View MoreOnce upon a time, Sethbe, the son of a spirit god, had an affair with Mathilda, a Light Priestess, which resulted in a child. War was raging between the children of the gods: between those of darkness and those of light. Sethbe and his brothers, Liedte and Zienkhe, were overseers in the darkness. They could not have people know about the child. Mirrhia, a loyal servant of the brothers, took the child and disappeared before anyone realized birth happened.
She made a quick stop to the family temple in the middle of the Egyptian desert, to present the child officially to Ghar, the brothers’ creator, protected by the watchful eyes of the temple guardians. With the baby tucked in her arms, she then left into the night, without a trace.August 8, 1980 Anita picked up Coralis in her arms and climbed up the stairs to take her to bed. In her eyes, Coralis was the best thing that ever happened to her, better than the night she accepted Donny as her husband and mate. She dropped her in her small crib and took a minute to admire her beautiful week-old daughter, then left the room. She had to get ready for the meeting with Lord Meozo. Anita and Donny flew back from Egypt the day before. They wanted to stay there longer, but they couldn’t: it was time to come back home. Anita pregnancy was over, so she would be able to fight if needed. During the day, Anita took care of registering Coralis’ birth to the humans. With a human birth certificate, she was hoping that Coralis would be able to live a normal life, just in case something happens to them. Coralis wasn’t truly her birth name, but she needed everyone to believe it was. Her friend Dorothy was waiting for her in the living room when she got back down to the main floor. “Oh, you’re here already! I didn’t hear you coming in,” she said to her friend. “Of course, you wouldn’t, you were probably fawning over Coralis again when I got in. Note, I don’t blame you, that girl is so cute, I would also have done the same without caring about anything else. Did you ward her room?” “Yes, but just a basic one so Lord Meozo wouldn’t sense her. I don’t want him to know that she’s here.” “He will ask questions and you know it. He knew you were pregnant last time he saw you. If you try to tell him that you lost the baby, he will kill you for lying to him and all the wards protecting Coralis will dissolve the moment you die. Heck, he probably already knows her birth name!” “I will do whatever I can to keep her away from him. It’s bad enough that Donny and I couldn’t stay away, I do not want her involved in our mess.” The women walked to the basement door and went down to join the others. Lord Meozo was there already. Even if he was trapped within a summoning circle, Anita shivered when she saw him and struggled to keep her hands from trembling. She was hoping that she wouldn’t be forced to bring Coralis to him. “Ahhhh Anita, my dear. It’s been a long time! How are you doing? I heard you and Donny couldn’t have produced a sweeter looking baby,” said Lord Meozo. “Hmm I’m good,” Anita said, giving a furtive look to her husband, who was standing across the room right next to the summoning circle. “Exhausted, but good.” She didn’t want to talk to Lord Meozo about her daughter. If he asked questions, she was planning to avoid answering by changing subject and wasn’t above flirting with him. As much as she despised him, he was still their boss and they needed to stay alive. “When am I going to have the pleasure to meet little Corhaaliniakhys?” Anita tried to remain calm and took a deep breath. “We got more pressing matters to address. My daughter is asleep, this is not a place for an infant,” Donny answered before Anita could even think of how to answer the question. Donny did not like hearing his daughter birth name rolling out of Lord Meozo’s mouth. They thought they had been careful. If he knew his daughter birth name, it meant one of two things, and neither were good. Either he managed to extract the information from one of the witnesses who were in Egypt with them when they presented their child to their god, or his connections with high ranked demons were deeper than he thought. He didn’t exclude the possibility that Lord Meozo could also be working for a god. He was deep in thoughts when the meeting started. He wasn’t paying attention to what was being said and abruptly got pulled out of his train of thoughts by the sounds of a commotion coming from the main floor. His mind went to Coralis instantly. He looked at his wife, who was running for the stairs. Before she could reach the landing, a dozen of agents wearing different uniforms erupted in the room, pushing everyone against the wall across the stairs. Their basement meeting room was in chaos. Donny saw Dorothy standing in a corner away from them, staring at Lord Meozo, then realized that he couldn’t dissipate to leave the room: he was trapped in the summoning circle. He didn’t know how the authorities found out about this meeting, but he quickly figured that Dorothy was behind it and was the one trying to keep Lord Meozo in this room. The Canadian Ministry of Mythical Affairs and the European Bureau of Elemental Energy had been working together for years to destroy Lord Meozo and dismantle his operation. They raided a lot of their meetings for the past few months, destroying countless supporters and followers, but they could never catch Lord Meozo. Finally, they were going to end this. It only took them a few minutes to destroy everyone in the room, including Lord Meozo. They were all dead and in ashes, except Dorothy. Before they left, she told them of a baby girl sleeping upstairs. The girl was the Golmars’ daughter: she had to be hidden. Dorothy felt guilty for causing Anita and Donny’s deaths. She tried to spare them from being killed and was convinced she didn’t do enough. She also knew that there was a lot of people who would likely come after her, so she couldn’t take the girl. Going against the couple wishes in case something was to happen to them, she requested that her guardianship to Coralis was dissolved. That night, another gathering of followers had been raided. One of Anita’s brothers was destroyed there, along with his wife. Agents found their 2-month-old daughter Nadilla sleeping in another room. The rest of Anita’s family was also under suspicion and Donny’s family could not be located, so it was decided that Coralis and her cousin Nadilla would be placed in the human system, until they were of age to start elemental school.July 23, 2004“Well, I am certainly glad we decided against going to the Caribbeans for our honeymoon, five witches there just got set on fire by the stake,” said Frank, turning off the television.