LOGINMaya's POV:
I knew that Declan could be ruthless, but hearing it stated so plainly still cut deep. At this point, I was irrelevant to him, something to be sacrificed for his own survival but I swallowed hard and nodded. “I won’t go back on the agreement.” He studied me for a while, then gestured to the guards . They drove me in silence through winding roads until we reached the dense forest bordering Bloodhound and Moonclaw territories. There, four huge men dressed entirely in black waited like statues. They took me without a word, bundling me into a black SUV. The drive felt endless, the forest blurring past until we pulled up at a sprawling packhouse that looked imposing. They led me inside, through echoing halls, and finally into a vast living room. A tall man rose from a leather couch. He was over six feet, easily taller than Declan’s six-three frame, with dark hair, piercing blue eyes, and a muscular body that made him far more handsome than Declan had ever been. But the aura rolling off him was darker and deadlier than anything I had felt from even the strongest Alpha and my knees gave out instantly. I dropped to the floor in fear, certain this was the Night Reaper. He sent the guards away with a single wave, leaving us alone in the echoing space. Then he crossed the room, crouched in front of me, and gently tilted my chin up so I had to meet his eyes. “Don’t be scared of me, I won't hurt you.” He said, voice surprisingly soft. “I won't hurt the woman that I want to make Luna of the nine packs I’ve taken over.” A thousand questions burned on my tongue, but I could only manage one. “Who… who are you?” He smiled, the expression transforming his sharp features. “Call me Cassian.” “Why do you want me as your Luna?” I whispered. “We can talk about that later.” He replied smoothly. “For now, you need to eat something.” He helped me to my feet with surprising gentleness and led me to a long dining table already set with steaming dishes. As we ate, my mind raced in circles. I was pregnant with Declan’s child, and now this strange man wanted me as his wife. How would he react if he found out? Would he force me to end the pregnancy? The thought terrified me. Still, I forced myself to eat, afraid refusing might anger him but his eyes never left me, watching every movement as if he could see straight into my soul. He served me more food with a warm smile, like we were old friends, but the attention only made my skin crawl with discomfort. When the meal ended, he called for maids to clear the plates, then rested his hand on the table and stared at me with open affection in his gaze as I gathered my courage again. “Why do you want me to be your wife…” A sharp pain lanced through my stomach, cutting the words off and I gasped, pressing a hand to my abdomen. It passed quickly, so I tried to continue, but the pain returned worse than before, twisting like a knife. I cried out, doubling over and Cassian rose instantly, concern flashing across his face. “Are you okay?” The pain intensified and I screamed, clutching my belly as warm blood trickled down my legs. Tears streamed down my face while Cassian scooped me up and carried me out of the room as the world blurred, and then everything went black. When I woke up, I was lying in a soft bed, while Cassian sat on a stool beside me, holding my hand. The moment I regained awareness, I yanked my fingers free and pressed both palms to my stomach. “How is my baby?” I demanded, voice hoarse. He met my eyes steadily. “You lost it.” The words shattered something inside me. For a moment I couldn’t breathe. I had considered ending the pregnancy at first, but over the days that followed I had grown to love the tiny life inside me because it was the one remaining thread tying me to Declan even if we would never share a future and now it was gone. My thoughts swirled until I remembered the pain had started right after eating. “You poisoned the food.” I whispered, sitting up abruptly. Then I grabbed his collar with both hands, and shook him. “How could you be so cruel? How could you kill an innocent baby?” Anger flashed across Cassian’s face as he shoved me back against the pillows. “I had to. There was no way I was going to let a woman carrying another man’s child become my Luna.” He stormed out of the room, leaving the door to slam behind him while I sat there alone in the silence, tears streaming down my face, staring at the empty space where he had been as my hand rested on my now-empty stomach.Maya's POV"What are you doing here?" Cassian suddenly questioned, his voice echoing and bouncing against all the walls of the arena.Everyone went silent.Even the prisoners that knew they were about to die, who had been whimpering and silently praying under their breaths, went silent. Not a single squeak was heard from them as Cassian started to approach me.He passed in front of them, without even sparing them a glance as his eyes were on me.I was caught off guard. My brain hadn't even processed what I was going to say to him, when he started the conversation.Confused and at loss of words on what could be the best answer to give him, I saw his eyes shift their gaze from me to the person behind me.I believed that Jasper hadn't left me there to deal with him alone, and I was right."Why did you bring her here?" He asked Jasper, completely ignoring my presence.I was still trying to figure out what to say, when Jasper answered,"She asked me to bring her to you. There's something t
