Ava’s POV

Vindell pinched the bridge of his nose, his eyes squeezed shut as he released a slow, frustrated breath. The way his shoulders stiffened told me whatever news he had received wasn’t good.

I shifted slightly on the sofa, my gaze fixed on him. “What is it?” I asked.

He lowered his hand and turned towards us, disbelief written all over his face.“Kate has escaped from prison.”

For a moment, nobody moved.

I blinked, wondering if I’d heard him correctly. “What? How? Isn’t she supposed to be

How? Isn’t she supposed to be under strict supervision?”“That’s what I want to know.” He shook his head. “I just received the news. Apparently, she managed to get out before anyone could stop her.”Peter scoffed, running a hand over his face. “Don’t tell me Mr. Blackwood is still helping her when he hasn’t even cleared his own name. That man should be more concerned about his own problems.”“That’s exactly what worries me,” Vindell replied.Peter leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “I wouldn’t be surprised if

  • Bound to the mafia    Chapter 118: The Call That Changed Everything

Ava’s POVBy evening, Sophia and Peter finally arrived. Vindell and I were curled up together on the couch, discussing everything that had happened throughout the day. His arm was wrapped around my shoulders while my head rested comfortably against his chest.“Did you do it?” I asked, tilting my head to look at him.He glanced down at me with a satisfied smile. “Let’s just say he got exactly what he deserved.”I sighed, shifting slightly. “Come on, I know he deserved it, but I also helped that restaurant grow. It still hurts to think about everything that happened. That place meant something to me, and now…” I trailed off. “He must be in complete shambles right now.”Vindell let out a short laugh. “Well, it’s not like I didn’t warn him. I gave him enough opportunities to make things right, but he was too arrogant to listen.”I raised my head. “How did you do it?”He looked down at me, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. “Let’s just say I found someone who was willing to cooperate

  • Bound to the mafia    Chapter 117: Happiness Before the Storm

Ava’s POVMy eyes widened as I stared at the pregnancy test in my hand. Beside me, Mrs. Ashford’s mouth fell open, and for a few seconds, neither of us said a word. Then, without warning, she let out an excited squeal and pulled me into a tight hug.“Oh, my God! You’re pregnant!” she exclaimed, practically jumping on the spot. “I’m going to have my first grandchild!”A small smile spread across my face as I wrapped my arms around her. Her excitement was contagious, and seeing her this happy made it difficult not to smile. But beneath that happiness was a fear I couldn’t quite shake, Vindell. What would he say when he found out? I mean, having a child was never part of our agreement. We had agreed to go our separate ways after one year, and now, with a baby on the way, everything was about to change.I swallowed the lump in my throat and glanced at the test again. I was going to be a mother. That was something I had never imagined happening this way.“Come on, sweetheart! We need to ge

  • Bound to the mafia    Chapter 116: The unexpected news

Winston’s POVRight before my eyes was a video of my restaurant engulfed in flames. I leaned closer to the television, my eyes darting across the screen as I tried to make sense of what I was seeing. The entire upper floor had been reduced to ashes. Thick clouds of smoke billowed into the sky while several firefighters scrambled around the building, desperately trying to put out the remaining flames.A news reporter stood a few metres away, holding a microphone as she delivered the report. “Firefighters are currently battling a devastating fire at one of the city’s popular restaurants. According to preliminary reports, the fire broke out earlier this morning, destroying a significant portion of the building. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined…”My mouth fell open. “No!”I sprang to my feet, completely forgetting about the injuries scattered across my body.“This can’t be happening!” I shouted at the television.I stared at the burning building, my chest tightening as the re

Kate’s POV“Aside from Ava, there’s another person Vindell doesn’t joke about, and that’s his mother.”His brows lifted slightly. “His mother?”I nodded, leaning forward in my chair. “Yes. Mrs. Ashford. If there’s one person who can make Vindell lose his composure, it’s her.”He stared at me, waiting for me to continue. “The truth is, Vindell is a very smart man. He’s managed to keep his secrets buried so deeply that nobody has been able to dig up anything substantial against him. He knows how to cover his tracks, and he’s careful about the people he allows into his inner circle.”I paused, watching his expression. “But I have a feeling he’s running a mafia organization. Michael, his right-hand man, knows a lot about it. There’s a good chance he knows where the skeletons are buried, so to speak.”“Okay?” he muttered, his forehead creasing. “And what exactly do you expect me to do with that information?”I allowed a small smile to spread across my face. “Kidnap his mother.”His eyes wi

  • Bound to the mafia    Chapter 114: An Alliance of Desperation

Kate’s POVThe moment I walked into the visitation room, the familiar smell of disinfectant hit my nostrils. I hated this place. The cold walls, the uncomfortable chairs, the constant sound of keys jingling around the guards’ waists. Everything about it made my skin crawl. My wrists were cuffed, and I could feel the metal digging into my skin as the warden led me towards the table. Mr. Blackwood was already seated on the opposite side. I lowered myself into the chair, my eyes immediately filling with tears. The moment the warden walked away, I leaned forward. “Mr. Blackwood, how could you do this to me?” My voice cracked. “How could you leave me in here?”He barely reacted.I continued. “I’ve been keeping my mouth shut because I thought you would come and get me. I’ve spent almost two weeks in this place, and you haven’t even bothered to visit me!”I wiped my cheeks with the back of my hand.“I hope you know that all it would take for me to ruin you is to open my mouth.”He sighed, adj
