Six months after the shatterings of the Obsidian Citadel, the air over the capital city no longer tasted of sulfur and shadow.

The stagnant, oil-slicked waters of the Inner Gulf had cleared, returning to a vibrant sapphire blue that sparkled beneath the brilliant midsummer sun. The towering walls of black glass, once a grim monument to Emperor Vane’s tyranny, had been broken down by Northern siege-hammers and re-forged into grand open archways, flanked by terraced gardens of mountain pine and Southern oleander. Sol-Vaelen had been reborn as Aethel-Vaelen—the Citadel of the Twin Crowns.

On this clear, golden morning, the city's broad stone avenues were packed with a crowd unlike any the continent had ever seen.

Side by side stood three thousand heavily armored Wardens of the High Crags, their broadswords sheathed and wrapped in white wool ribbons of peace, alongside tens of thousands of Southern merchants, scholars, and provincial lords who had suffered under the Shadow Empire for generations. Children perched atop the shoulders of giant Northern shape-shifters, laughing as colorful silk banners—emblazoned with the silver wolf of the North intertwined with the golden dragon of House Vaelen—snapped lazily in the warm sea gale.

Inside the Great Hall of Unity—formerly the Obsidian Throne Room—the dark volcanic glass floor had been replaced by polished white granite, inlaid with shimmering veins of lapis lazuli and gold leaf. The grand marble pillars no longer depicted chained dragons; they were carved with winding grapevines and mountain pines, stretching up toward a massive glass dome that flooded the entire chamber with warm, natural sunlight.

At the base of the elevated marble dais stood Chieftain Torvin and Commander Kaelen, flanked by a joint honor guard of Northern chieftains and Southern provincial commanders.

"Look at them," Kaelen muttered under his breath to Torvin, his dark face beaming with quiet pride as he adjusted his formal iron cloak-clasp. "Six months ago, these Southern lords wouldn't cross a room to speak to a Warden without drawing steel. Today, they share meat and wine at the same hearth."

Torvin chuckled, a low rumble that vibrated beneath his heavy chainmail. "Aye. Nothing brings men together like watching a wild wolf and a dragon queen tear down a tyrant's fortress. Even the softest Southern duke respects strength when it saves his neck."

A resounding blast from four ancient bronze trumpets echoed through the high archways, cutting through the low murmur of the gathered nobility.

The heavy white-oak doors at the far end of the hall swung wide.

"Presenting Their Sovereigns!" the High Herald shouted, his voice echoing across the sunlit granite floor. "Soren of the High Crags, Sovereign Alpha of the Northern Tribes! And Valerie of House Vaelen, Dragon Queen of the United Realm!"

A deafening roar of cheers and wolf-howls erupted from the hall, rising up into the glass dome like a wave of thunder.

Down the long central aisle walked Valerie and Soren, moving side by side in perfect, synchronized harmony.

Valerie was a vision of radiant, ethereal majesty. Her gown was fashioned from ivory silk woven with delicate golden thread that caught the sunlight like liquid fire. Over her shoulders hung a mantle of dark crimson velvet, lined with white ermine fur—a traditional gift from the Northern elders. Across her collarbone, the silver wolf mark shimmered with a soft, eternal platinum light, entirely unblemished and pulsing in gentle rhythm with her breathing. Her dark hair was styled in intricate braids woven with mountain wildflowers and tiny, polished dragon-scales.

Beside her, Soren looked like an ancient god of mountain iron and sunlit gold. He wore a heavy tunic of deep navy velvet over a breastplate of polished silver steel, inlaid with intricate draconic runes that hummed with quiet, protective magic. His dark fur mantle was clasped across his chest with a heavy brooch forged from his own broadsword's original crossguard. His broad, scar-laced forearms were exposed, showing the radiant gold-and-violet scars from the Pool of Purification like badges of divine honor. His molten amber eyes were fixed not on the crowd, nor on the high thrones ahead, but on the woman walking beside him.

Through their soul-bond, an ocean of absolute warmth, triumph, and profound devotion flowed between them. There was no longer any need for physical distance or cautious restraint. Every step they took resonated through their shared spirit—his immovable, primal strength supporting her celestial radiance, her infinite flame illuminating his soul.

They ascended the marble steps of the dais together, turning to face the vast sea of their united people.

Standing at the top of the dais was Elder Yvaine, the oldest seer of the High Crags, her ancient hands trembling slightly as she held a heavy velvet cushion. Upon the cushion sat the two new crowns of the United Realm, forged by Northern smiths and Southern artisans working at the same anvil.

The crowns were not made of dark obsidian or heavy bronze, but of pure platinum and polished gold, intertwined like twisting vines and capped with shimmering violet dragon-crystals.

Elder Yvaine stepped forward, her milky eyes filled with tears of deep, ancient joy.

"For three hundred years, our world was broken," Yvaine declared, her voice carrying an uncanny, magic-infused clarity that reached every corner of the vast hall. "The North froze in isolation; the South withered in shadow. But the ancient prophecy of the First Lords has been fulfilled. The Wolf has claimed the Flame; the Dragon has anchored the Stone."

