The rain had not stopped.

It clung to the glass walls of the penthouse like tears that refused to fall. The city lights below blurred into streaks of gold and red, glowing through the storm like distant fire.

Isabella stood by the tall window, wrapped in a silk robe she did not remember putting on. Her hair was still damp from the shower. Her mind, however, was nowhere near calm.

Behind her, the penthouse felt too quiet.

Too big.

Too full of him.

The words from the night before still echoed in her chest.

"You don’t belong to him anymore."

The way Alexander had said it had not sounded like comfort.

It had sounded like ownership.

She wrapped her arms around herself.

The truth was something she had not yet admitted, even to herself.

Part of her had not hated the way he said it.

A sudden knock broke the silence.

She turned.

The door opened slowly, and the housekeeper stepped inside, pushing a silver trolley.

“Miss Morgan,” the older woman said gently. “Mr. Blackwood asked that you eat something.”

Isabella blinked.

“He asked?”

“Yes.”

The trolley held a full breakfast spread — eggs, fresh fruit, toast, coffee.

Too much.

Way too much.

“I’m not hungry,” Isabella said.

The housekeeper hesitated.

Then she lowered her voice.

“Mr. Blackwood does not like it when people refuse his instructions.”

Isabella frowned.

That sounded exactly like him.

“Thank you,” she sighed. “You can leave it.”

The woman gave a small nod and quietly left the room.

The door closed.

Isabella stared at the food for a moment.

Then she sat down.

The coffee smelled rich and warm. She lifted the cup and took a sip.

It helped.

Just a little.

But the moment of peace didn’t last long.

Because the door opened again.

And Alexander Blackwood walked in.

Isabella froze.

He looked different this morning.

He wore a charcoal suit that looked like it had been tailored directly onto his body. His hair was still slightly damp, pushed back casually, as if he had just come from the shower.

But it wasn’t the clothes that made her heart jump.

It was the way he looked at her.

The same intense gaze.

Like he had been thinking about her all night.

Alexander walked deeper into the room, his footsteps slow and controlled.

“You’re awake,” he said.

Isabella set down her cup.

“You’re very observant.”

His lips twitched slightly.

He moved toward the table and glanced at the food.

“You barely touched it.”

She folded her arms.

“I told the housekeeper I wasn’t hungry.”

Alexander pulled out the chair across from her and sat down.

His presence immediately filled the entire room.

“You will eat,” he said calmly.

It wasn’t a suggestion.

It was an order.

Isabella raised an eyebrow.

“Excuse me?”

“You heard me.”

He picked up a slice of toast and slid it across the table toward her.

“Eat.”

Her eyes widened.

“Do you always treat people like employees?”

“Only when they behave like stubborn children.”

Her jaw tightened.

“I am not a child.”

Alexander leaned back slightly, studying her like a puzzle.

“No,” he murmured.

“You’re much more dangerous than that.”

Her stomach flipped unexpectedly.

She hated the way he said things that sounded like compliments and threats at the same time.

Isabella reluctantly picked up the toast and took a small bite.

Alexander watched.

Satisfied.

Silence filled the room again.

Finally she spoke.

“Why am I still here?”

Alexander didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he poured himself coffee.

Black.

No sugar.

No cream.

He took a sip.

Then he looked at her.

“Because it’s safer.”

“For who?” she asked.

“For you.”

Isabella laughed softly.

“That’s funny.”

His eyes darkened.

“You think I’m joking?”

She leaned forward.

“You locked me in a penthouse guarded by security.”

“Yes.”

“You told my ex he couldn’t touch me.”

“Yes.”

“And now you’re forcing me to eat breakfast.”

“Yes.”

She stared at him.

“That doesn’t sound like safety.”

Alexander’s expression didn’t change.

“It’s exactly what safety looks like.”

Her heart skipped.

The calmness in his voice was unsettling.

“From now on,” he continued, “Daniel Cross will not come near you.”

She frowned.

“You can’t control that.”

“I already have.”

Her stomach tightened.

“What did you do?”

Alexander tilted his head slightly.

“Nothing illegal.”

“That’s not reassuring.”

He smiled faintly.

“You worry too much.”

She stared at him.

“No,” she said slowly.

“I think I worry the right amount when a billionaire with control issues decides to interfere in my life.”

Alexander chuckled quietly.

“Control issues.”

“Yes.”

“You say that like it’s an insult.”

