"Cassian please…”

I typed.

No reply yet.

The door opened wider and a stranger came in wearing a suit that was too clean for a friendly visit.

I gasped moving backwards.

“Miss Hartwell,” he said calmly.

“My name is Mr. Grant. We just want to talk with you”.

“I…I don't know you”. I stuttered.

“That's quite unfortunate but I'm here to take you somewhere safe”. He said with an awkward grin.

“Same from who?” I asked instinctively.

“Somewhere safe from people like me”. He answered.

I looked around with my side eyes trying to escape from the windows but he warned.

—--

Inside Blackmoor tower, Cassian kept trying to reach out to me but there was no response or even signal. He signaled the security man to track her device and he discovered that they've got Elowen.

—-

Back inside my apartment, Grant stepped forward, appearing with two other men blocking the exit.

“Get away from me”, I yelled.

Grant told me that they were following orders of someone from the past.

I hesitated and tried running. But they grabbed my arms. I kicked Grant and he stumbled in surprise. I shoved past him and dashed towards the hallway sobbing and running.

The elevator was too slow. I cursed and darted for the staircase and I screamed hearing footsteps behind me.

A hand grabbed me by the hair.

“End of game”. Grant said grinning.

I used my elbow to hit his ribs and he grunted in pain. Another man grabbed my wrist and I kept on trying to release myself.

Then a voice thundered through the staircase.

“LET HER GO”.

Grant froze. I looked up in pain, fear and amidst sobs.

He stared at the men with fury eyes and they released me instantly and disappeared.

Cassian carried me to the waiting car outside and told me that those men were his father's mistakes. I couldn't understand what he was saying but as the car drove in darkness, he made a phone call.

“ Hello. begin phase one”. He said quietly into the phone.

“They tried to take her”. He said and ended the call with a cold and furious face.

The war had begun.

He took me to his home and I was served by a maid who introduced herself as Mary.

I woke up the next morning with a nightmare. It felt too real. I sat up shivering.

The door clicked open and Cassian stood there.

He hadn't changed his clothes.

“You are shaking”, he murmured.

“Umm. I had a nightmare. I thought they were going to take me”.

“They were meant to take you and once they did, nobody would ever find you again”.

I felt sick.

“Why?”

“For the same reason my father erased your mother”.

“Huh?”. I said with raised eye brows.

“Yes, she didn't pass away by accident. Someone didn't just want you to exist”.

Tears slid down my eyes. He held me tightly to his chest then he told me that I needed a doctor.

We went to the hospital together.

Inside waited a woman in her early forties with kind eyes and calm energy.

“I'm Dr. Evelyn Wright. You are safe here”.

She assured me.

“I'll start with something simple”.The doctor said gently.

I was examined and two soft heartbeats filled the room.

“They're really alive”. I whispered.

Cassian became worried. He complained about being able to be a man but I assured him that he could do it.

Later that afternoon, I rested on a large couch near the windows. Mary brought tea while Cassian worked silently nearby.

Then his phone buzzed three times. He checked it and frowned, then stiffened. I sat up.

“What is it?” I asked worriedly.

He didn't give me an answer.

“That wasn't the only photo,” he said quietly.

“Photo of ... what?”

“Of us”. He said.

“Someone is watching”.

I wondered what he meant. They were no cameras inside the room.

“...someone breached my walls”.

“But your walls are impossible to breach”. I murmured.

“Nothing's impossible. Just expensive.”

Cassian said

He ordered his security guard to lock down the property and to restrict any access without biometrics.

My stomach tightened. I was scared.

Cassian led me to a quiet room and asked me to stay there.

That night, Cassian insisted that I stayed in a room protected with personal guards and doors. I lay there looking at the ceiling and forcing sleep to come then I got a message from an unknown number. I opened it.

And it read:

“How does it feel sleeping in the bed of a man who doesn't tell you everything?”

I became confused.

Another message followed.

“Did he tell you about Korea or about the woman he left behind?”

My heart began to pound.

Another message came in.

“You are just a replacement”.

My legs became weak and tears burned in my eyes. The last message broke me.

“The twins don't belong to you”.

A knock echoed at my door. It was a bit hard and urgent.

“Elowen!” Cassian called. “Open the door now”.

I scrambled up with trembling legs and fear choking me.

The truth was collapsing.

Beeeep- beeeep- beeeep.I came back to consciousness in pieces and the first thing that I heard was the sharp beeping of a monitor, then light and I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen.“Mmmh”. I groaned trying to move.“Elowen, Don't move”. Cassian said with a rough voice.I felt relieved when I saw him.“I'm here”. He said but this time in a softer tone.My hands flew instinctively to my stomach.“My babies…”. I croaked.“They are okay”,Cassian said immediately.“Both of them”.I heaved a big sigh of relief and tears slid down my temples.Doctor Wright came in and told me that I had frightened them.“The twins are strong”. She said,“What happened?” I said in whispers.“Stress-induced contraction”, she explained. “Your body is under so much pressure”.Her eyes flickered briefly to Cassian. She told him that emotional stress can be dangerous as physical traumas and guilt flashed across his face.“I'll give you both privacy”. She said before stepping out.Cassian sat beside the bed with

“The twins are part of an unresolved engagement contract”.The sentence replayed in my head that night until my chest ached.I could not sleep that night. In the morning, the house felt so different. Tenser like something bigger was going to happen.—--Cassian called for an emergency meeting before breakfast and different lawyers arrived in black cars. Both men and women with calm faces and dangerous intelligence.I sat quietly at the end of the long table. While Cassian stood at the head with a commanding and controlling aura.“This claim has no legal standing”, one of the lawyers said confidently.“Children can't be bound to a business agreement”.“Unless”, another added slowly, “the engagement contract included a future heir clause”.My heart skipped.Cassian's eyes darkened and he squeezed his fists in rage.“She wouldn't dare”, he said.“Mmmh…she already has”, the lawyer replied, looking through the brim of his eye glass and sliding a document forward.I stared at the paper. “Is she right?”I asked softly this time. A..about the engagement”.The sentence Yura made kept ringing in my head as I looked up to Cassian in expectation of a good answer.“Yes”. He finally said. And it felt like a sledgehammer hit me.“But not the way she made it sound”. He said quickly.Cassian made me follow him to a quiet living room with a floor to ceiling windows.Cassian narrated how his father was expanding into Asia. then, Korean was critical. And Yura's family controlled access.I sat down slowly.“Was she part of a deal?”, I whispered.“Yes,” he admitted. “An engagement arranged by our families”.Cassian told me that he doesn't love Yura. He told me how she threatened him and how his father paid for silence and sent him to London when she threw herself on the stairs and claimed that he pushed her.“What about the company?” I asked. He looked at me.“I still own part of it”. He admitted.“My father insisted. He said it was a "leverage”.“What? Leverage over who?” I asked

"Oh my gosh, she didn't tell you?” She said mockingly. “Your precious Elowen collapsed right in the waiting room”.Cassian walked right close to me.“Is that true huh?”I didn't know what to say. There was no way I could tell him that I was pregnant and talk more about telling him that I was pregnant. Never!!!“I was t.. tired”. Cassian roared at her.He came close to me and held my hands.Yura watched him do that in great bewilderment.I could say hate and jealousy in her eyes.“You have not held anyone like that before”. Yura said with a tone of jealousy.Cassian ignored and kept persuading me to open up.Yura instead intervened.“She fainted from shock”.
