Henry’s POV

I pinched my nose, the stench clawing at my senses. The sight of the body beneath the black tarpaulin was enough to unsettle anyone.

“How long did the forensic team say she’d been in the septic tank?” I asked.

“Three weeks,” an officer replied. “We suspect the killer kept her hidden elsewhere, then returned to dump her here.”

“Three weeks??.” The thought made my stomach churn.

Whoever did this wasn’t reckless, they were careful. That fact alone sent chills down my body, mo

Camelia POVHenry held my hands and led me down from the podium toward the door. I didn’t mind the muttered words trailing behind us as I walked. All I could see was what lay ahead.Reporters filled the entrance, bodies pressed together and cameras hovering everywhere. For a moment, I slowed, taking it all in.“Was all of this… really for me?”A strange feeling of being important settled in my chest. I had never imagined this….never pictured myself standing before a crowd of reporters, being the one they called out to, the one they waited for. It wasn’t something I had ever done, or even dreamed of doing. It felt unreal.Like a dream I hadn’t prepared for.“Ms. Camelia! Can we have a few words?”The voices came all at once.Henry’s hands shifted from mine to my shoulders, gently reassuring me. I drew in a quiet breath.“Just a few,” I said.“As I’ve said and as you’ve rightly heard, the negligence caused by our staff almost brought harm to an individual. That was never, and will never

Camelia POV A ripple of agreement followed as cameras zoomed in, and I could feel my palms sweating. I inhaled slowly. Another hand went up immediately. “Are you here on behalf of the company?” “Yes I am”. “And I’m here to clarify facts and to address the concerns of the public.” I replied. Murmurs followed. “The consumer who used one of the company’s pharmaceutical products prior to his admission,” I continued. “While investigations are still ongoing, preliminary findings do not establish deliberate negligence or contamination.” “So you’re denying responsibility?” A female reporter asked. “No,” I said firmly. “Responsibility and guilt are not the same thing.” I wasn't so sure of how the words came about but there was a difference, it made the room quiet. “Castle Pharmaceuticals acknowledges the distress this incident has caused,” I said. “The company is cooperating fully with health authorities and independent investigators to determine the exact cause of the reac

Camelia POV My eyes lit up almost immediately. “A suspect?” “Henry, we need to go to the station,” I said, already reaching for my bag. “Hey…..hey,” Henry called after me, gentle but firm. “Calm down. If they’ve picked up a suspect, that’s a good thing. It means the police are moving forward.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “They’re capable of handling it, Camelia. And if they need you, if there’s anything to identify or clarify, I’ll go with you. I promise.” I hesitated. “But first,” he added, glancing toward the hallway, “we got work to do. We can’t delay this any longer. Let’s get to the office first. I released a long sigh. He was right, and that somehow made it worse. “We can go to the station straight from the office, right?” He smiled, almost disarming his smile. “Anything my lady wants.” “My lady.” The words echoed far louder in my head than they should have. Heat crept up my neck, straight to my cheeks, I could feel them burning. “Why are you blush

Whoever did this wasn’t reckless, they were careful. That fact alone sent chills down my body, more than the corpse itself. I wanted this scene far from the media’s reach, but when I turned, their cameras were already flashing, circling like vultures. “I have matters at the office,” I told the officers. “You have my contact. You can always reach out to us. The family will cooperate with the investigation.” My gaze flicked back to the tarpaulin. Camelia had insisted on coming here, though I doubted she would recognize the victim’s face. Gabriel,” I called. He immediately fell in st

Lily POV “What… what are you saying, Eric?” I stammered,as the words caught in my throat. He looked at me like I was a stranger. “I never knew you to be such a naïve girl, Lily.” My mouth opened, but nothing came out. “Or…” he leaned in slightly, voice lower,“…are you just trying to push me away? Even after giving you the opportunity you’ve always wanted?” I shook my head, feeling my pulse in my ears. “That’s not—” “Well,” he cut in smoothly, “I won’t push you Lily. I’ll wait for you to come to me instead.” He smirked from his pocket, he slid out a key card and pressed it into my palm. “Here. Room 317. If you don’t show up… I’ll assume you didn’t really want me after all.” I stared at him, my fingers tightening around the card like it might burn me. “Tell Judy I’ll be leaving first,” he added, his tone suddenly casual, like this wasn’t shattering me inside. “I have something to catch up on.” His hand came up to my cheek — warm, soft, lingering a second too long — b

Lily POV“Dad, I’ll be reading at Judy’s place tonight,” I said, scooping the last bite of scrambled eggs into my mouth.“It’s past 8 p.m. already. Lily, what have I told you about going out late?”I’ll be sleeping over…” I shrugged, mumbling with food still in my mouth, then gave a small, guilty smile as I avoided his eyes and nudged my plate forward. He let out a low sigh. “You just do what pleases you. Just drop a message when you get there, at least let me know you’re safe, miss.”“I will, Father.”I replied with a smile, grabbing my bag and headed for the door.*****There was no need to knock—I was practically family here—but courtesy demanded I do, so I tapped lightly on the door. The door opened just as I knocked and Susan’s little sister peeked out.“Hey, darling,” I said, ruffling her hair with a soft smile. “Where is everyone?”“They’ve all gone to bed,” she whispered, pointing toward the hallway.“And you?” I teased. “Still up?”“Trying to finish schoolwork,” she said, twi
