Dark Eclipse

One year after the tragedy of Mrs. Eva's murder, the abandoned family fled their burning home. They had moved just a few miles away, feeling they couldn't leave the memories too far, but little Quan was still annoyed. Memories of the killers she slaughtered were still vivid in her mind. Because of that, Mr. Adan then invited his family to move again, this time out of town.

However, the move was only the beginning of another bad thing for Quan again.

It was daytime. Everyone was in their homes, waiting for the total solar eclipse that was about to happen. The Durbysch family was no exception, who were also at their house, gathered in the family room.

“Why don't we just try to take a look?” at that time, Quan had time to ask. “Wouldn't it be amazing if we saw this unusual sight?”

Mr. Adan smiled as he looked at his daughter with a shady gaze. Quan' brothers seemed so focused on the book they were reading in a corner of the room.

“We can't see the eclipse in person, honey,” Mr. Adan told Quan patiently. “Our eyes can be damaged.”

Quan ran to the window to see something, then seconds later returned to her father's side. “Look, our neighbors saw the eclipse too!” Quan whined. “They carry a tub filled with water and wear strange glasses.”

Suddenly Gan approached and sat in one of the other chairs. He put the book he had read on the table. “They just act brave, little sister,” Gan said softly. “Long time ago, someone saw a solar eclipse directly and you know what happened after that?”

Quan shook her head.

“They became blind!” suddenly Evan yelled from behind.

Gan rebuked Evan loudly. He looked back at Quan who looked surprised. “Those people are not blind automatically… well, some are. But the person I mean only got acute eye pain. You could say he could no longer see properly.”

Quan shuddered. “That's terrible. I've been through that too.”

The three adults in the room looked at Quan with unusual shock.

“When did that happen, honey?” Mr. Adan whispered worriedly.

At that moment Quan's body trembled. She almost cried as she whispered, “B-Before I killed them.”

Not having had time to feel the shock again, the sky suddenly darkened. Evan mumbled something about the eclipse that had already started. However, that wasn't the only thing that happened. Their neighbors suddenly shouted at each other. Their screams were choked with unavoidable horror. Mr. Adan ran to the window and he saw something that made his heart stop functioning for a tense second.

Quan suddenly screamed.

The black robed gang had returned.

They turned their heads when they heard Quan's terrified scream. One of them waved and his friends followed him toward the Durbysch house. Mr. Adan shouted in panic to his two sons for them to run away with Quan immediately. However, the door suddenly burst open so hard. The gang in black robes galloped in.

Quan trembled behind Gan's back. There's something different about this gang. She is still trying to remember what she forgot.

“Give us the kid,” one of the robed men opened a voice from under his blue mask.

Quan suddenly realized what made them different. The people who killed their mother; their eyes and masks are white with a blue hue, but this gang… the color of their eyes and masks was only blue.

Or did Quan just see the wrong way?

“What's wrong with my daughter?” Mr. Adan snapped. “I don't even know who these bastards like you are!”

The man chuckled. “You didn't know? Really, Adan? It was a little strange considering you were the husband of Suuvoc's right hand-woman.”

Quan wasn't sure how her father would react, but suddenly chaos ruined the atmosphere. She was pushed backwards until she was slammed against the wall. The girl watched her family against the enemies who were carrying the Stake Sword. Mr. Adan suddenly shouted loudly, black blood pooling on the floor. He fell there, eyes with horror as he stared at Quan.

“Go!” Quan's father called out one last time to his daughter.

Quan roared for her father, but she didn't dare come near. Evan suddenly picked up his younger sister, then he ran away.

“Papa!” Quan screamed.

“Shut up, Quan! Here.”

Evan dropped Quan off at the edge of the forest, then crouched down in front of her. Evan turned his head as several man in black robes came out to chase them.

“Listen me, Quan, listen, don't cry! Just run. Do you understand what I said? Run as far as you can!”

Quan shook her head. “Where am I supposed to go? What about Papa? Then you and—?”

Evan pointed to the end of town. He pressed Quan's shoulder and explained hurriedly, “We'll be fine. You have to run, get out of the city gates! After that, you will find a small hut not far away. Tell the granny that Lor attacked us!”

Quan begged. “Ev—!”

“Run!”

Quan ran as fast as she could. Only a few meters later, the girl suddenly heard a scream of pain. She turned her head.

“Ev!” Quan shrieked sadly. Tears fell down her cheeks.

The little girl almost turned back to Evan, but another man in black robes ran towards her. Quan did the only thing she could do at the time, the girl runs away, again.

The eclipse was over, but Quan's life wasn't. After running while hiding many times, that night she finally met the granny who was chewing betel in front of her little hut. After Quan said the words Evan said earlier, the granny immediately packed up and carried Quan on her back, then ran off into the forest.

Quan doesn't live in strange places or in the forest itself.

Quan returned to the city where her mother had died.
