~JESSICA~
The loud music from the club almost burst my eardrums.
Geez! How do people cope here with the noise and everything?? So much for coming to a club!
I should have just stayed at home and had a good sleep.
“Stop deceiving yourself, Jessy. It's not like you'll be able to sleep at home” I silently said and rolled my eyes.
As usual, Grace was the center of attention and almost every guy wanted to talk to her there. I watched as she hugged people she knew, laughing beautifully while I stood there like a statue.
Her eyes fell on my face and she waved with her fingers for me to come closer. I shook my head negatively, politely refusing.
I wasn't ready for some introductions. And so, I turned and made my way to a seat at the bar counter.
I sat on it and took a quick glance around the club. The lights were almost blinding my eyes, so I had to squint my eyes to be able to grasp a look at my surroundings.
The small club was almost crowded with people, most especially young boys and girls like Grace and they're all dancing.
“Oh yeah, you're talking like you aren't young yourself” I berated myself.
I was just twenty two while Grace was eighteen.
Grace was right, my dress was the longest tonight as all the other girls were putting on really short, sexy dresses and they're all looking so beautiful.
I must really look like a primary school teacher as Grace said.
The club wasn't a big one, or a club where the rich go to. It was a sub standard small club that wasn't expensive. Reason why high school students had the money to be here.
“Good evening, ma'am. Do you want something to drink??” a male voice asked me and I turned to face him.
“Yeah, anything that has enough alcoholic content in it. Any drink not more than $30” I replied as I didn't know what drink to take. I rarely take alcoholic drinks.
He turned and walked away and I searched carefully for Grace with my eyes and I saw her dancing with some group of girls.
Thank goodness it's girls! I would have gone to drag her out if she's dancing with so many boys like that.
I turned and faced the counter, then I felt someone tap me on my back.
It's Grace with all smiles on her face.
“Come on, Sis, let's dance,” she said. She's literally screaming because of the loud music playing.
“I don't feel like it. Besides, you know I don't know how to dance” I screamed back.
“I'll teach you” she said and began pulling my hands but I pulled back and shook my head.
“Stop being so stuck up and serious. Come, let's dance” she persisted.
“No, thanks. I already ordered drinks” I said. “Go enjoy yourself”
She frowned and pouted her lips, then walked back to her friends and resumed dancing.
The bartender brought me a full bottle of an alcoholic drink and a glass cup and I began drinking. It wasn't long when I started feeling tipsy.
But I kept on drinking and lamenting and crying my eyes out as I remembered everything that happened during the day.
My really drowsy and tipsy eyes caught sight of a man standing close to me with another man beside him.
“This is the club I'm going to buy….” Part of their conversation reached my ears before I zoned out and placed my head on the counter table.
When I raised my head up, I caught sight of the man who's standing beside me now staring curiously and weirdly at me with a funny look on his face. A teasing, mocking look!
How long has he been staring at me like that??
“You…” I pointed my fingers at him. “What are you staring at??”
He didn't bat an eyelid at me but kept staring.
“You bastard…why the hell are you staring at me…. like that?” I slurred.
The alcohol was taking effect on me already and I couldn't stop myself even if I wanted to.
“What are you looking at?? You men are just the same. Bunch of betrayals, bunch of heartbreakers. You all are scums, dirty pieces of trash. Stop staring at me, the fuck!!” I screamed loudly and began hitting his chest hard with my fist.
I saw him raise his hand as if he's stopping someone and stood, allowing me to hit him.
“Liars. All of you are liars. I pray you all men rot in hell. I pray you all burn in ashes. You all men shouldn't have been born” I yelled drunkenly and kept hitting him.
People were starting to watch and I felt someone starting to drag me.
“Sis, what the hell are you doing??” I heard Grace yell at me.
My eyes were already closing and I was slowly losing consciousness.
“I'm so sorry, Sir. She's drunk and doesn't know what she's doing. I'm so sorry, Sir” I heard Grace apologize to the man.
I was still muttering inaudible cuss words as Grace dragged me out of the club. It was outside the club that I collapsed on Grace's arms as I finally lost consciousness.

I was walking around the club with my escort, Mister Anthony. We're checking out the new property that would soon be mine.