“It is.”

He leaned forward.

“Isabella.”

Her name on his lips sounded dangerous.

“You walked into my office yesterday asking for help.”

“I asked for a job.”

“You asked for protection.”

She opened her mouth.

Then closed it.

He wasn’t wrong.

Alexander stood up.

The sudden movement made her heart jump again.

He walked slowly around the table.

Closer.

Closer.

Until he stopped right beside her chair.

Isabella felt her pulse quicken.

“You made a deal with me,” he said softly.

“I never agreed to a deal.”

“You will.”

Her breath caught.

“Why are you so sure?”

Alexander leaned down slightly.

His voice dropped to a whisper near her ear.

“Because you’re desperate.”

The words hit harder than she expected.

Her chest tightened.

But before she could respond

Alexander placed something on the table in front of her.

A thin black folder.

Isabella frowned.

“What’s that?”

“Your solution.”

Her fingers hesitated before opening it.

Inside was a document.

A contract.

Her eyes scanned the first line.

Then the second.

And suddenly her heart started racing.

She looked up at him.

“What is this?”

Alexander met her gaze.

His expression was calm.

Too calm.

“It’s a marriage contract.”

The room seemed to spin.

“A what?”

“A temporary arrangement,” he said smoothly.

“You marry me.”

Her mind exploded.

“Are you insane?”

“For one year.”

She pushed the folder away.

“No.”

Alexander didn’t move.

“You’ll get protection,” he continued.

“Money.”

“Freedom from Daniel.”

“No.”

“Your debts disappear.”

She stood up abruptly.

“I said no.”

The air between them grew thick.

Alexander slowly walked toward her.

Step by step.

Until she was forced to look up at him.

“You didn’t read the rest,” he said quietly.

“I don’t need to.”

“Yes, you do.”

He gently slid the folder back toward her.

Against her better judgment…

Isabella glanced down again.

Her eyes landed on the final clause.

And suddenly her blood ran cold.

She whispered the words out loud.

“The wife must remain exclusively under Alexander Blackwood’s protection and authority during the duration of the marriage.”

Her head snapped up.

“Authority?”

Alexander’s eyes burned into hers.

“Yes.”

“That sounds like ownership.”

His voice was low.

Dangerously calm.

“It is.”

Her breath caught.

“Why would I ever agree to something like this?”

Alexander stepped closer.

Close enough that she could feel his warmth.

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“Because if you don’t…”

He paused.

Then finished the sentence.

“Daniel Cross won’t be the worst man hunting you.”

Isabella froze.

Her heart slammed in her chest.

“What do you mean… hunting me?”

Alexander didn’t answer.

He simply stared at her.

And the look in his eyes said one terrifying thing.

He knew something she didn’t.

And whatever it was...

It was coming for her.

The courtyard no longer felt like a battlefield. It felt like the aftermath of something that had finally reached its end.The tension that once pressed in from every direction had loosened. The men who had surrounded the space stood back now, uncertain, no longer driven by command or certainty. Victor remained where he was, silent, watching, but no longer in control. For the first time since all of this beganEverything was still. But the stillness didn’t feel empty. It felt earned.Alexander stood in front of Isabella, close enough that nothing else mattered. Not the damage around them. Not the eyes still watching. Not the past that had brought them here.Just this moment.Just her.Just the truth he had finally spoken. The air between them was different now.No tension. No force. No control.Only choice.Isabella studied him quietly. Not the man he had been when he first stepped into her life. Not the one who controlled every outcome, who made decisions for her, who kept truths hid

  • Bound by a billion hearts   Episode 149 The Moment He Finally Tells the Truth

The shift was undeniable.Victor felt it in the first second after Alexander moved again. Not just faster. Not just stronger.Different.The hesitation that had been there moments ago had disappeared completely, replaced by something far more dangerous. There was no split focus anymore, no divided instinct pulling him between the fight and the woman behind him.He had become singular.Locked in.Certain.Victor blocked the first strike, but the impact traveled through his arm, forcing him to take half a step back. It was small, almost unnoticeable, but it was the first time he had been pushed since the fight began. His eyes sharpened.“Interesting,” he murmured.Alexander didn’t respond. He moved again. This time the attack came from a different angle, faster, tighter, designed not to overwhelm but to break structure. Victor countered, but the rhythm had changed. He wasn’t controlling the pace anymore. He was keeping up.Barely.Isabella stood where she had placed herself, her breathi

