Chapter 9

“Hey baby. I have missed you.” My warning bells in my ear rang as I heard the words come out of her slimy mouth. I stood there stunned, watching as the event unfolded before my eyes.

But I wasn’t surprised; I knew I could never trust Alex. I mean, who just pays for the bills of a coma patient just because he wants to marry her?

I just knew it; he was too good to be true, and if I had listened to my instinct and ran away the first time he uttered those words, I wouldn’t be in this position. I scrunched my face into a frown and folded my arms, trying but failing to prove that I wasn’t affected by her words.

But my mind was already racing, thinking about where I would go from here. I didn’t have any place to stay if she decided she was coming home with him, and I didn’t want to be his second wife, nor did I want to be hearing her moans as he fucked her.

I shuddered just as the thought crossed my mind. It was never going to happen, and I wouldn’t be there when it did.

I heard Alex release