I own a multinational business and have my finger in property development on five continents. Sutherland enterprises—is an enormously successful property development business.
I buy properties I so desire and renovate to my taste or sell it off whenever I want to. And so I heard of this club in this rural area in America and I drove down from California to take a good look at it before buying it.
It was on the tour round the club that I saw a nerd looking lady drinking heavily at the bar counter. I was amused at the lengthy dress she wore, the sandals she wore, the glasses on her face and the way her hair was tied up. An inappropriate dressing for a club.
She's looking funny and with a grin on my face, I stood staring at her as she's fascinating to watch. I was really surprised when she began to yell at me and spat out cuss words from her mouth and was shocked when she started to hit me on my chest.
Her outburst showed that she's suffering from a heartbreak and letting it out on me and so I stopped Mister Anthony when he wanted to interfere. I allowed her to hit me if it would ease the pain in her heart.
A reason why I'm against love, why I hated love so much. Love is a terrible feeling that will hurt and break you and leave you in so much pain and misery.
One look at her and I was reminded again and again never to fall in love- never ever.
A young lady came towards us and apologized to me as she dragged the drunk lady out of the club. I was still staring at the exit of the club when Mister Anthony called back my attention to him.
“Sir, are you okay??” He asked me.
“Yes, I'm fine,” I replied.
“I'm buying the club” I announced and he nodded.
“I'll make the necessary arrangements, Sir” he replied.
With one long, last look at the club, I walked out of the club still replaying the incident that just happened in my head, and someone, I had a feeling that I was going to meet her again.
~DANIEL~ Last night, before I left the company, I had called and instructed my private investigator to find out everything about Jessica Adams. And within an hour later, he had sent everything I needed to know about her to my phone.Aged twenty four.Lost her birth mom when she's ten from a critical illness.Studied business management and commerce at Minot state university.Graduated at the age of twenty two.Graduated with a first class honor.Worked in a few places after graduation but went back to being unemployed again.Lost her dad from a car accident.Has a Stepmom and stepsister. Her boyfriend of three years just ended things with her.Stepmom is gravely in and her life is in danger.I got interested in the part where I read that her stepmom is sick.Poor girl! She's been through a lot.Witnessing her mother's and father's death must have been so heartbreaking for her, and now her stepmom is seriously ill too.“Find out the name of the hospital
~JESSICA~The hospital smelled of antiseptic and worry. I ran through the double doors, my shoes hitting against the cold tiles, heart thudding wildly in my chest.“Miss Adams?” a nurse called, waving me over.“Yes….I'm here. What's going on?” I asked, almost out of breath.“It’s your stepmom,” she said gently. “Her condition worsened. The doctor wants to speak with you.”I didn’t realize I’d been holding my breath until I was ushered into a quiet consultation room, where Dr. Spence stood waiting. His expression told me everything.“She’s stable for now,” he began, “but Jessica, the time is running out.”I sat down hard.“I’ve contacted every possible agency,” he said softly. “But the procedure... it’s expensive. You’ll need to make arrangements soon, or we may have to consider transferring her to public care.”No. Not Sarah. Not in a system that would treat her like a number.“I’ll get the money,” I said, voice cracking. “I promise.”“Be fast about it. Take a
~DANIEL~I slammed the door after Miss Adams bolted from the office, her retreating figure disappearing into the night. My hand remained on the doorknob, frozen, as I tried to process what just happened. How dare she run out like that?I strode back to my desk, every step laced with anger. I should fire her. On the spot. No one—no one—had ever walked out on me like that, not without consequences. But as I sat down and stared at the abandoned reports she was supposed to organize, I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the phone and make the call to HR.Something about the look on her face… something urgent. It wasn't a rebellion. It was fear and desperation.I sighed and leaned back, rubbing my temples. Then came the knock.A soft rap on the door before it creaked open. My lawyer, Edward Lane, stepped in, his salt-and-pepper hair glinting under the light. He looked like he had aged a decade in the last two days.“You should have called to let me know that you're c