  • Bound by a billion hearts   Episode 148 The Moment the Truth Stops Hurting

The courtyard felt smaller now.Not because the walls had moved.Because everything inside it had shifted. The balance. The control. The outcome that once seemed inevitable.Victor saw it.Of course he did.The moment Alexander stopped fighting like a man with nothing to lose and started moving like a man who refused to lose anything at all. That difference mattered. It changed everything.Isabella felt it too, even as Daniel pulled her back toward the edge of the courtyard. Her body protested with every step, pain radiating from where the hit had landed, but she didn’t slow him down.Didn’t tell him to stop.Because she knew. This part mattered.Distance didn’t mean separation. Not anymore. Her eyes never left Alexander. And he didn’t look away for long either.Even as he moved.Even as he fought. There was a connection now that didn’t break just because space existed between them.Daniel guided her behind a low concrete barrier, positioning himself slightly in front of her.“You sta

  • Bound by a billion hearts   Episode 147 The Moment He Refuses to Let Her Break

The world narrowed to the space between them.Everything else fell away. The noise. The movement. The fight that still raged around them.None of it mattered in that single, suspended moment where Isabella’s weight pressed into him and her breath came uneven against his chest.Alexander didn’t think.Didn’t calculate.Didn’t plan.He just reacted. His arms tightened around her, steadying her before she could fall further, his body instinctively shielding hers as another attacker moved too close. He didn’t even look. The response was immediate.Brutal.Efficient.The man hit the ground before the motion fully registered. But Alexander’s attention never left her.Not now.Not anymore.“Look at me.”His voice came low.Controlled.But there was something under it now.Something sharp.Something that refused to break.Isabella’s eyes lifted slowly. The pain was there.Clear.Undeniable.But so was something else.Something stronger.“I told you not to do that,” he said. The words came out

  • Bound by a billion hearts   Episode 146 The Moment He Chooses to Fall

The silence before it broke felt heavier than the fight that came before it.Not empty. Not calm.Waiting.Victor stood across from them, his expression composed, his posture relaxed in a way that didn’t match the tension pressing in from every side. The men who had surrounded the courtyard had pulled back just enough to give space. Not out of mercy.Out of certainty. This was the part he wanted to see.The part he had been building toward.Isabella felt it settle into her bones. This wasn’t about numbers anymore. This wasn’t about strategy. This was personal. Her breath slowed, her pulse steadying as she stepped slightly forward, placing herself just enough in front of Alexander to make a point. He noticed immediately.“You don’t stand in front of me,” he said quietly. Not harsh. Not controlling. But firm. Her eyes didn’t leave Victor.“Then stop giving me a reason to.”A faint flicker crossed his expression. Not irritation.Something deeper.Something he didn’t say.Victor’s smile w

  • Bound by a billion hearts   Episode 145 The Moment Everything Breaks Open

The first impact came fast.Too fast for hesitation.Too fast for fear. One of Victor’s men lunged toward Isabella from the side, his movement sharp and direct, aiming to cut her off before she could reposition.Daniel intercepted him immediately. The clash was brutal. Not controlled. Not measured.Raw force meeting raw force.Isabella didn’t stop.Didn’t freeze. Her body moved on instinct, stepping back just enough to avoid the second man closing in behind her. She pivoted, her awareness sharp, every nerve focused on survival. But even in the chaosHer eyes searched for him.Alexander.And when she found himHe was already moving. Not reacting.Leading.His presence cut through the courtyard like something unstoppable. Every movement precise, efficient, calculated. He wasn’t just fighting. He was dismantling. Two men came at him at once.He didn’t step back.Didn’t hesitate. The first one barely got close before Alexander redirected his momentum, sending him crashing into the concret

The gunshot didn’t echo.It cut.Sharp and immediate, tearing through the narrow hallway and slamming into the wall inches from Isabella. The second hit was harder. The door shuddered violently, the frame groaning under the pressure. Dust fell from the edges, fine and sharp, drifting into the air like a warning. No one spoke. They didn’t need to.The situation had already decided itself.Isabella stood a few steps back now, her pulse

The name didn’t echo.It didn’t need to.It settled into the room like something heavy and unavoidable.Isabella didn’t move. Not immediately. Her eyes stayed on the door, her breathing controlled, her thoughts sharpening instead of scattering.Alexander.Of course it was him.Not the men hunting h
