Ava’s POV

These days I'm always at the training ground, training hard, because I need to get stronger.

I was about to go another round with the dummies when Kane’s shadow fell over me.

“You need to come with me,” he said. His voice was calm but there was something tense under it.

I straightened, wiping the sweat from my forehead. “What’s wrong?”

“We can't talk here.” He turned, already walking toward the pack house.

I followed him, wondering what was going on.

When we reached his office, he closed the door behind us. The room felt smaller suddenly, his presence filling every corner. He stood by the table, his arms crossed, his eyes were fixed on me.

“What happened?” I asked, my voice a whisper.

Kane’s jaw flexed. “Bloodfang came.”

I froze. The air in the room seemed to vanish. “What?”

“Your old pack, they were survivors. They crossed into our borders today.” His eyes never left mine. “They said rogues destroyed their lands, so they came here asking for shelter.”