Yvaine lifted the first crown—the heavier, broader band of platinum and gold—and turned to Soren.

"Soren of the High Crags," Yvaine said, "do you swear to protect the people of the South as you have defended the snows of the North? Do you swear to rule with justice, strength, and unwavering devotion beside your Queen?"

Soren lowered his head slightly so the elder could reach. "I so swear," he rumbled, his voice deep and absolute as the roots of the world. "My strength is the shield of this realm, from the highest peak to the lowest tide."

Yvaine placed the crown upon his head.

She then lifted the lighter, intricate circlet of gold and violet dragon-crystal, turning to Valerie.

"Valerie of House Vaelen," Yvaine said softly, "do you swear to heal the wounds of this land? Do you swear to lead with wisdom, courage, and celestial fire beside your King?"

Valerie met the elder's gaze, her dark violet eyes blazing with pure, unwavering conviction. "I so swear. My fire shall warm our people in the dark, and my lineage shall serve as the hearth of a free continent."

Yvaine placed the circlet upon Valerie's brow.

"Then by the authority of the ancient earth, the celestial skies, and the unbroken bond of soul and blood," Yvaine declared, turning to face the crowd, "I present to you King Soren and Queen Valerie! Sovereigns of the United Realm!"

"LONG LIVE THE KING! LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!"

The chamber detonated in a frenzy of celebration. Northern Wardens slammed the butts of their spears against the granite floor in a rhythmic, booming cadance, while Southern lords threw white rose petals into the air. Outside the citadel walls, the sound of church bells, bronze trumpets, and thousands of cheering citizens rang out across the harbor, echoing out over the blue waters of the bay.

On the high dais, Soren turned to Valerie.

He didn't care about the cheering lords, the political banners, or the magnificent crowns resting on their heads. His molten eyes locked onto hers, filled with a raw, fierce love that made the entire world beyond them melt away.

He reached out, his broad, calloused hand cupping her cheek with gentle, reverent tenderness.

"My Queen," Soren murmured softly, a rare, breathtaking smile breaking across his stern, handsome face.

Valerie smiled up at him, leaning into his hand, her palm resting over his heart where her celestial flame beat in perfect harmony with his Alpha pulse.

"My King," she whispered back.

Soren drew her close, wrapping his heavy arms around her waist, and brought his lips down to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their reign before the gods and their people.

As their lips met, a subtle, breathtaking magic rippled outward from the dais. A gentle burst of platinum-violet light flared from their soul-bond, expanding outward through the Great Hall and spilling out through the archways into the streets of the city. Where the light touched, the potted mountain flowers bloomed instantly, the cool sea breeze tasted sweet, and every man, woman, and child felt the undeniable warmth of a new sunrise.

The dark era of the Sunken Empire had ended. The realm of the Wolf and the Dragon had begun.

The grand stone staircase leading to the apex of the Obsidian Citadel was silent save for the steady, echoing thud of heavy leather boots and the soft rustle of chainmail.Behind Soren and Valerie, three hundred picked elite Wardens—led by Chieftain Torvin and Commander Kaelen—formed a tight, iron-clad rearguard along the upper promenade, holding the grand archway against the lingering pockets of the Imperial Vanguard. The air at this height was thin, scalding, and heavy with the scent of sulfur and dark blood-magic emanating from the heart of the mountain. Before them stood the grand entrance to the Imperial Court: two sixty-foot doors forged from black volcanic glass, framed by carved stone bas-reliefs depicting the destruction of House Vaelen during the Great Purge.Valerie stopped three paces from the glass doors. The waters of the Inner Gulf were not blue; they were the color of stagnant ink, slicked with a perpetual film of sulfur and oil that steamed under the dim, orange glare of the volcanic sky.For six days following the purge at the Dragon Crypts, the Northern armada had pushed deeper into the heart of the Sunken Empire. Behind the lead dreadnought, the Vaelen's Revenge, sailed a battle-tested fleet: the Frost-Claw, the Iron Serpent, twenty heavily fortified supply longboats, and fifteen captured Imperial shadow-sloops now flying the silver wolf and violet dragon banner of the new alliance.Down on the main deck, three thousand Northern Wardens stood in quiet, grim formation. They had traded their snow-dusted furs for heavy iron mail lined with boiled leather, their broadswords and double-headed war-axes sharpened until the steel gleamed like ice. There was no singing, no boisterous shouting, and no beating of war-drums. The air in the gulf was so heavy with moisture and sulfuric heat t

The Vaelen’s Revenge lay anchored like a wounded beast, her starboard gunwales splintered where a heavy Imperial ram had sheared through her timbers. His dark silk robes were scorched, his iron mask warped from the heat of the underwater detonation."Focus all artillery on their flagship!" Morvath shrieked, his voice ragged with sulfur smoke and black blood. "The Queen is dead in the depths! The Alpha is ash! Crush the remnants of their No
