Chapter 1

作者: Shirley
After three years of gathering herbs, I returned to Green-Pouch Valley to find my beloved master dead, his celestial bones torn from his body.

I soon learned that the one responsible was my ex-husband, the Celestial Lord. The same man who once tore out my heart had now taken my master's bones.

I had no choice but to abandon the peaceful life I had fought so hard to find. Dragging my longsword, I set out for the Nine Heavens. This time, I would settle all our debts, old and new, for my master's life, my child's life, and my own.

I returned to my thatched hut and stopped before the old writing desk inside.

On the brush rack hung an ebony folding fan.

I usually used it to fan the flames of my medicinal furnace. I reached up and took it down.

Auntie Qin, who had followed me into the hut, grabbed my wrist, her voice choked with sobs.

"Shuang'er, I know you are full of hate. I know you want to avenge your master."

"But Jun Che is a primordial god. How could you possibly defeat him with an ordinary fan?"

"I am begging you. Please, do not go."

"Your master said it was a worthy death, one life in exchange for the future of the entire valley."

But I knew the old man was lying.

One look at this desolate valley was enough to know the truth.

After Jun Che had drained him of all he had, those disciples ascended with his murderer, rejoicing without a single look back.

In this vast, empty valley, not a single person had stayed to gather even a handful of their master's blood-soaked earth.

Did he truly think this pack of selfish beasts was worth it?

Under my cold gaze, Auntie Qin's cries grew more desperate.

Terrified that I would rush to my death, she bit her lip to stifle her sobs and forced a smile.

"Shuang'er, let's not talk about this. You are home, safe and sound, are you not? As long as you carry him in your heart, his spirit will be at peace."

Hoping to dispel my murderous aura, Auntie Qin hastily turned and brought a steaming clay pot from the stove.

"Shuang'er, Green-Pouch Valley is a humble place with little power. Let us not seek revenge."

"Look, this is the Hundred-Herb Soup your master left for you. He brewed it with his own hands."

"He was always saying how you had endured the elements for three years. He said you would be weak and need something hot to eat when you returned."

I lowered my eyes. A few drops of blackened blood spattered the pot's rim.

I stared at the stains. "Was he still brewing soup for me while he was being flayed alive?"

Auntie Qin's hands trembled, her voice shattering.

"Yes. He protected the furnace with his life, terrified the heat would grow too high and make the soup bitter."

"He always remembered. My Shuang'er cannot stand bitter medicine."

My fingers, hanging at my side, went stiff.

That old man was so shrewd in his craft, yet when it came to me, he was so easily fooled.

I was never afraid of bitterness.

I simply found life meaningless and did not want to drink the medicine.

A century ago, he found me at the foot of a mountain, my soul fractured, kept alive only by the bitter concoctions he brewed.

I found it a nuisance and would secretly dump the dregs into the dirt.

When Master found out, he did not scold me. Instead, he ran ten miles to the nearest town to buy me malt sugar.

He coaxed me like a child, telling me a little sweetness would make the bitterness go away.

A surge of malice rose in me then, and I replied coldly that I did not like sweets and despised bitterness even more.

In the end, I could not outlast his gentle persistence and dutifully drank the medicine for a hundred years. But he took my petulant, offhand remark to heart.

And he remembered it for a hundred years.

From that day on, not a single bitter leaf ever appeared in my bowl again.

I took the pot from Auntie Qin's hands, seemingly immune to its scalding heat, and drank half of it in one gulp.

The other half, I poured out beside my master's bloody robes.

I wiped the corner of my mouth.

"Old man, the heat was just right. But it is mixed with blood, so it has a metallic tang."

"Try it yourself. In your next life, be more careful when you brew it."

That sentence completely shattered Auntie Qin's forced composure.

She collapsed to her knees, wailing.

"Shuang'er! There is no next life! His soul was annihilated. He is not coming back!"

Right. A god had acted. Naturally, not even a wisp of a soul remained. There was no next life.

I untied the wind-proof cloak from my shoulders, the one my master stitched for me thread by thread, and gently covered the glaring stains on the ground.

My voice was calm. "Auntie Qin, watch over this makeshift grave. Do not bury him yet."

"He always loved company. It will be too cold for him to lie in the ground alone. I am going to invite a few honored guests to join him."

Auntie Qin could not stop me, and could only cry and beg me to come back alive.

Holding the ebony fan, I set foot on the Celestial Ascension Stairway to the Nine Heavens alone.

With a flick of my wrist, the fan's ribs and surface elongated in a flash of blinding black light, transforming into a longsword as dark as ink.

A jet-black wave of sword energy crashed down like a bolt of lightning.

The magnificent Ascension Stairway shattered with a deafening roar. Jade stone splintered and collapsed, and half the Celestial Realm shook violently.

Countless celestial soldiers and generals poured out of the Southern Heavenly Gate in a panic, blocking my path.

Leading them was none other than my dear Senior Brother, Shen Xiu. Master's most prized disciple.

Dressed in the magnificent brocade robes of a celestial official, he frowned when he saw it was me and barked, "Su Shuang! If you have come to your senses and wish to swear fealty to the Celestial Lord, you should have crawled up here on your knees!"

"What is the meaning of this? Why did you destroy the Ascension Stairway?!"

