MINA

“Mom,” Elias said in a warning tone, but she didn’t heed it at all. Instead, she stood and went out of the dining room with Alfie, ready to greet their guest.

I turned to him slightly. “You didn’t tell me you had a fiancée,” I whispered. If that was the case, then I shouldn’t have kissed him, nor should I have held onto his cock!

“I don’t,” he whispered back. “She—”

His statement was cut off when a woman entered, wearing a very pretty emerald silk dress. She had black hair and green eyes just like mine; however, her clothes and accessories set us worlds apart. I turned to Elias once more, glaring at him from under my hood. I shook my head slightly and focused my gaze back on the food, stuffing my face to rid myself of guilt. I never wanted to intrude on any relationship.

His relatives’ attention was stolen right away. “Good evening, everyone,” she greeted. “My name is Amara Nightingale, originally from the North.”

“Ooh, from the North. Are you acquainted with Cade Callahan?” the

MINA Before Calla could explain further, the door opened.“Calla, my baby! I’m here!” Rowan’s voice filled the room, cutting straight through the tension. “I brought you your favorite bubble tea. Don’t tell your mom—”He stopped.I felt it the moment he did. Rowan’s gaze swept the room in a single glance, and the fatherly smile slid off his face.He didn’t ask questions right away. He simply crossed the room, set the drinks and his bag down carefully, and crouched in front of Calla.“Hey,” he said gently, arms opening. “Come here.”Calla moved instantly, collapsing into her dad. Rowan lifted her easily, holding her close, one hand cradling the back of her head, the other rubbing comforting circles into her back. It was a silent reminder that no matter how much she knew or saw, she was still a child. She buried her face against his shoulder and held on.Rowan exhaled slowly, eyes closing for a brief second before he looked at us again. “Did she see something?” he asked. He must have

MINA With Tessa and the other healthcare workers gone, we were left all alone with the presence of Calla. I could feel the young girl’s stare weighing down on us. If there was another thing she was really good at aside from being smart and powerful, it was judgment. She really did have a very good judging stare. However, I couldn’t blame her.If I were witnessing what she was witnessing right now, I would judge us, too.Elias hadn’t loosened his hold on me yet, and worse, it felt like he was scenting me far too much. His breath lingered on my neck, and he didn’t even hide the fact that he was trying to claim me. It was definitely Alpha instinct, heightened by injury and separation. Still, this was a hospital. And more importantly—“A child is here,” I whispered, angling my head to murmur it against his ear.He hummed, entirely unbothered. Then his gaze shifted, landing squarely on Calla.“A child would be cute,” he said thoughtfully. Then, with alarming ease, “Do you want to make

MINA I let Calla hold onto my hand. Her fingers were much smaller than mine, but surprisingly firm. I had heard of her power of foresight before, but not in good detail. I knew she was half-witch, but her abilities seemed to rival elders who had lived five times her life. It must be nice, I thought, looking at her. It must be nice to be born with something like that. To know, without doubt, that the world had carved a place for you.But as I studied her face, I realized that power never came without cost. Knowing that Tessa and Rowan had saved Montrose with her at their side, I understood something then. Some people weren’t born lucky. They were born necessary. They were meant for good things because the world needed them to endure bad ones first. Her grip tightened suddenly.Calla gasped. Her knuckles went white. I felt it immediately—an unfamiliar pressure rising in my chest. “Calla!”Tessa’s voice cut through the room as she rushed back in. She crossed the distance between us a

MINA His hand was still at the back of my neck when his lips moved again. His tongue slipped into my mouth like it had every right in the world to be there. When the realization dawned on me, I pulled back hard. I stumbled away from the bed, making me nearly trip over the chair, my heart hammering against my chest. I scrambled to the far end of the room and spun around to face him, my hands clenched into fists at my sides.“You’re supposed to be knocked out cold,” I snapped. “Tessa said you’re still recovering.”He looked far too pleased for someone who’d nearly died hours ago. He was propped slightly against the pillows as he gave me a lazy, crooked smile.“Nothing beats the power of your lips,” he said hoarsely.I closed my eyes in frustration, dragging in a long breath through my nose. Moon Goddess, give me patience. When I opened them again, my irritation stalled. It was because he didn’t actually look fine. The smugness was in his eyes, but his skin still had a faint gray cast

MINA We arrived in the South just as the skies started pouring. Everything after that felt fragmented, like I was moving through water. The pack hospital was already anticipating our arrival. I nearly sighed in relief when I saw Tessa. However, when she swore the moment she saw him, that relief quickly recoiled. “Fuck,” she said under her breath, already moving toward him, hands glowing faintly as she peeled back the bloodied gauze. Her jaw tightened. “Who did this?”“My aunt,” I answered. “It's wolfsbane mixed with alcohol.” Tessa inhaled slowly through her nose and shook her head. That was when they ushered me out.The doors closed. And just like that, I was alone in the hallway. The silence was unbearable.I paced at first, then stopped pacing because my legs felt like they might give out. My thoughts spiraled so fast I couldn’t hold onto a single one for more than a second. What if the detox wasn’t enough? What if the wolfsbane had already spread too far? What if—“Drink.”I w

  • Bonds at War: The Untouched is Mine   Souls at War 56: Not The Time

MINA I stayed close, my hands hovering over him. The halls blurred past us as he was wheeled out of the hospital. Someone said something about the hospital wing still being under renovation. Someone else explained, hurriedly, that they couldn’t properly treat werewolves here yet. I barely heard any of it.He was awake, but he looked too pale. His lips had lost that infuriatingly smug curve they usually held, and the color had drained from his face. Still, his eyes were open—half-lidded, unfocused at times, but open.A healer witch had appeared out of nowhere earlier, muttering under her breath, hands glowing faintly as she pressed them against his side. She detoxified him only enough to buy time. However, it wasn’t enough to make him okay. Since the hospital was still being built, the facilities weren’t up to par just yet. Along with that, they couldn’t handle cases of werewolves like Elias. So, we had to go to Fenra to get him treated. When they finally rolled him onto his yacht
