Beth curled up lazily on her bed. She was supposed to be teaching Raine this afternoon, but she called Mam Runs and said she had the flu and fever. Even though she came to work the morning shift... She isn't really sick, she is just allergic...allergic to go to that house...with the possibility of meeting...that guy.
She doesn't want to see Logan again, no, no! Beth closed her eyes tightly, trying to shake off the terrible image of the car in the rain the previous few days. Aarggghhh, that playboy widower! What does he want? Beth felt humiliated, tarnished, abused!
Suddenly her cell phone rings: it is Logan's house number. There's no way Logan could have called, right?
"Hello?" Beth greeted in a hoarse voice.
"Beth, please get well soon," said Raine's soft voice, making Beth feels guilty.
"Thank you, Raine," Beth answered in her normal voice.
"You're welcome, Beth. Oh yes, next week, take me to my mother's house, okay?" asked Raine, her voice full of hope. A small and cute voice...which turned out to be holding a lot of bitterness in life.
Beth was stunned. Oh, how is this... what should she do?
"Miss Beth?" Ask the girl again. Her voice sounded very cute and funny.
Beth cleared her throat. "Okay, okay, honey, I will definitely take you to meet your mother."
###
Beth deliberately asked for a shift change. She was supposed to come in during the day and only come home at night... She changed shifts with her co-workers, so she could accompany Raine to her mother's place.
She entered the house quietly, trying not to make a sound and not be noticed. She went straight to Raine's room, Beth felt herself like a thief! Yet she came to help the child.
She managed to meet Raine and took her to the place that Raine had been waiting for, her biological mother's house.
But it turns out that Beth made a big mistake by taking Raine to her mother's house. The woman--Raine's mother--opened the door of the house wearing only a thin white shirt and shorts, while behind her, a man wearing only shorts, hugged the woman's waist possessively, making Beth and Raine shocked.
Raine's mother was no less shocked because she found her daughter's visit suddenly.
Raine's mother hastily pushed the tall man away, then said quietly to Raine, "W-why didn't you tell me you wanted to come, honey?" The woman's eyes looked at Beth angrily, over Raine's downcast head.
Instead of being afraid, Beth looked disdainfully at Raine's mother.
"Th-here, this is my friend, honey, his name is Hans," Raine's mother said nervously, pointing to the man standing nearby, hoping her daughter would believe it.
Raine backed away, taking cover behind Beth's body. The little body shook violently as it gripped Beth's body from under her jeans.
"Raine wants to go home," Raine said quietly. It's like she is holding back tears.
"Raine...." called Raine's mother.
"Raine wants to go home!" Raine half screamed between anger, disappointment, and fear.
Beth swallowed hard, then hurriedly took Raine away from Raine's mother and the man who seemed to be her mother's lover.
Beth felt sorry for Raine. She should not have obeyed the girl to meet her mother. But she didn't have the heart to refuse. While in the taxi, the little girl kept crying. To her knowledge from Mam Runs, Raine is a tough girl, because she rarely cried. But this time, Beth felt that this was the pinnacle of Raine's sadness. All she could do was stroke Raine's head and back. Trying to make her calmer and stop crying.
When they got home, Beth owed Logan an explanation, because Raine was still crying and just walked into her room without greeting her father who was waiting on the front porch. Logan with a flat face looked straight at Beth.
Okay, the wrath of a man is waiting for her, Beth thought, looking down, not daring to look at Logan's ghastly face.
"Why.. what happened to her?" asked Logan quietly. He seemed to have a hard time holding back his emotions.
Beth cleared her throat. "I'm thirsty... can I have a drink first?" Dodge Beth, buying time.
Logan asked Mam Runs to make her a cold drink.
In the living room, after taking a few sips of drinks, Beth began to tell her story with a pounding heart, afraid that Logan would throw a tantrum. She told him from the beginning about his idea to teach Raine outside the house, to the incident that caused Raine to cry earlier.
"You're being too annoying for doing that," Logan's voice sounded sinister, making Beth's hairs growl.
