Chapter Twenty-Four - Aftermath

Nell lay, dazed and confused, on the couch, a blanket covering her now shivering body.

Liam was on the phone to his Beta.

“I’m taking some personal time. For the rest of the day. Spread the word.” He glanced at her, but she turned her face away, gazing at the deeply embedded buttons. “I may even go out.”

What did it all mean? she wondered.

He rang Henry next, placing Deborah in charge of the nursery.

She should have felt ashamed, yet she didn’t, and that probably explained why she wasn’t ready to face the Alpha yet.

It meant nothing to him, of course. Hadn’t he confessed to ‘helping’ she-wolves in the past. Moving on to a hybrid elf made no difference to him.

What was happening to her? Nell felt like crying and laughing, not to mention hitting something. Her mouth felt too small suddenly, and she reached a finger inside, reassuring herself. No, she hadn’t developed canines yet.

If this was an elf thing, why hadn’t Robin warned her?

“You’re going to take her away from me, aren’t you?”