Maya's POVAt first, I thought Jasper was lying, until he took me outside the pack house. The first thing I noticed was the dozens of warriors marching in tandem as they headed down a trail away from the pack house.I instantly got jitters all over my body and had a feeling that something wasn't right. They didn't wear their normal uniform. The dark coats that they had on were sweeping the ground that they walked on.Something about how they were all dead silent, and the only noise was from their footsteps as they marched seemed off.Jasper stood next to me, and didn't say a word. It's almost as if he wanted me to connect the dots on my own.As the moon started to creep through the clouds in the night sky, and its rays beamed down to illuminate the proceedings that were happening in front of us, the first man passed.Guarded by three warriors on all sides, I could tell that he was a huge man. However, despite standing at over six feet tall, it's almost as if they had cut down his ego
Maya's POVHaving to play along with everything happening with Alpha Cassian was one of the hardest things that I had to do.Back home, Declan was threatening to take down my entire family with him, if I dared to piss off Cassian. And inside Moonclaw, Cassian was moving and acting like we were supposed to be long lost mates or something. The only problem was, I would've been irritated and possessed to have tolerated a man with his character.During the dinner he invited me to, he didn't take any accountability for nearly killing one of his own.To him, as long as he didn't complete the job, he wasn't at fault. For a couple of seconds, the biggest mistake that I made was thinking that everyone could apply logical thinking in their day to day lives.I especially thought that it was going to be easier since I was dealing with the Alpha of Moonclaw, and nine other packs that he had under his rule. But no.I was dead wrong. The Night Reaper went ahead and proved to me that you could be pow
Declan's POV"Alpha, we found the trail!" One of the warriors announced as we stood on top of the hill waiting for any kind of feedback."The rogues have been cutting through our pack through the small village to the west!" He added.I couldn't believe it.Rogues! In my pack!I couldn't let that be.They needed to die! All of them.If word spread that I wasn't competent enough to have my own pack projected from trash like rogues, the five packs that were thinking of allying themselves with my pack would definitely take a step back.We needed to act fast and make sure that we got to them, before they attacked the people in the village."Take the first group and have them wait in ambush by the river. The second and third should come from the sides, and we'll come in from behind them!" I ordered the head warriors."We're going to box them and kill them where they stand!" I added with confidence."But Alpha..." "Don't just stand there! You have your orders," I thundered to my Beta, who w
Maya's POVCassian was smiling at me.I had probably kept him waiting while on the phone with Declan, and he was smiling at me!I had avoided him for close to a week, and he was smiling at me!I honestly don't think you understand what I was thinking the moment I saw his face light up when he saw me.He had his serious face on, and when I walked into the dining room, he turned and smiled. To make it worse, it was genuine!I can tell between a forced and a genuine smile. For the five years that I was with Declan, I always thought that he smiled at me genuinely. But after the divorce, while I was still trying to get over the memories and flashbacks that came to me randomly, I started to see the pattern. He always smiled with his teeth alone. And those are the times that I thought he was smiling at me, especially when we shared memorable moments. There were a few instances where he would smile, with not just his teeth, but his eyes as well. There weren't that many, except for one time wh
Maya's POV Have you ever heard someone say that their day went by like a blur and they don't recall what they did in between a few hours? That's exactly what happened to me.After learning that Cassian had given the directive for me to join him for dinner, after ignoring him for practically a week, I don't remember everything else that followed after. All I know is that my memory starts clearing up about an hour before dinner, and I was panicking.I was in my room, all alone, staring at the mirror and wondering what he was going to say or do.I knew that it was a matter of time before Cassian took action. I called that play even before it happened. And with time running out on me, I didn't know which was the better plan.Either I ignored the invite and find somewhere to hide, or join him for dinner, absolutely blind about what he could be planning to do or say.Time seemed to be on some demonic speed, because one second I was one hour away from dinner time, and the next second, I had