"I apologize!" This was the umpteenth time Beth apologized to the man who was sitting tensely in front of her.
There was a heavy sigh. "Actually, it's not entirely your fault."
Beth looked up at Logan. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw the man's black eyes staring at her with piercing eyes.
"I should have . . . I was wary. Jenny, Raine's mother, only now that she wants Raine because her old father said he would give Jenny an inheritance if Jenny gave him a granddaughter."
Beth kept her mouth shut. Very heartless! "So you mean... Mrs. Jenny... never wanted Raine?"
Logan nodded curtly. "Jenny and I are both jerks. But I love Raine, so much. In this world, Raine is the only one I love, only she is precious to me." Logan's eyes seemed to pierce Beth's heart, making it throb in pain.
His words seemed to imply that Beth was meaningless, that the kiss in the car meant nothing at all. Beth knew that and understood very well that Logan did like to play with women. But still, her heart was like being sliced by a knife, hurting her.
"I did the same thing Jenny did, but I never brought my date home, because I didn't want to hurt Raine."
Beth's body was shaking with anger. "You'd better stop your bad habits. Don't hurt women again, don't play with women anymore. Because... the law of karma applies. I don't want your daughter to suffer the consequences of your actions."
Logan's brows furrowed together in the middle. "What do you mean by the law of karma?"
"If you hurt a woman's heart, then there will be a man who will hurt your daughter or your sister. Stop being stupid." Beth rose from the soft sofa she was sitting on. "If you want to satisfy your lust, find a good wife and mother for Raine, not just for temporary personal pleasures. Excuse me." Beth turned and walked out of Logan's house, not intending to come back again.
Beth hadn't been teaching Raine for two weeks. The first reason, Beth knew, because of her impudence, Logan would have fired her without a word. Second, this is reinforced by the absence of calls from Mam Runs or Raine. Third, Beth had no intention of returning to Logan's house. She is focused on his work at the outlet and is looking for a new private Math student. She liked Raine, very much, but she didn't like Raine's father. Logan was too cocky, too wild, and . . . too lustful, Beth thought with a shudder. All the things that happened to her…and all the gossip about him flashed through her head. Logan is indeed very well known in the company he works for, as the male player number one. He is a ruthless billionaire, he is known to have some other business...and is known to have his share at the company. He works in technical programming and computer only for his passion. But since she never sees Raine and Logan again, for some reason, Beth felt empty in her li
Raine greeted Beth with a warm hug. Her big black eyes sparkled when she saw Beth, and the smile never left her tiny lips."I'm glad Dad finally allowed me to see you again!!"Beth embraced the warmth and fragrance of Raine's little body. Only then did she realize how much she missed this little girl, a strange thing, considering that this girl was only her private student."Beth . . . sorry that I cried and left you in my room. I've been wanting to apologize to you for a long time." Raine's black eyes stared at Beth, feeling very guilty.Beth stroked her head in a lavender purple headband. "I see, Raine, you don't need to apologize. Now... how are you doing?""I'm fine. I have a father who loves me and is kind to me. That's... that's enough."Beth felt sympathy for Raine. This little girl, really brave to face life. If she were in Raine's position, she wouldn't be as strong as this girl."Oh yes, do you have a boyfriend?" Raine asked
Beth felt herself stupid, and useless. Why she agreed with Logan about the impromptu marriage. She can still work...though the salary is small, if she collected it... it can be quite a lot of money. Agh... why is she so tempted by a lot of money? Today Beth went to work as usual, she had a shift with a new area manager, her name was Shania."Are you Beth?" asked a woman who looks elegant and trendy, she wears a mini dress from a well-known boutique and can be immediately recognized by anyone who sees it, plus a black blazer and extraordinarily high heels. Beth felt that she was a dwarf when she stood parallel to Shania. The new manager."Yes, Ma'am. Nice to meet you, I hope we can work well together." The answer is polite and simple."Hmm... I have something to talk to you about." Shania said wearing her glasses"Yes ma'am." Beth obeyed and followed Shania who was sitting in the waiting chair at their outlet."I have a recommendation for you, actua
