“I think it’s time you left.” Julian set down his espresso cup and crossed his arms over his chest.

Adam‘s POVIrritated, I left the office building. I’d really been hoping to acquire a business collaboration with the Wentworth Group. My own company was on the brink of financial ruin. I had to find a way out. These were the thoughts swimming through my head as I walked towards my car.All of sudden, two men lunged out of an alleyway as I passed. They slammed a black hood over my head and hauled me into the alley. I tried to call out, but the hood muffled my cries.Sharp kicks to my stomach. Something slammed into the side of my face. Dropping to my knees, I felt one last knee to ribs. Panciked, confused, and riddled with pain, I didn’t understand what was happening.“Consider this your warning, Adam,” a male voice snarled at me. Clutching my stomach, I bit back the urge to vomit. “Stay away from the Wentworth Group. If we ever see you again, you’ll get a lot more than a beating.”The sharp taste of blood was metallic in my mouth. Footsteps echoed down the alleyway as I tore the hood
Melody Perspective“I think it’s time you left.” Julian set down his espresso cup and crossed his arms over his chest.“I…um…pardon?” Adam said, furrowing his brows. He was clearly affronted by Julian’s abrupt change in tone.“You heard me,” Julian repeated, his lips pressed together. “Leave.”A flicker of a smile twitched at my lips. Adam looked positively crestfallen. Adam wasn&
Melody’s POVAdam’s eyes landed on mine. Confusion washed over his face. Clearly, I was the last person he expected to see standing in this office.“Melody?” he sneered.“How did you get in here?” I asked. To say I was puzzled by Adam’s sudden appearance was an understatement. Julian stood in silence, watching us both with curious eyes.
Melody’s POVMy office was stunning. It was a corner office, with a gleaming cherry wood desk set against a floor to ceiling window that offered sweeping views of the city. To one side of the room was a lounge area, complete with a sofa, two oversized armchairs, and a coffee table. It also featured a coffee bar with my own personal expresso maker and mini fridge.“Will this do, Miss Wentworth?” Anthony asked, pushing his black rimmed glasses up onto the bridge of his nose. His tone was semi-sarcastic; he knew full well that the office was perfect.
Melody’s POVI strode into the room like I owned the world. Because it sort of felt like I did. The board member’s eyes tracked me as I crossed the room and took my place at the head of the table where Eleanor was standing. The mahogany table gleamed under the board room lights. An untouched plate of assorted donuts sat in the center of the table, and each board member had a cup of coffee placed in front of them.“Melody,” Eleanor said with a coy smile. “You’re right on time.”
Melody’s POVKeal and I left the banquet sometime after midnight. Back at the estate, I kicked off my shoes while I stifled a yawn. I was looking forward to sinking into my bed for a good night’s sleep. In the foyer, the maids gathered our coats. Keal had been very quiet on the car ride home. I figured he was just tired, since it had been a long, eventful night. However, when I went to bid him good night, he grabbed my wrist.“Wait,” he said. His tie was loosened and his shirt sleeves were rolled up at the cuff. He fixed me with a har
Melody’s POVLater that evening, I sat on the plush bed with a million thread-count sheets, while Keal took a shower. The maid had brought me tea, and I sipped it, hoping it would calm my nerves. It didn’t.This entire trip had been uncomfortable and confusing right from the start. Standing up,
Melody’s POVKill? My mind spun. Dorian smiled wryly. Beside me, Keal’s breath hitched in his throat. So the rumors were true? Keal had actually….killed his girlfriend? No. I didn’t see how that was possible. Keal was tense and guarded. But he wasn’t a murderer.“Don’t listen to him,” Lydia said, h
Melody’s POVFor a moment, the room went silent. I watched as everyone processed what I’d just said. They all shot each other shocked looks. Seraphina was the first to speak.“Married?” she asked, cocking her head to the side. “But I thought…”“You can’t be serious,” Lydia quipped. “You told us you
Melody’s POVThe sleek black car pulled up to the Summer family estate. The estate stood proud and magnificent, reeking of wealth and old money. Green ivy climbed the stone walls and the footprint of the estate spread farther than I could see from the car.I’d thought Keal’s estate was massive, but