“Just like I never thought Scotland would make an ideal destination to escape with you for a week. We live in weird times, that’s for sure. I’m hoping we won’t run into people I know, but if we do, so be it,” said Coralis, closing her suitcase.Coralis had heard that isolated tropical islands were popular destinations. As much as she wanted to pass for a normal person, she didn’t want to be stuck in a remote area where she could be found and wouldn’t be able to take Frank to safety if something was to happen. A lot of witches had been burned near popular honeymoon destinations and Frank didn’t want to take the risk either.“You mean running into people who could tell me stories about you?”“You know those with stories to tell. The rest either hold grudges because I didn’t play flyball for t
July 15, 2004 “What I find odd in this, is why Clara didn’t just try to kill you, since you’re on a killed-on-sight list,” said Sebastian, sitting on the desk chair.“If Clara is working for the people who want to weaponize me... maybe she wanted to follow me to find Frank. Last time, it was a capture party. Maybe they were going to take me to a bounty hunter or a government official somewhere and have me executed elsewhere so they could prove it. It’s what makes the most sense, considering the pattern with how other ones on that list have been captured and killed.”“True. Plus, we both know Clara is no match for you, so she wouldn’t do a one-on-one against you.”“Unless they surround me like they did the last time or with Sonylla. Our flyball career may end tomorrow night, but my foes won’t. You know what? If the CMMA is going to have agents at the game tomorrow, I think I will take advantage of it to confront them. If they plan for something big after the game, odds are they’ll hav
June 10, 2004 – 20:20Liam stepped between Frank and Paolo, glancing at the other guard.“You touch him, and I guarantee you that your head will roll before you see the colour of your dungeon wall.”Carlito and Sarah ran toward them.“PAOLO! CHORRACE! BACK DOWN NOW!” said Carlito.“But he’s human,” said Paolo.“Don’t you see they both passed the wards? His mate made our wards. He’s under Alpha Collins’s protection, just like Blue Thunder is,” said Carlito at the two guards before turning his attention to Frank. “Apologies about that. Follow me, I’ll take you to the packhouse.”Liam and Sarah were following them.“I get it, thanks to this senseless witch hunt and supernatural war, we’re all on edge with trust issues.”“For real! My wolves are on edge with trust issues, yeah, but your mate must be even more.”“Elementals definitively have it worse than us. They’re getting killed out there,” said Liam, holding Sarah’s hand.“Blue is coming here to dodge another capture-to-kill party,” sa
June 10, 2004 – 15:00“Blue, are you home now?” said Sonylla over mind-link.“No, I’m at the flyball stadium. I have a game tonight. Why?”Coralis stood in the middle of the flyball field, staring into the middle of nowhere. Their coach was talking, but she wasn’t listening to him. Sebastian gave her an odd look.“S?” said Sebastian, and Coralis nodded.“I’m with Zahir, searching Clara’s apartment. I think Emery’s right, she was a traitor and she wasn’t killed that night. I also think she’s searching for you as we speak.”“Meaning she’s either circling my London flat or the flyball stadium, hopefully. The game schedule is publicly known, so if she is searching for me right now, odds are I’ll have another capture party like I had 8 months ago.”“Can you port your ass back to your apartment after your game?”“No. The only fix portal I have there is between a closet and the rooftop which is intended for my panthers to use when they’re home on full moon and you know how my wards are.”“Yo
May 2, 2004Coralis sat in the backseat of a taxi, leaving the airport. She was on her way to a hotel in downtown London. She had a game in France the day before and Frank was in London to cover a music event. Before heading to Portugal for the next day’s game, she agreed to meet him there and spend the night with him. There were still too many eyes on her, so she didn’t want to take him to her flat, and he booked a hotel room. She met with Maribel in front of the hotel before going in. Frank was already at the event site.“Hey stranger, long time no see!” said Maribel.“I saw you last month,” said Coralis as she opened the hotel door.“Let me rephrase. Long time I haven’t seen you in town. Last time you came to London… well, you know it doesn’t count and I didn’t see you then.”They went to the reception desk and Coralis gave the booking details to the clerk behind the counter.“True, the last few months were hectic, to say the least.”“That’s an understatement,” said Maribel.“Mrs.
April 18, 2004 – 21:00Sonylla was running, glancing once in a while behind her.“What happened in there?” said Coralis through mind-link.“We walked into a trap. Tobly received a tip regarding cursed weapons hidden in a building under construction in Calgary. I was sent there with Clara to investigate. There never were cursed weapons in there,” said Sonylla, sending fireballs behind her.A laser passed through her elbow. Coralis felt it and focused on healing it. Understanding the situation, she sat down on the floor, where she was.“Don’t worry guys, I think I got this,” said Coralis, her eyes still shut.“What’s going on?” said Sebastian.Frank kneeled beside her, worried. He saw the back of her right shoulder blade turning red and black.“Sonylla and Clara in Calgary. Trap. Will tell more in a bit.”Coralis tried to look through Sonylla’s eyes.“We tried to fight them, but more came. They killed Clara on the top floor. I’m trying to get to the exit downstairs, but I’m still on one
