Troubled and distressed that her parents wanted her to marry someone she doesn't even know, Dalmi caught herself swimming on the sea of liquors. She thought of one thing: To breach her parents' order by following her peers' prank: Get impregnated by the perilous, snobbish man of her fallen daydreams, Casimir Thompson. It was insane. He couldn't even lay his eyes on her and it was beyond impossible. But Casimir was the only man she wanted. She swore to herself that she'd rather get impregnated with someone she desired rather than a stranger. Will she be able to ran away from her ill-fated marriage? Will this prank be successful or will it gone wrong?
View More"What the heck do you think I am? A child?" With her ballistic voice, Dalmi hurled her bag towards the mattress.
She had been out for a night, but her parents called her and told her to go home. After being furious for a halted adventure, she was welcomed by this sudden announcement.
Her father walks near her, his hands reaching out to her thin, paper-white skin, but she moved backward and slapped his hand away. Her brows crimped, and her eyes bloodshot.
"Dalmi, we are just thinking about your future and–" triggered by his father's peeving voice, she interrupted.
"Thinking about my future, my ass! You're doing it for yourself!"
She clamps her fingers into white-knuckled vise-grips, trying to prevent more words from coming out of her lips.
"Your mouth, Dalmi! That was your dad!" Her Mom stood up and pointed at her.
"What? You are telling me to get married to a man I don't even know! How come it was alright for you?" Dalmi gritted her teeth. She was determined to explain how this idea can put her life in turmoil.
This is a mess. Dalmi thought to herself. If she knew that this would happen, then she wouldn't bother going home!
"It was for your good, Dalmi. We are aging and–"
"I am of age, and I can do whatever I want. I have my own decision now, how could you tell me that I will get tied to a...what do you call it? To a business partner?" She wasn't the type of person to disrespect and bawled at elderlies, but she can't contain her feelings.
Marriage is not something that her parents could meddle with. The picture of her in a long, white gown with a bald, rich old man made her cringe. She will never approve of this fixed marriage!
"Dalmi, we are doing this for your own good! We are getting older, and we want you to be with someone by that time!" her father insisted, but her mind doesn't want to accept petty reasons.
"Be with someone who's just as old as you?" She shook her head. She remembers her father as someone who loves her dearly. But right now, all she could see was a person with a too much greed.
"I am just 24! By this age, I should be traveling the whole world, and you should never dictate what I should do! Do I look like a teen who still needs to be guided?"
Now I know how Nikita feels about her fixed marriage. I regret encouraging her to give it a chance. It was one of the thoughts running inside her mind. Nikita is one of her Chinese friends who was a victim of that fixed marriage. She was then one of those people who encouraged her to do it. Now, she was remorseful.
"Dalmi, you should reconsider it. You need a partner! You are getting older, and we won't be here for too long." her Mom's hands touched her arms. It was warm, like it was telling her that everything was just fine.
"You can never decide on my marriage." In pure fury and dismay, Dalmi whirled around and glanced at them behind her shoulders. With her sharp, rolling eyes and firm voice, she ended, "I need no sugar daddy." and stormed out of the room.
It was only six pm, and bars are still closed. Tayla wasn't really fond of going to those nightclubs where men and women flock for a thrill but providing her situation right now, she thought, maybe it was an appropriate place for her to spend the night.
She glanced at her wristwatch and jumped inside her Cadillac. I think I will just go to Jackie's. She concluded.
"Omg, girl, don't you have manners? Don't you believe in piracy?" Jackie, her best friend, growled.
"It was privacy, Jackie. You've got a lot of money, you're a filthy rich friend of mine, but it seems like your brain is not working at all." She sarcastically answered as she slumped on his friend's mattress.
"It was a joke, alright?" He sighed and sat in an Indian position at the middle of his bed, his arms crossed as he looked down at Dalmi with his deep brown eyes.
Jackie is a man with a girl's heart. Dalmi considered him her best friend after he saved her from an attempt at sexual harassment. At first, she doesn't like him. He confessed that he would do no harm for they like both males and that she owes her something. She doesn't want to have a third sex friend, but she found him more significant than a girl's best friend after more encounters with him. He is hiding his real identity. Jack is his name whenever his dad is here, but he was Jackie almost all the time because his parents only go home thrice or twice a year.
