Naomi’s POV

I didn’t sleep.

Not really.

I laid down earlier and closed my eyes for a while, hoping for myself to sleep. To let the exhaustion pull at my limbs like water, but my mind was loud, like...so fucking loud. Every time I drifted, I heard the gunshot again. Not just the sound, but the space it created in my head and my surrounding like silence had been torn open and left bleeding.

I got up when the sky was still that whitish shade of purple.

The fires were still burning, though smaller now. The coals looked like glowing hearts in the dark. We had survived today. Today was so scary for me. Marcus just threw me out into the open like that, asking me to address the people. If I say I wasn’t scared at that moment, I would be a damn liar and would be cast into the abyss for lying. It was so scary. But then, I had brought it upon myself, hadn’t I? Logan had told me that we could leave this pack and then return to our own. Then all these would have been prevented. But I have dug to

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 56: Home, Maybe

Naomi’s POVI woke up to silence. The atmosphere was warm, soft and silent. I tried to open my eyes, blinking repeatedly. The lights from the bulbs and from the room was so bright I had to blink to adjust to the light. As soon as I adjust to the light and my vision slowly came to focus, it met with the white ceiling and the soft rustling sound of the curtains. I couldn't move for a long moment since I woke up. I just lay there. I wasn’t sure I could even move. I wasn't even sure where I was. For the first time in a long while I didn't hear any howling of wolves, any screaming and claws tearing at something, or cries of people or the smoke of fire. I couldn’t even feel pain—Oh shit. I did feel a little throbbing pain in my head. Wasn’t I dead? Do dead people feel pain? Fuck. Death must have been as terrible as I never imagined. The thought that I was dead came softly, not with fear, just...a strange, distant acceptance. This was too calm. Too clean. Too bright. It didn’t feel like

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 55: The Road Out

Naomi’s POVThe wind was cold when it touched my skin, and I shivered as I stepped outside, leaning heavily on Marcus. I felt so weak and tired. My legs felt like rubber, my bones felt like they weren't there. The sunlight didn’t warm me. It didn’t even feel like there was sun. Everything just felt pale and distant, like I wasn’t really here. Like I was watching this all happen to someone else. God. What had happened to me? Why didn’t I feel like myself?I felt horrible. I didn’t like it. I wanted to leave. Maybe,if I'd leave this place, I will surely find myself, right? I'll get to meet my best friend, my brother, my mom and dad... I sighed. It really did feel terrible. “Careful,” Marcus said, as he tightened his arm around me as I missed that step. I felt my heart thumped at his touch. We had never had such close physical contact in like... a very long time. My vision was doubling. I couldn't see much and I hated it.Logan was ahead, barking orders at the guards, making sure the b

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 54: Confusion

Naomi's POV I gasped, a scream leaving my lips, my eyes snapping open. I tried to jerk upwards, but I was pulled back violently to the bed, my arms and legs aching. I breathed heavily, opening my eyes slowly. I was met the the cold feeling of chains wrapped around my wrists and ankles. Then a white bandage around my fingers and knuckles. I felt the shirt I wore was wet. Soaked, actually. I was soaked in sweat, my breaths coming out in shallow and quick and sharp bursts. My throat burned and itched and my heart felt like it was trying to climb out of my chest from how fast it was thumping. The content of the dream still haunted me as I received flashbacks of what I had dreamed about.Trees bleeding. Elenor whispering my name. My reflection speaking on is own...having a mind of its own. Darkness creeping in like it was alive. I couldn’t tell what was real. For a second, I thought I was still trapped. These goddamn chains. How could they bound my arms and my legs to the bedpost? I cou

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 53: Shattered Names

POV: NaomiThe name stayed there, fogged into the mirror like breath on a frozen window.Elenor. It didn’t make any fucking sense. It didn’t belong. It didn’t click. But my reflection, not me, not quite, was still staring back, lips moving in sync with mine even though I hadn’t spoken. Who the hell was she? Because she sure as hell wasn't me! And in the moment that followed, the room seemed to contract. I swallowed, looking around. It felt like walls were beginning to close in on me. The air thickened like I’d just stepped into the eye of a storm that hadn’t yet begun.“No,” I muttered, stepping backward, shaking my head vehemently. My heart was pounding now, a frantic drum against my ribs. I could not breathe. Not at all. I wrapped my arms around my throat, gasping for air through my nose."You will," the echo repeated in my head. "You will become her!" The voice laughed, and the laugh echoed repeatedly in my head.“Shut up.” I backed away, gasping, looking around. “Shut up, shut u

  • Bound with Shadows    Chapter 52: The Echo Inside

POV: NaomiI woke to a soft light bleeding through pale curtains, painting thin stripes across the ceiling. For a moment, I thought I was somewhere else—somewhere quiet and untouched. But the weight in my chest said otherwise. It didn't feel like pain. Not exactly. Ot felt more like a heaviness, like someone had pressed their hand to my sternum and refused to let go. My head throbbed gently, not from noise but the lack of it. Everything was too quiet. Like the world had hit pause and forgotten to restart. It felt as silent as it was in that place...My body felt different. Slower. Wrong. Like I’d borrowed someone else’s skin and bones and forgotten the return date.I shifted slightly, expecting soreness. It was there, but muted. I turned my head. There, in the corner, was Marcus. He was asleep in a chair too small for someone his size, his back hunched over and his arms locked around a leather-bound book... like a journal like it might disappear if he let go.His jaw twitched in sleep

  • Bound with Shadows    CHAPTER 51: The Name in the Dust

Marcus' POVNaomi was still asleep. Her breathing had steadied sometime after midnight, and though the healer claimed she'd wake by dawn, I couldn’t stop staring at her pale face which, for some reason, was paler than usual. Almost white. I sat still, my breath held, waiting for the smallest sign that she’d open her eyes and make a sarcastic remark or complain about the sheets. But nothing.I sat by her side, elbows on knees, hands clasped, every few seconds glancing at the steady rise and fall of her chest. Her breathing was easier now. Not great, not like herself, but better. The healer had said her spiritual tether was still fragile. She said she would wake fully by dawn as long as no one disturbed her. "Her spiritual tether is like glass right now," she'd said. . That had to count for something. She also said that pushing her awake too soon could unravel her from her body again. She was fragile... easy to fracture.I sat beside Naomi’s bed, elbows resting on my knees, watching th
