LOGINHunting? Oh, fuck! Creepy dude is a vampire! I have to be hallucinating. That cunt waitress spiked my drink…that’s it. I will just go to my hotel room and sleep this off. With swift assurance, he confronted the creature of darkness, transforming fear into fierce defiance just in time to save me from becoming another fleeting memory in this city's web of mysterious night terrors. "You can’t protect her forever, mutt," the creepy guy said before he disappeared.
“Frank, what the fuck!” I yelled as I trembled and tried to walk towards my hotel.
“You won’t believe me if I told you.” As he said that, my knees started to buckle, and my vision began to swim. “Whoa, I got you.” He picked me up as if I were a feather. I felt oddly warm and comforted in the arms of this stranger. “Pineview, which room is yours?”
“Six.” He carried me to the front desk, and the clerk on duty just nodded as if this happened every day. Frank sits me in front of my door as he props me up. I fish out my key and open the door. “I am fine from here,” I say. I take two steps from him and grab for the door to keep me from falling, but what I grab onto is him.
“Sugar, let me help.” That was all he said before my world went black.
I woke up in my hotel room with my head spinning like a top at a carnival. To add to the mystery, I wasn’t even wearing the dress from last night. What on earth happened? I rubbed my face, and when my hand brushed against my neck, I felt a bandage. Great, just what I needed—a souvenir from a night I couldn’t quite remember.
With a Herculean effort, I dragged myself to the bedside table where my phone lay, like a lifeline in this chaotic sea of confusion. I turned on the front-facing camera, and the reflection staring back at me looked like I had just emerged from a battlefield. My hair resembled a bird’s nest after a tornado, my makeup was smeared like a Picasso painting gone wrong, and I was draped in an oversized t-shirt that seemed to swallow me whole. But the real kicker? A pristine white bandage snugly wrapped around my neck.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I pulled back the bandage, gasping at the sight. Two evenly spaced holes stared back at me, like tiny reminders of a night gone awry. I poked them gingerly with my finger; they weren’t deep, but boy, did they throb. I dropped my phone onto the bed beside me, my mind racing to piece together the puzzle of the previous night.
Suddenly, flashes of memory began to surface: the creepy guy with fangs, and then—bam!—Frank swooping in like a knight in shining armor, yanking the guy away from me. Frank saved my life! Who knew my night would end with a dramatic rescue? Now, if only I could remember how it all started…
My phone started buzzing with notifications from Tinder Vibes. I opened the app and Frank’s picture stared back at me with the following messages attached, “Hey, why aren’t you up yet? Come on, get ready. We have to go.”
Just what is he talking about? I typed my reply, “Go where? Why?” I need to figure out why this guy is so invested. We don’t even know each other. Hell, I barely remember anything from last night.
“Go open your door.”
I open my door, and Frank is standing there. He comes in as if he owns the place and looks around. “Why haven’t you packed?”
I go and sit on my bed and wrap the blanket around me. “First, I am not going anywhere. Second, what the fuck happened last night? I want the truth not some sugar-coated bullshit. No fucking riddles either.”
He hands me a cup of coffee before he sits in the chair opposite me. I wait for him to take a drink first before I sniff my cup. ‘It isn’t poisoned. Sugar, I mean no harm. I want you safe.”
