Beeeep- beeeep- beeeep.

I came back to consciousness in pieces and the first thing that I heard was the sharp beeping of a monitor, then light and I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen.

“Mmmh”. I groaned trying to move.

“Elowen, Don't move”.

Cassian said with a rough voice.

I felt relieved when I saw him.

“I'm here”. He said but this time in a softer tone.

My hands flew instinctively to my stomach.

“My babies…”. I croaked.

“They are okay”,Cassian said immediately.

“Both of them”.

I heaved a big sigh of relief and tears slid down my temples.

Doctor Wright came in and told me that I had frightened them.

“The twins are strong”. She said,

“What happened?” I said in whispers.

“Stress-induced contraction”, she explained. “Your body is under so much pressure”.

Her eyes flickered briefly to Cassian. She told him that emotional stress can be dangerous as physical traumas and guilt flashed across his face.

“I'll give you both privacy”. She said before stepping out.

Cassian sat beside the bed with his elbows on his knees and hand clasped tightly together.

He looked like someone who was terrified to lose everything.

“I almost lost you”. He said quietly.

I swallowed hard.

“You didn't”, I replied.

He stared at me for a while and said.

“ For the first time, I see what my world does to people who don't belong in it”.

His voice cracked.

“I dragged you into it”.

I told him that he already protected me and the action he took was already enough and he said that he was going to end everything and he would never let Yura move first.

“How?” I asked confusedly.

“I'll expose everything”. He said.

“The engagement, my father's interference and her manipulation”.

I paused.

“Hmm… what if it costs you everything?” I asked softly.

“Then it's worth it”.

Later that night, Cassian told me that he wished he had told me the truth earlier and he pleaded for my trust.

I needed honesty not just promises and he vowed that I'd have it.

Mary came to visit me and it seemed like she was crying because her eyes were red. She was relieved when she saw that I was fine.

“She's not leaving the hospital tonight”. She said firmly.

Cassian nodded.

“Me too”. He said.

Hours later, Cassian slept upright in a chair beside my bed and a message came in from an unknown number.

“Mmmh” he groaned as he adjusted himself and cleared his eyes to see the text.

“The scare was only a warning. Next time, I won't miss”. The message read.

Cassian widened his eyes and stared at me. I was already sleeping.

His expression hardened into something dangerous.

“This will end," he whispered.

Outside the hospital window. A figure stood across the street watching and waiting.

Cassian didn't sleep again that night. He watched me every minute.

—--

The next morning was cold.

Cassian walked into the hallway and closed the door behind him.

He made a phone call.

“Find her”, he said.

“I want every camera within a five mile radius of the hospital accessed”, he continued calmly. “The hotel logs, ride records and private drivers. Now!”

He said and ended the call.

In the morning, his head of security arrived.

“We have traced the signal”, the man said.

“She was nearby,”he added.

Cassian's jaw tightened.

“How close was she, huh?

“Er…sir, across the street”, the man replied.

Cassian gasped.

“She's watching her”, the man added quietly.

I woke up and Cassian entered immediately. I sensed something had gone wrong and when I asked him if something had happened. He lied instinctively. I felt it but I was too tired to argue or even fight.

—-

Dr. Wright entered the hospital room with a clipboard and told me that I would be staying one more night in the hospital in order not to stress myself.

I almost laughed. Cassian placed his hand gently under my arm and said;

“We'll follow every instruction for our own good”. He said to me,

His tone left me no choice.

—-

Cassian's father called twice that afternoon but Cassian didn't answer. It was the third time that he picked up the call.

“This is becoming a public embarrassment”. He snapped without greeting.

“You are the one that created her”, he replied coldly.

Mr. Blackmoor laughed.

“You are quite emotional Cassian. Fix it”.

Cassian ended the call angrily.

In the evening, Yura received a text message. There was no name, no location or even explanation. She looked at it for a long time and smiled.

“So you have decided to play along”. She smirked.

Cassian arrived at the address alone. It was an empty roof top.

Yura stepped from the shadows walking elegantly as always.

“You look tired”. She said sweetly

Cassian looked at her annoyingly.

“You are supposed to be tired. You are so done”.

She laughed.

“Hehehe, you won't hurt me”. She said confidently.

“You are not your father”.

Cassian stepped closer and asked her to stay away from Elowen and the twins.

Yura laughed mockingly.

“Or what?” She asked.

“If you ever threaten them again….”.

He was interrupted by a call from his phone. It was a call from the hospital.

Cassian’s heart skipped. He picked instantly.

“Yes?”

“Mr. Blackmoor”, a nurse said. “She's asking for you”.

Cassian heaved a sigh of relief.

“I'm coming”.

He turned to leave and Yura giggled.

“You can never escape me, Cassian. I'm part of your legacy”.

She laughed.

“Get lost! You are a mistake”.

He said without turning back.

—-

Back at home, I lay down staring at the ceiling and waiting for Cassian.

Something was not right. The door opened and Cassian rushed in immediately.

“You left”. I said quietly.

His mouth was agape, his eyes met my eyes and I knew he had crossed a line.

“You crossed a line, Cassian”.

“I did it for us”, he said.

I looked at him for a while.

“Mmmh….Just make sure”, I said calmly but in whispers. “That you don't become what we are running from”.

I said and turned to the other side of the bed and for the first time he didn't answer.
