33. DOUBLE STANDARDS.
She never shows much of what she holds inside. All the tears lining her heart like cracks on a wall. Treating everyone she meets with kindness. Her face wearing a smile that fools them all. Deep inside of her lives a story. One of disappointment and regret. The words line her veins with all her pain. Of all the dreams that have slipped away through time. She wears a locket around her neck. It holds pictures of a life she would love to live. She never opens it, but she keeps it there.
Like a wish that she never whispers, even so, herself, so many dreams, so many desires. And yet so much fear, hiding deep behind her smile. A locket filled with hopes of life, filled with love. A dream to open it and share it with the world.

The Balkan was such an amazing hotel that Amelia wouldn't have been surprised to see a stay there offered as a prize on a TV game show. It was tucked away in a crescent-shaped cove with miniature villas spread out along the beach and a low-rise reception area almost lost in a miniature jungle of exotic shrubs and flowers. There was a doughnut-shaped swimming pool with a bar in the inner ring and stools poking up just above the level of the water. The whole place seemed to be asleep.
