Chapter one

                        BRENDA

It's my wedding day.

Today is supposed to be the happiest day of my life but I found myself zoning out as I stare at my reflection in the mirror, my papa had made a deal with The Vipers, and my marriage to their Capon is made to seal the deal and alliance between both clans.

"Are you sure you are alright?" Vidia my maid asked and I nodded not knowing what else to say.

I'm getting married to a man older than my father and I'm so excited about it.

Yay.

My mom stood at the door staring at me, her cold gaze made me straighten my posture keeping my chin up. After the death of my elder brother my parents tried to shape me into a weapon and I did all they asked only for them to get rid of me at the first opportunity they got.

I have been taught all I need to know to be a good wife and the Vipers aren't like my clan, we still give women a chance to prove themselves here.

But they see women as breeders and nothing else. That old bastard grabbed me the other day saying I would produce fine children for him.

I was suddenly filled with rage, rage that I was about to give my life away for my parents, they had no right in training and preparing me to lead the clan only to ship me off to this old bastard.

"The car is ready ChĂŠri" Mama announced and the girls in the room squealed, I don't even know any of them apart from Vidia. I think Mama paid them to be my bridesmaids.

I don't have friends because I wasn't allowed to keep them, even in college I was avoided until I graduated no one wanted anything to do with the mafia princess.

I stood up and took the bouquet from Vidia. I gave her a tight smile.

I have known her since we were kids and she has always been there for me.

Goodbyes were not really my thing.

"Until next time" I mumbled and she threw her arms around my neck hugging me, Mama huffed in annoyance as I wrapped my arms around her.

Vidia wasn't allowed to attend the wedding because she is a maid, "Don't worry we will see each other again" I assured her, and she let go of me with tears in her beautiful brown eyes.

"Thank you for everything and please take care of yourself" She sniffed and I nodded before walking towards my mother, my heels clacking on the marble tiles.

"Alright, ladies it's time to go," Mama said and the bridesmaids followed as I walked down the hallway towards the exit.

They were complimenting my wedding gown but my heartbeat was the only sound I could hear, the thumping intensified as we got closer to the car taking me to the venue.

"Get in" Mama ordered from behind and I obeyed letting the girls carry the layers of my gown shoving it inside the car.

For the first time since Austin's death, I felt like crying, Mama entered the car through the other side, a silent reminder not to try anything, Papa can be cruel sometimes but Mama is even more vicious than him.

"You should understand that this is for your own good, the Vipers will make a good ally with The Fiends breathing down our neck. We need to find a way to overpower them when the time comes" She stated and I fought with the urge to scoff.

That's just bullshit.

We can't overpower the Fiends, those bastards are just like their names, bikers and mafias, they run this city even if Papa would deny that.

And they killed my elder brother, Austin's dismembered body was sent to us in a duffel bag.

I cried until I passed out that day and I still see that horrible scene in my nightmares, Austin was the best brother and would have made a good leader. But he was soft, he thought he could meet up with the Fiends secretly and negotiate with them but those bastards killed him.

Their leader is Kaden Blackwood, the most heartless person on earth. He is the same age as Austin but he leads the clan with an iron hand, some rumors say he drinks human blood but I know it's just an exaggeration.

Because rumors say I kill with my bare hands too, I had made it my life's purpose to avenge my brother and I killed Kaden's second in command in retaliation, but that isn't enough.

I want them dead, including Kaden. But I have never seen the bastard. Another rumor says whenever he shows up it means there will be a lot of deaths, so he only shows his face if he wants to kill.

The car halted and the driver rushed out to open the door for me, I got out of the car and waited for Mama to stand beside me.

"Remember this is for the best, once you are married to Don Ferdinand, you belong to him and you will do whatever he tells you to do. It is a duty of a wife to please her husband and if he tells you to jump, you ask how high. They value children and I'm sure you can do that too, no contacting your Papa to complain about anything. I know you are strong enough to be able to handle anything" She uttered in a calm tone and I nodded even if my fist clenched.

Ask how high? That's pathetic and coming from her it's pure hypocrisy, She challenges Papa in every way and our clan is one of the clans that treats women as equals because of her.

We entered the building and I was told to wait in a room while she went to call my father. My bridesmaids were busy discussing among themselves they didn't notice when I slipped out of the room.

I took off the stupid veil and threw it on the floor. I wasn't even a backdoor virgin but of course mother thinks she knows best.

Little did she know I already planned my escape, the whole obedience puppy was an act and there is no way I would marry that wrinkled thing.

I took off the heels next and dropped the floating drapes on my wedding gown leaving a fitted bottom and as I stretched I could hear the fabric ripping, I giggled running towards the parking lot.

Vidia had helped me plan the whole thing and that's why I picked this dress. She also made a bike available to take me away. Using a car would be risky.

The ground felt cold on my bare feet but I didn't mind it, thank Goodness that Mama confiscated my phone thinking I might try something.

Too bad she couldn't stop me.

I had three minutes left and I was counting in my head as I got to the parking lot looking around. I panicked as two minutes passed and I still hadn't seen my getaway driver.

I could hear voices and yells coming from the building, "Fuck! Where the hell is he?" I snapped looking around just then a gang of bikers approached all dressed in black leather jackets and black jeans.

Is that my clue?

I heaved a sigh of relief-

"Brenda!!! Get back here!" Mama's voice boomed from behind me and I took off instantly, The bikers had their helmets on and I waved for them to stop.

"Stop! Wait!" I yelled and the one in the center stopped.