"I got a huge problem, Jackie. I mean, my whole life is in danger, and I need to do something!" The frustration in Dalmi's voice made Jackie's forehead more scrunched up.
"If I would also have that kind of face, then I'd be really problematic." He rolled his eyes and flipped his invisible hair. "Don't bring it up anymore!"
Dalmi's face became stern. In the most severe and profound voice that she could formulate, she muttered, "I'm dead serious. I'm getting married."
"Oh? When?" He stopped laughing and glanced at me with her dreamy eyes, and after some seconds, he began shaking my shoulders.
"What the heck, Dalmi! You got yourself a freakin' boyfriend, and you didn't tell me? What? Is he handsome? Where is his gym? Is he..." he stopped shaking Dalmi and then glanced up the ceiling, his Adam's apple moved from up to down as he gulped.
"Is he good?" He shrieked with his fake, stagy voice. Dalmi closed her eyes and covered her ears, not wanting to hear more of it.
"You didn't even tell me that you have a man! That was so unfair of you–"
"I don't even know I am getting married, Jackie! It was a fixed marriage!" she groaned in frustration.
Jackie's eyes widened, his jaw fell open, and his whole face looking so dumbfounded.
"What...the? Are fixed marriages still a trend in this generation? You are already rich! Why the heck would your parents will arrange something like that?"
He stood up, patting his forehead lightly with his fingers as he paced back and forth.
"It happened to Nikita. Maybe they got the idea from her family." Dalmi hissed.
"But Nikita is Chinese! You are a Filipino and–"
"Correction, I am a half-blood," she sighed. "And they told me it was for my own good. I am 24, and they kept on telling me that I need to settle down." she shook her head and went towards his wooden cabinet, pulled out an oversized white shirt, and glanced at him with her bored eyes.
"Turn around. I'm going to change."
"Oh? Then your parents are just making moves for you! If I were you, I would get married!" He cheerfully said even when he was facing the wall.
"But you weren't me," Dalmi retorted as she removed the buttons of her cropped polo and wore his oversized, white shirt.
"And I don't believe them. I know my parents; they just want to expand our business."
After she was done changing, he made Jackie turn around. He sat at the edge of the bed and glanced at her with his brows furrowed.
"But what if the groom is handsome?" he asked, almost making Dalmi puke at his hilarious question.
"But what if he was a bald, old man?" she raised her left brow and crossed her arms.
His face turned sour, and then he made some moves like what he imagined was so cringy.
"I need your help. We need to stop my parents and get my freedom back," she uttered in a firm voice and started to walk towards him.
Hi. This is the end of the story. Thank you for reading!EpilogueCarden Thompson’s POV“And the winner of this competition is….” the drum rolls made my heart thump fast. My eyes were too focused on the contestants that lined up on the stage as I watched how Cadmus Thompson waved his arm while holding a trophy by his hand.Holding my wife’s hand beside me, I dragged her towards the stage and stood beside my little boy as the official photographer’s camera flashed multiple times. The flashes were shocking, but endurable enough. We are inside Cadmus’ school in Chicago and he joined a poster making contest. I hadn’t thought about it much, but out of all the talents he could have
Chapter 143: When They Thought Things were fixed “This is why I don’t trust you, Carden. I don’t want my child to marry someone as incompetent as you.” The way the old lady said it to him felt like it was a dagger sent to his chest. To hear his wife’s mother those words were too painful to swallow, and his mind couldn't accept. “You...don’t trust me? Auntie, I was just worried about my son!” “Because you know you cannot protect him! You know you can’t protect your family because you are incompetent! I already knew you are that kind of man when I met you!” Carden had never thought that Dalmi’s mother could be like this. Never in his entire life, he had imagined for one of the
Chapter 142: I Didn’t Know You Can Do ThatDalmi’s whole body froze. Cold sweat numbed her fingers, and her heart hammered fast.“D-Denver is w-what?” as if she suddenly became deaf, she tapped her ears with her hands.“D-Denver is missing, Dalmi-”“How the hell would that happen, Carden? You were with him!” she yelled when it dawned on her. She was expecting the man to deny it, or to say that he was just joking and would laugh, but she was wrong! Her eyes turned sharp, and her cheeks burned in anger. “Tell me you are joking right now, Carden! Bring him to me or you’ll never want to experience my anger!&rd
