The Taming of the Sun

Lyra slammed her palm onto the Ghost-Van’s external emitter, linking her neural pathways directly into the ship’s system.

She didn't just release Null—Static; She released herself.

The ground around them melted into glowing glass everywhere except for the five-meter circle where Lyra stood, shielding the Prince with her very soul.

"Lyra... stop," Valerius whispered weakly, his violet blood dripping onto the scorched ground. "It's too much... you’ll burn out."

"Let it burn," Lyra said through clenched teeth, her eyes glowing with a terrifying, silver light.

High above, the Solaris’s weapons systems began to spark. On the bridge of the Dreadnought, the Emperor’s technicians screamed as their consoles melted. The Null-Frequency wasn't just blocking the beam; it was traveling back through the energy stream, eating up the ship’s power from inside.

Then, the pressure snapped. The beam flickered and died.

Lyra collapsed.

The silver light in her eyes faded, replaced by a hollow, bone-deep exhaustion. The sky above was no longer blocked by the Dreadnought—the Solaris had been forced into an emergency warp to prevent a total core meltdown.

They were alive. For now.

"They'll be back," Valerius whispered, his nine tails pulling her into his chest. He was trembling, his strength nearly gone.

"My father... saw what you did. He knows you can neutralize the Thorne line’s power. To him, you aren't a daughter-in-law. You're a weapon of mass destruction."

Lyra let out a tired breath.

"Then let him come," Her voice cracked with exhaustion.

"I’ve spent twenty years being nothing. I’d rather be a weapon than a ghost."

A low hum vibrated through the rubble. A small, sleek Imperial shuttle—black and unmarked—descended through the smoke. It wasn't the Emperor. It wasn't the Bureau.

The hatch opened, and Captain Jaxen, Valerius’s second-in-command, stepped out.

He looked at the melted glass, the shredded assassins, and his Prince kneeling in the dirt, clinging to a woman in a torn Starlight dress.

"Commander," Jaxen said, his voice thick with awe and terror. "The fleet is breaking apart. Half the lords are calling for your head, and the other half are calling you a God for surviving that strike.”

He paused.

“What are your orders?"

Valerius looked at Lyra. He reached out, his claws gently tucking a stray hair behind her ear. The wild fury in his eyes was gone, they were cold, calculated, and utterly devoted.

"Take us to the Solis Estate," Valerius commanded.

Jaxen blinked in shock. "Sir? That’s the most vulnerable place in the sector."

"Exactly," Valerius said, a predatory smile touching his lips. "Lyra has a debt to collect. And I want the galaxy to watch while she takes it."

The flight to the estate was silent. Lyra watched the stars, while holding Valerius’s hand. She could feel his power slowly returning, a warm hum against her Null frequency.

When they arrived, the Solis Estate was already in chaos. The Face-Slap was already beginning. News of the orbital strike had reached the media, and rumors were exploding that the Solis family had discarded the Prince’s savior.

The shuttle landed directly on the manicured lawn, crushing the expensive floral arrangements Seraphina had ordered.

The doors opened.

Lyra stepped out first. She was no longer the obedient daughter. Her dress was burned and torn, her face streaked with soot, and her eyes held the coldness of deep space. Behind her, the Prince emerged, his nine tails unfurled to their full, terrifying span, his violet eyes glowing with a promise of violence.

Director Cassian and Elena Solis stood on the veranda. Kaelen stood behind them and Seraphina stood beside him pale and tense.

"Lyra!" Cassian shouted desperately, his voice cracking with a mix of fear and greed.

"Thank the stars! We... we didn't know the match was the Prince! It was a mistake! We’ve already contacted the Bureau to reinstate your status!"

Seraphina stepped forward, her eyes darting to Valerius. "Lyra, give him to us. You don't know how to handle a High-Alpha. I can take over the pairing…"

Valerius didn't let her finish. A single flick of his tail sent a shockwave that shattered the glass windows of the mansion. He stepped to Lyra’s side, his hand dropping possessively onto her shoulder.

"You speak of my mate as if she is a piece of property.” Valerius growled, the ground beneath the Solis family trembled.

"We raised her!" Elena screamed. "She owes us everything!"

Lyra stepped forward, her Null-Frequency expanding until the Solis family felt like they were standing in a vacuum. She pulled a small data-chip from her collar—the one containing the Spite Protocol."m

"Twenty years," Lyra said, her voice echoing with a power that made the Alpha Director flinch. "I balanced your books. I saved your reputation. I fixed your mistakes. Tonight, the debt is settled."

She crushed the chip in her hand.

"Unit 7, initiate the Void Sequence," Lyra whispered.

In an instant, every light in the Solis Estate went black. Every bank account, every trade contract, and every scrap of data Lyra had ever managed for them vanished into the Null-space.

"You're bankrupt," Lyra said, watching the blood drain from her father’s face. "And you're alone."

Just as Lyra turned to walk back to the shuttle, a massive holographic projection appeared above the estate. The Emperor’s face filled the sky, cold and ancient.

"Prince Valerius," the Emperor’s voice thundered across the sector. "You have chosen a Null-Frequency over your blood. By Imperial Decree, you are stripped of your title. And Lyra Solis... you are hereby declared a Galactic Outlaw.

A bounty of ten billion credits is placed on your head—dead or alive."

Kaelen and Seraphina's eyes filled with greedy excitement. They weren't looking at a sister or a fiancé anymore. They were looking at a paycheck.

"Run while you can, Lyra," Seraphina whispered, reaching for a hidden weapon. "The whole galaxy is coming for you."

Valerius pulled Lyra back into the shuttle, his tails shielding her from the sudden surge of greed from the crowd. As the hatch closed, he looked at her, his violet eyes burning with a dark, rebellious fire.

"They think a bounty will stop us," he whispered. "They don't understand something, a Fox and a Ghost have nothing left to lose."

"Wait," Lyra said, staring at her terminal. "Valerius... look at the bounty coordinates. It’s not just for me."

She pointed to the screen. The Emperor isn’t just hunting me," she whispered. "He’s erasing the entire Solis bloodline."

Her eyes widened.

“He’s coming for Seraphina and my parents, too."

Through the closing hatch, Lyra saw the first of the Emperor’s Purge-Droids landing on the veranda.

Seraphina’s scream was the last thing they heard before the shuttle blasted into the stars.