“You need to rest, but I can spare a few minutes.” I slide into bed beside him. He lets out a breath as if he had been holding it. He grins. “This is the best minute I have had in a long time. I missed you so fucking much.” His fingers entertwine in mine. For several minutes, neither of us speaks. Frank turns his head to meet my eyes. “Come here.” I hesitate before I snuggle closer as I make sure not to agitate his injuries. He exhales. He wraps his arm around me. His thumb finds my shoulder. He brushes it along my collarbone. I rest my head near his. This feels amazing to just exist. His hand reaches for my cheek, I lean into his touch. I reach for him too. I run my finger through his hair, over his forehead, to his cheekbone, along his jawline, and over his lips. “You’re really here.”“Of course I am. I never left. And I am not going anywhere now, either.”“I was so scared.”“I wasn’t, at least I wasn’t about my love for you.”“I need you, Sugar. I need all of you.” He grips my wai
I am in the kitchen when I hear Frank in my mind. “I can hear you walking around in our kitchen. Sugar?”I grin. “Finally, Sleeping Beauty awakens!”“Yeah, how long was I out?”“Three days.”“Shit, three days! Fuck! I feel like my head is going to explode.”“Frank, you nearly died. Don’t you ever do that again! If you try, I will kill you myself. Do you hear me?”“Yes, Sugar, I hear you. I am sorry for it all. I am sorry for not listening to you. I am sorry for being a jealous idiot. I am sorry for trusting the wrong people. I am sorry for almost losing you.”“I know. You can show me how sorry you are later. Right now, you need to rest. The herbs Cane helped mix are helping, but they need time.”“No, I am getting up. I need to hold you.”“Sit your ass down. Don’t make me have to tie you to the bed!”“Fine, I will sit. But when I am better, you will be the one tied to the bed, not me.”I giggle. “Think what you want, dear alpha.”“You mentioned Cane.”“I did. He helped get you to the r
Jack looks at me. “You…you are the reason.” He walks toward me, but as he does, he shifts. “RUN!” Frank yells.No. I am done running. This is my pack. Frank is my Alpha. Jack is dead. Jack’s wolf lunges for my throat. He is nearly to me when something crashes into his side. Scarlet throws him off balance as she snarls. Jack’s teeth dig into her shoulder. Blood sprays everywhere. She keeps fighting as wolves come to help Jack. She took one of the wolves down, but another bit into her side. “Scarlet!” She falls. Her breath is labored as blood coats the ground. The wolves turn to me. Frank roars, trying to break free. They claw at him, but he keeps fighting to get to me. “Get away from her!” he yells. I watch as what I predicted comes true. His pack turns on him. I snap. The burning rages inside of me. I fall to the ground, and my body begins to contort. My vision goes white, but instead of darkness following, it sharpens. I am a wolf! I am blacker than a moonless night. My eyes glow
“Sugar?”“Who fucking else, Frank. I am here. I am me. I am the Blood Moon Alpha. I am yours, and you are mine.” I hear the Elders snarl behind me and feel one step forward. Fucking cowards. The Elder says, “Step back, girl. This is sacred.”“Girl is the wrong word for me. This isn’t fucking sacred. It isn’t even part of werewolf lore. You fabricated it all to control because you are too weak to ever be an Alpha. You are pathetic. You are scum. Soon you will die as you have, so many do because they refused to accept your stupid fake laws! It is time this pack knows the truth! You drag any who refuse, and if that doesn’t work, you banish them, not before making them into a white wolf.” I seethe. “I know ALL!” I crack my neck. “You want a vision? I have one for you. Your extinction!”Frank mutters, “If I don’t, they’ll kill…” He grits his teeth. “They’ll kill you. She will be Luna, and they will stop.”Jack screams, “Finish this. Finish this ritual.”“Frank, don’t you dare listen to t
He has been drugged. His eyes are glassy as a hand hovers over her, but I notice one is clenched at his side. He’s trying to fight it. He’s trying to keep control. Then one of the Elders lifts a cup to his mouth. There’s something thick and dark inside. More wormwood? Or poison? I look at Cane. “You brought me here knowing this would happen?” I growl. “Did you think it would make me choose you?” I snarl. “I heard Frank say something about what the Elders were planning. I know he doesn’t want this. These fucking poor excuses for wolves need to die!”Cane lets out a breath. “I know better. I can’t force you to do anything. I would and have never tried to manipulate you.” I scan his face as my anger begins to boil over like an unwatched pot. “Honest, I didn’t know it would happen now.”“I call bullshit!”He holds his hands up in surrender. He doesn’t move. “I swear. I overheard that something was happening tonight. But I didn’t know about this.”I shake my head. “You knew something. You
“Sugar?”“Yes, where are you? Frank, talk to me, please.”Oh, my god! Frank answered me! I have to know what is going on. I have to save him as he has saved me. I step off the porch. I close my eyes and try to focus. I don’t want to lose the connection now that I have reestablished it. I know that he sent Eva to find me. But will she? I know that she doesn’t hate me, as I believed her when she visited me at my old home. But what if she can’t?I can’t sit still and wait. I am trying to put my shoes on when Cane appears behind me. “You’re leaving?” he asks tentatively. “I must go back. Frank is in grave danger.” His eyes, once so full of blue flames, now glow a faint silver. He walks toward me. “Don’t try to stop me. I have to do this.”He shakes his head. “I wasn’t going to.” He reaches out his hand before withdrawing it. “I will escort you because it could be perilous.”I want to tell him no, but he would follow anyway, like he has since I got to Darkness Falls. “Fine, let’s go.” He