Chapter 141: Where is He?“Mommy! When will Daddy come to pick us up?” Denver pouted his lips and forcibly leaned his back on the couch. It was a Saturday morning and Carden was promised to bring him to the mall and play.It has been a month since that night, and everything was going smoothly. She thought the man was just joking and that he only said it to her because they finished making love, but after a week, with a velvet box and diamond ring in his hand, he proposed to her.It was the second time that they will get married but at that very moment, it felt like it was the first...and it really was. Because they started at a forced marriage and although they had an engagement, there was no love and meaning behind it compared to how it was at that time.Until now, she couldn't believe that she would once again marry Carden Thompson. In a span of a week, the preparations started. The first week became busier than she thought, for it was the t
Chapter 140Carden crossed his arms as he leaned his back at the wall. It was past eleven, and Denver and Dalmi were already in a deep slumber; however, he still couldn’t get himself to sleep. He was standing on Dalmi’s veranda, his back leaning on the wall and his eyes gazing at the deep, night sky. His disheveled hair kept on dancing with the cold wind as if it was upbeat music that won’t stop his hair from moving sideways, but he didn’t mind, for the only thing he wanted right now was to enjoy the peacefulness of the night.Up until now, he still couldn't believe that everything was falling into their right places. Denver accepted him as his father, he and Dalmi were fine...and they’re gonna sleep on the same roof tonight. It felt nostalgic and surreal, like a dream...and he was scared it might be taken away once he wakes up tomorrow because he didn’t want to fall asleep.“I thought you were asleep,” he s
Chapter 139Carden Thompson’s eyes widened when the kid held on to the hem of his shirt.“Are you going to go here again tomorrow?” he asked with his puppy eyes, as though he was telling him to say yes.Did Carden hear it right? Did Denver really call him his daddy or he was just dreaming?“Can you...can you repeat what you just said earlier?” he said. His eyes are still wide from the shock as he glimpsed at Dalmmi who also mirrored what he felt right now.Ecstasy, shock, disbelief...all of it was mixed up in his heart that he didn't know how he would react.“I am asking if you wil
Chapter 138“Mommy! Someone ate my Banana Split!” Denver cried and gripped the white comforter. Tears cascading down his chubby cheeks as his face reddened in anger.“I asked Yaya Linda to find it in the refrigerator but she said there was nothing!”No matter how she tried to act like she was sad about his loss, she couldn't. The kid just said that he didn’t like it in front of Carden, now that he was gone, he was searching for it?“I thought you don’t like it? Why are you asking Yaya to find it for you?” She wanted to laugh, but she knew her child would cry more if she did so she just touched his hair, pushing it upwards to see the whole of his face.
Chapter 137Dalmi’s jaw dropped when she saw how Denver put the spoon down and crossed his arms like a grown-up man. The kid, who obviously looked like he enjoyed the first two scoops when he was tasting it, now looked as though he had tasted the worst banana split he ever had.“I-is he serious?” She shifted her gaze towards Carden who just picked up the spoon and sat at the seat where Denver sat earlier. He picked a portion of the desert and acted as if she was now in front of him.“Carden! Aren’t you offended that your child didn’t like what you did?” she furrowed her brows. If her son was already weird, she already knew that he got it from his father. Instead of thinking as to why Denver had to walk out, he just eats the leftovers! She glared at him.“Why? Should I be sad that Denver walked out?”“Yes! He just said he doesn’t like it!” she retorted and crossed her arms.
Chapter 136“No! Papa Johannes is my father!” the kid’s yell made Dalmi go back to reality. She was then, in gape and shock of the sudden revelation earlier, and seeing how her son ran away from them made her heart hurt.“Denver!” She called and was about to chase after him when he realized that Craden didn’t stand up and that he was still standing on his knees.“Carden, I’m sorry... i'll try to talk to him and explain things,” she said in a troubled voice and sighed. “I told you we can’t just say this to him in a rush, I know Denver would freak out…” she shook her head. But the man just let out a burst of low laughter before he stood up and clapped his hand to clear off the dust.“I don’t want to lie, Dalmi...I am hurt, but I will never give up on him. I promise I will wash off every memory from that man until he accepts me as his father.”That
