The healing center was busier than usual today, which meant I did not have time to think about the ball or the twins or the bond. That was fine with me.

I spent the morning grinding herbs under the watchful eye of the senior healers, my fingers stained green and my back aching from bending over the worktable. The girl on the cot near the window had come in with her mother, both of them looking lost and frightened. Her wolf had not spoken to her in weeks. Deaf, they thought or maybe just sleeping

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   Luna White

The knock came before sunrise. It was soft but loud enough to be heard."Come in."Gertha entered, and behind her two maids carried something between them. They laid it across the bed and proceeded to open the curtains. It was a cream white gown. The fabric caught the little light rays that slipped in from the windows and gave it back. Silver thread ran through the hem and bodice in patterns that seemed to move when I blinked. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever been this close to."Luna white," Gertha said. "For formal presentations before the Council."I looked at her. "Who sent it? The queen?"She met my eyes. "It was prepared for you, my lady.""That is not what I asked."There was a pause. Something moved across her face. "No," she said. "It is not."She said nothing further.I stared at her for a moment. She did not look away, but she did not speak either. Her silence was loud enough and I understood then that she would not tell me.I let it go. There were more important

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   The Second Brother's Kiss

Gertha, she had told me in a whisper as we left the library, was her name. She walked ahead, holding a small candle, her steps light as a feather, the steps of someone who had learned long ago how to move without being noticed.I followed her in silence. The corridors up here were quieter than the ones below, the torches set further apart so that the light came in pools with stretches of shadow between them. The paintings on these walls were smaller, more private somehow.I was still reeling from the library. Not from his nearness or his scent or the moment when the air had gone still between us. But from his words and the way he had laughed at me.I pressed my lips together and kept my legs moving."First time in the palace?" Gertha asked, her voice barely above a murmur."Is it that obvious?""You have been looking at every single painting like it stole something of yours. Most guests stop doing that by the third corridor."I almost smiled despite myself. We turned a corner and the c

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   I Did Not Look Back

Lucian stood in the doorway for a moment longer than necessary, like a tree planted there. His eyes roamed over me in the unhurried way of someone who had already decided they had all the time in the world. Then he moved slowly, deliberately, giving me time to watch him.He did not come toward me. He simply moved to the side of the room, his hands clasped loosely behind his back, and looked at the shelves as though something there required his attention. We both knew he was stalling."You handled my sister well," he said. There was something in his voice. The faintest curl of amusement, so slight that if I had not been fixated on him I would have missed it entirely."It does not feel like I handled anything," I said. "She said what she wanted to say and then she left.""That is precisely what I mean." He glanced at me sideways. "Most people crumble within the first two minutes. You lasted the whole conversation."It could have been a compliment or an observation. With Lucian, I was beg

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   Elara Valerius

The footman led me through corridor after corridor. His long legs carried him in huge strides, leaving me struggling to keep up with his pace.In spite of this, I tried my very best to take in as much of the beauty that stood around me as I possibly could. The palace grounds were nothing like I had imagined, which was to say they were worse, in the way that beautiful things are when you are standing inside them and you know, you are fully aware, that you do not belong. From the moment I had stepped through the imposing, well-secured eastern gates, I was startled. First by the stone fountain that caught the last of the evening light and reflected it back in colourful fragments. Everything was meticulously placed in a manner that each complemented the other, intentional, by someone who had the luxury of deciding where things went.Marble floors, polished to a mirror shine, reflected the flickering torchlight.I quickened my pace as we moved through the well-lit corridors. High ceilings a

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   The Summons

He did not smile nor speak, he simply held out a letter. The envelope was a thick cream-coloured paper, sealed with blood-red wax stamped with the Valerius crest. My name was written across the front in clean black ink.Ophelia.I stretched out my hands to take it."You are expected at the palace tomorrow evening," the guard said. His voice was flat and practiced, the voice of a man who delivered messages for a living and felt no attachment to their contents. "Sunset at the eastern gate. Do not be late."He dipped his head once. Then turned and walked away, his boots crisp against the stone path, and disappeared into the dusk without looking back.I stayed rooted in the doorway holding the letter. The evening air swirled around me, carrying the smell of woods and the distant shouts of children being called inside for supper. It was an ordinary evening in Ashen Ridge, everything was exactly as it had always been.Except for the letter in my hands.I heard my mother's feet shuffle agains

  • Bound to the Alpha Twins   When Will You Speak?

The soft thunk of the knife against the wooden board filled the kitchen as I cut the vegetables. The fire crackled behind me and the evening light slipped quietly through the window.I did not need to turn around to know my mother was watching. She leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed, a half smile playing on her lips. Her somewhat grey hair fell loosely to her shoulders and she wore the same worn dress she always wore. Nothing fancy, it was never anything fancy."You've been quiet," she said."I'm always quiet.""You know what I mean," she sighed.I kept my eyes on the vegetables. She pushed off from the frame and walked to the table, dropping into a chair loudly, the way she did everything when she wanted to be noticed."So," she said, dragging the word out. "Are you going to tell me, or do I have to guess?""Tell you what exactly?"She snorted. "Girl, the whole of Ashen Ridge is buzzing. Even the fishes know. You and the Alpha twins." She leaned forward, her eyes brigh