I did not even bother to look at him. I just gripped my sword, my gaze locked on the depths beyond the Heavenly Gate, my voice as cold as ice.

"Tell Jun Che to show himself."

"Tell him an old acquaintance has come to call."

When I brutally tore open my chest and dug out my own heart in the courtyard of Green-Pouch Valley, Auntie Qin wept until she was hoarse. She cursed me as she rushed over."Shuang'er, are you mad?! What in the world are you doing?!"Duanyuan, in his human form, blocked her path. Choking back a sob, he explained, "She is reviving Master Gu."This heaven-defying forbidden art was a secret known to none in the three realms but Duanyuan. The heart of the Lord of the Abyssal Void, that core of black flame, possesses the divine power to regrow flesh on bone and bring the dead to life.Auntie Qin stopped short, muttering in a daze, "If she loses her heart... what will happen to her?"Duanyuan clenched his jaw, silent for a long moment before he managed to force out the truth. "She will fall forever into the void, her soul annihilated, never to be reborn."Auntie Qin's body trembled violently. She began to shriek at me, a heart-wrenching, desperate cry. "No! Shuang'er, stop!""Even if your mas

On that day, the colossal roar of the Celestial Palace's collapse shook the three realms. The mortals on earth looked up at the sky in horror, only to see a torrential rain of crimson falling from the heavens.Someone held out a hand to catch it, brought it to their nose, and then screamed in terror, "Blood! This rain is blood!""What in the world has happened in the Nine Heavens?!"The mortals, of course, would never know that at that moment, the lofty heavens had already become a mountain of the dead in a sea of blood. The once-celestial-wreathed palace was now a ruin. In the dead silence, only Jun Che and I remained, both of us on the verge of utter exhaustion.Duanyuan's spirit let out a deafening, mournful cry, roaring in fury, "Jin Yao, I'll finish this bastard for you!"I weakly pressed my hand on the hilt, my gaze as firm as ice."The blood debt for my master... I must be the one to claim it myself.""Besides, you can't beat him."Sensing that I was forcibly drawing on the most

Auntie Qin stared blankly at my unfamiliar, demonic face.Jun Che, thinking she had recognized the demon's identity and would recoil in horror, continued his incitement. "Kill this demon! If she dies, I guarantee that Green-Pouch Valley will ascend and prosper for all eternity!"Jun Che was the same as he was a hundred years ago, a master manipulator who understood the human heart to its core.He was certain I would never raise a hand against Auntie Qin and sought to use a mortal's fear to cut me again, without spilling a drop of his own blood. But Auntie Qin quickly came to her senses. She messily wiped the tears from her face, scrambled to her feet, and resolutely stood in front of me."This old woman doesn't know anything about demon lords.""I only know that Shuang'er is the child I raised with my own two hands.""And I know my late husband's temper better than anyone.""He devoted his life to healing. Even if it cost him his life, he would never have traded Shuang'er for some damn

The moment I finished speaking, a ball of black abyssal flame erupted from my palm, shooting toward Jun Che's face with the force of a thunderbolt. He snorted and, with a flick of his sleeve, dispersed the demonic energy, his eyes full of contempt."You think to harm me with a mere mortal's trick?"I smiled. "The Celestial Lord is so clever, yet so foolish.""This killing blow was never aimed at you. It was for your precious wife."Jun Che's expression changed in an instant. He whipped his head around. But the space beside him was empty.Chao Yan was already in my grasp, her fragile throat locked in my hand.Jun Che's face flushed with panic, but he dared not make a rash move.He said urgently, "If you have a grievance, direct it at me! Let Yan'er go!""What happened back then has nothing to do with her. She is a mere mortal!"My face was impassive. "How could it have nothing to do with her?""Inside that delicate body of hers, she is still hiding something of mine."Before the words h

Jun Che's pupils contracted. "Absurd!" he said, his voice full of disbelief."Given Jin Yao's nature, how could she have possibly hidden a pregnancy from me!"I looked at him, my expression unreadable. "If you had known of the child's existence back then, would you still have struck that fatal blow?"On the day of our wedding, the day I was betrayed, I had only just sensed the small life within me.My heart was full of joy. I had planned to save it for our wedding night, to give him a wonderful surprise. But he never gave me the chance. For the hundred years since I was reforged, I had endlessly wondered. If he had known he was about to become a father, would that palm strike still have landed without a shred of mercy?Today, I would finally hear the answer from his own lips. But the answer, as always, was cruel.Jun Che hesitated for a moment, then his face contorted into a mask of cold, righteous fury. The word "husband" made Jun Che freeze.Liu Ying, collapsed on the ground, thought I had lost my mind. Enduring the searing pain of her broken bones, she screamed, "Su Shuang! You're at death's door and you still dare to spout such lies!""Everyone in the three realms knows the Celestial Lord has only ever had one wife!"Even the usually graceful and gentle Chao Yan flushed with anger. She pointed at me, her voice sharp. "You vile demon, you have no shame!""I have been with my husband for centuries and have never once heard of another wife!"Yes. How could these latecomers possibly know?On that wedding day, the gods and celestials who witnessed Jun Che's betrayal had long since been silenced, either by death or by decree.Jun Che had gone to great lengths to ensure the three realms would worship him as the peerless hero who suppressed the demonic realm.