~JESSICA~The air in the office seemed to grow colder by the second. His piercing gaze pinned me to the spot, leaving no room for escape. I clenched the strap of my bag tightly, my mind scrambling for something—anything—to say.Daniel Sutherland. The man whose sharp suit only emphasized his raw authority. His broad shoulders filled the space with an intimidating presence, and the angular features of his face radiated a quiet fury. How had I not realized it sooner?“Miss Adams, wasn’t it?” he said, his tone clipped, dragging me out of my panic-induced haze.“Yes, sir,” I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. His lips curved into a sardonic smile, but there was no amusement in his eyes. “Of all the applicants in the world, fate really had to pick you.”I swallowed hard. “Sir, if you’ll let me explain….”“Explain?” He raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms over his chest. “Oh, please, by all means. Explain how slapping the CEO of Sutherland Enterprises qualifies y
~JESSICA~ “Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” Grace's alarm rang on a Monday morning and I groaned out loudly in frustration. It's an alarm she set to enable her to wake up early and prepare for school.I just started sleeping after staying all night applying for jobs and now, the alarm is disturbing my sleep.“Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” the alarm rang again and I felt like smashing the alarm clock to the wall. I mean, I just started sleeping and this alarm chose the right time to wake me up.Grace was still fast asleep. She's sleeping through the alarm and it got me pissed. How dare she sleep through the alarm she set herself while I can't sleep??And so, I tapped her and shook her on the bed roughly.“Get your ass off the bed and go prepare for school” I yelled. “And oh, please do well to off that alarm or else I smash it to the wall”She stuck out her tongue sleepily at me and stretched her hands to turn off the alarm, then resumed sleeping again.I sighed, she's always lik
~JESSICA~I sat in the hospital waiting room, trying to hold myself together. My stepmother, Sarah, was lying in a hospital bed, fighting for her life. The events at Albert’s house replayed in my mind like a broken record. I had lost him, my best friend, and whatever shred of dignity I had left. But I couldn’t fall apart—not yet. Sarah needed me.The weight if everything pressed down on me and because I was feeling really sleepy and tired, mentally and emotionally stressed, and didn't want to think about anything for the moment, I forced myself to sleep.“Miss Adams?”“Miss Adams??” I heard someone call tentatively and my head shot up immediately. I blinked away the heaviness of sleep as I adjusted my glasses and stared sleepily at the nurse standing in front of me.“Miss Adams??” The nurse called again.“Yes, I am Jessica Adams” I replied and she made a brief nod.“The doctor wants to see you in his office” she informed me.“Sure, let's go” I replied and adju
~JESSICA~ The rays of the sunlight entered the room and shone brightly on my face. Silently, I cussed out Grace for opening the curtains while I'm still sleeping.I opened my eyes and closed them immediately as the sunlight rays almost blinded me. Weakly, I drew the curtains close and sat up before opening my eyes again. It was then my hangover hit me hard and I quickly held my head in pain. My head was banging so bad. It's as if drummers were playing loud and hard drums on my head.“Arghhh. My head hurts” I groaned out in pain, still holding my head in my palm.I couldn't even turn my head properly without feeling pain. Grace wasn't in the room either to help out.Yes, we share a room.Thankfully, I saw a glass of clean water and some pills on the table beside the bed. Grace must have kept it there. She's such a sweetheart!I painfully drew closer and closer to the table still sitting on the bed, till my hands were finally able to reach the water

~JESSICA~“Damn that Albert! He's a fucking scum of a man and he's not even worth your tears. He's not even worth you. It's his loss baby girl. He lost!” Grace, my step sister, said angrily after I told her I caught my boyfriend of three years cheating on me with my best friend.“And Isabella is a snake! That snake! That sneaky bitch! I knew it, I suspected she didn't really like you. She just got close to you so she can have access to Albert. That fucking snake!” Grace lashed out at Isabella too.“I feel so broken and hurt. I thought he really loved me but he's just using me. He said it to my face that he's just using me. I shouldn't have gone to his house without his notice and I wouldn't have seen him with Isabella” I lamented.“So you prefer to keep being in the dark while they have fun and laugh at you behind your back?? Look, it's a good thing you found out already. It's time for you to move on with your life. I never liked Albert for you anyway, he's too