"Why the fuck did you take so long?!" I smacked his shoulder and mounted the bike wrapping my arms around his waist, his body was as hard as a rock packed with muscles and I wondered where Vidia got him from.

The others were still approaching the building.

"What are you doing? Get me out of here! Or do I have to remind you about your goddamn job" I barked and it was as if he froze then he started the engine.

"Brenda!!!"

I looked ahead of us and I saw the bikers surrounding my mother, they kept driving in circles around her like vultures preparing to feast.

I furrowed my brows in confusion as I saw th

e look of horror on my mother's face.

Why did she look like she was about to cry as she watched me?

But you can start again.”Her words hung in the air, reassuring me in the most unimaginable way. I stole a glance at her, and she nodded, like she was confirming what she had said.My lips pressed together, a new surge of hope burning inside me as I stood to my feet. “Thank you Kira for your kind words. I have to take my leave now.”***Later that evening, I found myself walking down the building, near Kaden's block. I didn’t plan to — my feet just sort of led me there. The sun was setting, burning through my skin.I stopped across the building, staring at the small block with the dim light coming from the window. I could see a shadow move inside — his shadow. For a long moment, I just stood there, my hands in my pockets, my heart pounding.I wanted to walk up to the door and knock. I wanted to tell him how sorry I was. But Kira’s words

Chapter 133BrendaIt had been three days since I last saw Kaden. Three long, quiet, and heavy days. The first day, I thought it didn’t matter. I thought maybe it was better this way — that after everything that happened, maybe we both needed space. But as each hour passed, the silence started to bother me more than I expected. Now, sitting alone in my room, I couldn’t stop thinking about him.The rain had stopped outside, leaving the sky dull. I sat by the window, watching little drops of water slide down the glass. My chest felt tight, like something inside was twisting slowly and wouldn’t stop.Kaden hadn’t called. He hadn’t texted. He hadn’t even looked my way since that night. And I couldn’t blame him.I pressed my palms against my eyes, trying to stop the tears that were already forming. “Why did I do that?” I whispered to myself. The sound of my own voice made the room feel even emptier. When I called the police on him, I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought he was da

Chapter 132Kaden The next morning, I woke up early. The light coming through the curtains was soft and warm. I stretched and sat up, feeling something I hadn’t felt in a long time — calm. When I stepped out into the living room, Kira was already there, sitting at the table with a cup of coffee. She looked up and smiled. “Morning.”“Morning,” I said quietly. She studied my face for a moment. “You look better.”“Yeah,” I said. “A little.”She nodded, her smile widening. “That’s good. You deserve some peace.”I sat down across from her. “Thank you, Kira. For everything.”She waved it off. “You don’t have to thank me. I just did what was right.”“Still,” I said, looking down at the cup she’d poured for me. “Not everyone would’ve believed me.”“I did,” she said softly. “And I always will.”Something in my chest eased even more as she said those words. And then, just like it came, Kira’s smile faded a little when she saw how serious I looked. Chapter 131KarenWhen Kira and I got home, the air in the house felt strange… everywhere was quiet and it felt a bit strange. The drive back had been silent. Kira sat beside me, her hands on her lap, her eyes fixed on the road. Every now and then, she’d glance my way, as if to make sure I was really there.I didn’t blame her for the silence. What could she even say? What could I say? When we walked into the house, everything looked the same, but it didn’t feel the same. Kira turned to me gently. “You should rest, Karen. You’ve been through a lot.”I nodded without a word. My body was tired, but my mind wouldn’t stop running. As I made my way down the hallway towards my room, I passed by Brenda’s door. It was closed. For a moment, I stopped there, listening. I thought I heard movement — maybe she was pacing, maybe crying. I didn’t know. But I didn’t knock. Not because I was angry, but because I wasn't ready for any drama… not yet.I just… didn’t know what to say. After what happened,

Chapter 130KiraI couldn't sleep throughout the night.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Karen’s face, filled with shock, fear and disbelief. I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling, my hands clutching the blanket. My mind wouldn’t stop running. None of this made any sense.Karen couldn’t have killed Alistair. I knew him. He wasn’t perfect, but he wasn’t a murderer.I kept replaying everything in my head, restlessly trying to piece out the puzzle.By morning, I made up my mind. I was going to find out the truth myself.I got up, threw on a jacket, and left the house quietly. The guards at the gate barely noticed me as I walked past. My hands were shaking a little, but my mind was clear. I needed answers, and I wasn’t going to rest until I found them. The first person I went to was a guard named Mason. He was one of the few people who had been around that night Alistair died. He was older than most of the other guards, quiet, and usually kept to himself.I found him standing by the ba

Chapter 129KiraI was standing by the door, my hand already on the knob, ready to leave, when I heard something that made my heart stop.It was a loud thud, followed by voices shouting from the hallway. At first, I thought I was imagining things. But then I heard it clearly this time—someone yelling, “Freeze! Hands up!”My stomach dropped. That wasn’t just anyone’s voice. It was a policeman.I turned sharply, my heart pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. My steps felt slow at first, but as the noise grew louder, I ran towards the sound. When I reached the corner of the hallway, I froze. Two policemen were dragging someone through the open window. And that person was Karen. For a second, I couldn’t breathe. My mind refused to believe what my eyes were seeing. His hands were cuffed behind his back, his shirt wrinkled, and his face pale under the bright light. One of the officers had a tight grip on his arm, while the other pushed him forward.“Wait—what’s going on?” I shouted,