Beth walked back to her house in a frenzy, lucky that all the private students in her course were currently on semester break, and that meant studying with her is also off. At least Beth could clear her frantic mind. Along the way, she blamed herself for being too rash in making decisions, why did she have to agree to a request from that annoying Burger! Tomorrow she has to go to the head office to meet the man… 'Ouch.. what should I talk to him then? Do I have to be stubborn and ask Logan to call off the goddamn marriage? Or… aghh…' Beth's daydream was suddenly interrupted by a ringing tone on her cell phone.Beth walked towards the housing where her parents' house was, she had just gotten off the public bus when the call came in."Hello?" She said, looked at the screen on her cellphone, there is no contact name from the foreign number that called her, "Who is this?"“Hmmm, your future husband's number is not saved. Impolite! I'm your
Beth woke up at four in the morning muttering annoyed, she had really had to set her morning alarm this early. Normally she leaves at a convenient hour or half-past seven because usually, meetings at the head office are usually at nine or so, she has plenty of time for the trip there which takes more than two hours. She had to take several types of public transportation, ranging from regular bus and trans city bus. She could take the train line, but she was confused about the transit route…she had to get off at one of the stations and take a train in a different direction, which made her choose the regular bus route.Beth was ready to leave at half-past five in the morning, she left with a fresh face and a light coat of lipstick. She was forced to wear full make-up when she went to the head office because one of the rules for employees who went to the head office was full make-up, appearance was everything for head office employees and she did everything very forcefull
Beth was still sitting at the reception desk until someone picked her up. Based on information from Sherly, there will be a Personnel employee who will pick her up. Sherly told her that the higher-level employee was very busy preparing for a meeting with the General manager later, so it would be a miracle if Logan wanted to see Beth for any reason. Sherly even said... Maybe Beth would be sent home.Beth nodded weakly, she thought...'whatever!'Not long after, a man in a black shirt and pants arrived, he was wearing a navy blue tie with neatly combed hair. The tall and slightly bulky man looked scary because of the smile and look on his face when he saw Beth. Sherly immediately stood up and approached the object of her dream as a fan... She approached her idol, Logan Bruggman. Yup... The man himself came and approached Beth.Logan stood in front of Beth, he wanted to say something but lost quickly to Sherly who immediately greeted him from behind."What ti
"Let me tell you... What it means licking one's own tongue!" He said and walked over to Beth with eyes full of anger that made Beth tremble slightly."Loh. sir! That's a saying... I don't know... it means canceling... That... Licking That's sir... Licking your own spit.. that means... canceling what was promised previously." Beth stammered, she saw the figure of Logan who was already standing right in front of her chair. He turned Beth's chair until her knees touched Logan's standing leg.Logan lowered his face towards Beth. He whispered, or rather threatened. "You will marry me... So you won't renew the contract!"Beth was silent as if frozen. 'What is this man doing? If it wasn't the previous manager who recommended a contract extension... Yes, it means he himself. Why did he offer an extension if I ended up being blackmailed like this!' Beth thought. She stood up and quickly took a few steps back."But... sir. I already agreed to the contract, th
"Oi... the way out is over there!" Jody said as soon as Beth passed through the glass door that could only be opened with the name tag of the head office employee. He was humiliating her, because now in the lobby there are many employees from other divisions gathered. One of the things Beth saw was Rico, the warehouse driver who delivered inventory to her outlet. 'Oh, what a coincidence.'"Thanks," Beth whispered to Jody cynically. She walked quickly towards Rico. Feeling grateful."Oi... oi Rico..." Beth greeted, she purposely stood behind the warehouse driver.Rico turned his head and smiled broadly when what he saw and greeted him turned out to be Beth, one of the employees at the outlet where he was handling inventory."Loo... It's you, Beth. Doing any meeting, huh?" He said."No. Contract matters. You want to deliver the goods?" Beth asked and was answered with a nod by Rico."Can I come with you? Hehe...I wanna go to the outlet.
