“Three more months until flyball retirement, it’s got to be feeling weird for you,” said Frank, handing Sebastian a beer.

Coralis and Sebastian returned home from Madagascar during the night. Coralis took off in the early afternoon to set up wards around the White Moon pack territory, which was located near Baie-Comeau. Frank wasn’t working that day and Coralis didn’t like him being alone at home until she knew what the Howars were up to, so Sebastian and Stephanie stopped by.

“Weird, yes. I never thought I would ever say that, but quite frankly, I’m looking forward to being done with the season. Don’t get me wrong, I still love playing the sport, but there is too much going on lately. It’s time,” said Sebastian, glancing at Stephanie.

“Don’t lie, darling. You can’t bear that I could be a target too and you want more eyes on me,” said Stephanie.

“Of course, I want more eyes on you, my eyes to be precise. Like I said, it feels weird, but it’s time. I can’t keep s

April 9, 2004 – noon“WHAT?” said Coralis, trying to stay in control.“Where are you at right now?” said Eva.“We’re at Panjik’s, but we were about to leave. He’s working tonight and I was supposed to have a practice this afternoon, but now I want to head your way,” said Coralis, looking at Frank. She wondered what to do next. She didn’t want to drop him home when someone was potentially looking for him.“You can stay with us this afternoon. My mate should be home soon,” said Panjik to Frank, before she could voice her concerns. “If someone is indeed out there searching for you specifically, Blue won’t let you out of her sight until she can assess the threat. However, you going with her isn’t a good idea either.”“I work this evening, but I didn’t have plans for this afternoon, so I could stay here if needed,” said Frank, turning his attention to Coralis. “However, Luv, will they let you skip practice?”“If my mate is in danger, that takes priority,” said Coralis as Emery sent her the

April 9, 2004 – 07:30She couldn’t linger around or she’d risk accidentally bumping into someone trying to avoid something else. She took off as she would when flying with her usual riders. Still feeling Frank holding tight to her, she took a sharp turn upward and stabilized herself once she was above the highest building around them.“You can talk now. How are you feeling?”“Can’t say it’s the greatest feeling in the world. So far, I’m not a huge fan of it… but there is something oddly intimate about it. I think I’m feeling fine because I’m with you, but I don’t know.”“Sebastian is probably a safer rider than me. He’s used to flying with your sister and he’s our goaltender. I know I can fly safe, especially with you, but riding with a passenger and flying as if I was on the field, isn’t the same thing.”“Like I said, I trust you and that’s probably the only reason I feel safe right now.”“If you need a break, let me know. I can either find a tall building to land on if we’re near a

April 9, 2004 – 07:00“Did you hear about what happened in Johannesburg yesterday?” said Frank, taking a sip of coffee. He sat in the living room with a newspaper in his hands. Coralis was getting ready to meet Sonylla before heading to the flyball field.“No, what happened there?” said Coralis, coming out of their bedroom.“A group of women believed to be witches have been burned down at the stake,” said Frank, looking at her.“I have a game next week in Johannesburg, I’ll probably be hearing all about it, but I should warn the team. Does the article mention where exactly it happened and who were they? I mean, I should try to find out if they were dark witches or innocent humans.”“Can I talk you out of setting foot anywhere in South Africa?”Coralis sat next to him, her back against the armrest, her left knee folded in front of her and her body facing him.“I wish you could,” said Coralis, her hands on herself. “They are killing witches here too, nowhere is safe at the moment. All I

March 27, 2004 – 18:45While the staff collected plates from the tables, Mark stood up and gathered everyone’s attention.“Ladies and Gentlemen, what a memorable day it’s been so far. I wanted to be the one with the most memorable speech today, I’m the best man after all, but I don’t think I can do one better than the bride. Coralis’s vows and Frank’s reaction to it is what we will remember from this day. She has raised the bar pretty high for all of us in what we should seek in a life partner. Frank, I’m jealous of you, now.”Giggles could be heard from the people in attendance.“I can’t say I’m surprised that Frank would be the first one among our group of friends to get married, but I’m hearing the opposite from Coralis’s side,” continued Mark, looking at Victoria and Maribel who were still laughing. “Although technically, we could argue that his sister beat him to the punch. Frank is not the first one after all.”“I’m the better sibling, that’s why,” said Stephanie.“Debatable,” co

