso cup and crossed his arms over his chest.“I…um…pardon?” Adam said, furrowing his brows. He was clearly affronted by Julian’s abrupt change in tone.“You heard me,” Julian repeated, his lips pressed together. “Leave.”A flicker of a smile twitched at my lips. Adam looked positively crestfallen. Adam wasn&
Melody’s POVAdam’s eyes landed on mine. Confusion washed over his face. Clearly, I was the last person he expected to see standing in this office.“Melody?” he sneered.“How did you get in here?” I asked. To say I was puzzled by Adam’s sudden appearance was an understatement. Julian stood in silence, watching us both with curious eyes.
Melody’s POVMy office was stunning. It was a corner office, with a gleaming cherry wood desk set against a floor to ceiling window that offered sweeping views of the city. To one side of the room was a lounge area, complete with a sofa, two oversized armchairs, and a coffee table. It also featured a coffee bar with my own personal expresso maker and mini fridge.“Will this do, Miss Wentworth?” Anthony asked, pushing his black rimmed glasses up onto the bridge of his nose. His tone was semi-sarcastic; he knew full well that the office was perfect.
Melody’s POVI strode into the room like I owned the world. Because it sort of felt like I did. The board member’s eyes tracked me as I crossed the room and took my place at the head of the table where Eleanor was standing. The mahogany table gleamed under the board room lights. An untouched plate of assorted donuts sat in the center of the table, and each board member had a cup of coffee placed in front of them.“Melody,” Eleanor said with a coy smile. “You’re right on time.”
Melody’s POVKeal and I left the banquet sometime after midnight. Back at the estate, I kicked off my shoes while I stifled a yawn. I was looking forward to sinking into my bed for a good night’s sleep. In the foyer, the maids gathered our coats. Keal had been very quiet on the car ride home. I figured he was just tired, since it had been a long, eventful night. However, when I went to bid him good night, he grabbed my wrist.“Wait,” he said. His tie was loosened and his shirt sleeves were rolled up at the cuff. He fixed me with a har
Melody's POVI was arranging a vase of fresh cut roses in the living room when I heard Keal come home.Humming to myself, I placed the vase on the coffee table. The colorful roses, picked straight from the hedges outside, filled the air with their sweet scent.I was still getting used to living at
Melody’s POVJulian tagged along behind me as I marched down the long corridor to the board room at the end. People looked up from their desks through the glass of their cubicles as I passed. The doors to the board room at the end of the hall were closed. Pausing outside the door briefly, I heard
Melody’s POVThe building was forty stories of black glass stacked against the sky. The doors cycled open and closed and people moved through without breaking stride. I joined the steady stream of people and once inside, I found myself in an opulent lobby. The lobby was gleaming white marble with s
Melody’s POVThe next morning, Keal and I arrived at the courthouse, our necessary documents in hand. We walked up the cement stairs, the morning air cool and crisp. “This shouldn’t take long,” Keal said to me as he opened the doors. The line at the clerk’s window was only four people deep. So we