March 27, 2004 – 17:15“SISTER!” said Sebastian as he made his way to Coralis, once he got to the reception room, and hugged her. “You know, I felt important when HM Finnas attended my wedding. However, not only is he attending yours too, but so are HF Ellya and HE Yalor with his wife, and I don’t think it’s out of flyball appreciation. There must be something we’re missing here. You don’t even work for the CMMA. Not officially at least.”“That’s what I tried to tell Kief and Petaan when on our way to the church. M brain isn’t functioning today, I know that, but I don’t get it either. You aren’t mad at me for it, right?”“No, not at all. If anything, I understand it better than you are. This goes way beyond flyball, and I think it's time, indeed, for us to retire.”“I can’t see myself quitting the sport, but priorities have shifted,” said Coralis, looking at the people entering the reception room. “I need to figure out what I’ll going to do when the season ends, but I think I’ll be fi

March 27, 2004 – 15:45Coralis grabbed her shoes, slid her arm around Kief’s elbow and let him lead her toward the elevators then to the limousine waiting for them.“Ahhh Blue Thunder! You have no idea how honoured I am to be the one driving you to your wedding.”“Petaan! It’s a good surprise to see you as my driver.”“You got three CMMA elders attending your wedding,” said Petaan as he drove to the church, “believe it or not, you are writing history today.”“I probably will never understand why. I am not the first elemental being to marry a human, and I’m sure I won’t be the last. High Mage Finnas said that High Fay Ellya and High Elf Yalor were attending to discourage anyone from trying anything.”“It’s a sign of the times we’re in and a clear indication of what you’ve become,” said Kief.“Sebastian did the same thing 3 months ago,” said Coralis as she put her shoes on.“Like you, Sebastian Larameer has made a name for himself in the flyball circuit and he is well-known, but you know

March 27, 2004 – noonCoralis sat on the table, her elbows on her knees, her hands holding her forehead. Her head was spinning and her mind was numb. She hadn’t slept all night and was still hammered from a night of drinking. Victoria, Stephanie, Maribel, Eva and Veronica took her out for drinks the previous night after her flyball game, arguing that if she was to blend in and pass for a human, she needed to go through a bachelorette party. She could hear her friends snoring across her bridal suite, repeatedly hitting the snooze button on their alarm. The wedding was scheduled for 16:00, so they still had some time. She considered going for another shower, even if she still had her towel wrapped around her, but a loud knock on the door startled her.She jumped off the table, tied the towel again around her and headed to the door. From the corner of her eyes, she saw Eva and Veronica sitting up.“Good morning!” said Molly as she walked in, followed by Lizzy.Lizzy was carrying a large p

March 13, 2004“Prince Nuuka and his family will be at your wedding? Damn, okay, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to hear that many dignitaries of our kind are going to attend. Everyone loves flyball… but I think her name is now bigger than the game,” said Victoria.“When was the last time you talked to her?” said Frank.Coralis and Sebastian were playing in Ethiopia that night. Victoria and Stephanie came to Frank’s apartment to watch the game, and Samantha and Jeremie attentively watched it.“Hmm right after the new year, why? Who else is coming?”“Did she tell you who’ll be singing at their wedding?” said Stephanie.“No. The last time I talked to her, she talked about yours and asked me questions about the part where your mom walked you down the aisle.”“Is it what she worries about? Because lately… I don’t know, she seems distant and barely talks to me,” said Frank.Victoria looked at him, and she became worried about Coralis. She knew, however, that it probably wasn’t for the sam
