Harley~

Rae pokes me from the inside. 'Something doesn't feel right to me, Harley. I don't think this is just a case of allergies or migraines. We need to see a werewolf doctor at a pack hospital!'

'Ow, don't do that! You say that every time I get sick, there is nothing wrong with my doctor. It's just a couple of shots; you'll be fine, big baby.'

For the first time, I hope my wolf is wrong; she will be hell to live with if she's right, and I can only imagine how the crow will taste going down or coming back up. Since I was already in the bathroom, I washed my hands and splashed my face with cool water.

Now my stomach sings the song of its people, so I haul myself to the kitchen, open the fridge, and stare into the abyss. It may growl at me, but my gut turns at the thought of housing any content I see. Instead, I grab a cold can of ginger ale, pop it open, and take a sip.

'Harley, you must eat something. I am hungry!'

'Tell that to my insides, Rae.' My bare feet padded back down the hallway.

Right before I could get to the good part of my recurring dream about my Wolfman, which leads me to needing a shower. I'm rudely torn away from him as my eyes open with the alarm clock crowing at me. It's on mornings like these that I regret setting a cock as my alarm sound. My hand finds the snooze as I moan from the sudden movement and roll out of bed, make it to the kitchen, and turn on the coffeemaker while I get dressed.

The warm scent fills the apartment, beckoning me as I serve myself a cup, and that's where the magic ends. As I raise the cup to my mouth to take a sip of the brew, I gag. Not even my hazelnut blend is sitting right this morning. I fill my thermos cup anyway and head out the door. Even the damn sunlight is making me a little nauseous.

'Maybe you are turning into a vampire?' Rae teases me.

'Shut it, Rae!' I shoot back.

As I pull into the station parking lot, I see Sheila is just arriving as well. I have been avoiding being alone with her; she was one of the many witnesses who saw me flee into the night with a strange man. She headed straight for me; my eyes rolled as I braced myself.

She wasted no time. "Mystery man, spill!" Shelia had a twinkle in her eye.

My purse straps dig into my shoulder with unnecessary force, and I head towards the building. "It was nothing; he was nice; we just talked for a while." I lied like a rug! It was everything I had ever wanted!

Shelia eyed me suspiciously. "So where did he go?"

"I don't know." We enter the sliding glass doors, and I move away from Shelia toward my desk.

Before I can sit at my overloaded desk, Captain Howard comes through the squad room like a whirlwind and barks at me. "Gibson, in my office now!"

He never breaks his stride or looks to see if I'm following him. We enter, and he closes the door behind us before moving to his desk and gesturing for me to sit. Howard leveled me with a stare and exhaled, which gave me a bad feeling about what was to come. Just my luck, another piercing pain shot across my forehead.

"Harley, the brass has called the FBI in on the Stalker."

I tried to focus on his words instead of the jackhammer assaulting my brain. "Why? We are making progress."

"Apparently not enough. It's out of my hands now. Their liaison will be here this afternoon, and you are to work with the Agent."

"Captain, I do not do partners."

"You do now, Harley; it isn't a choice."

"How long before the agent gets here?" My mouth is so dry I could hack up a whole sweater!

"I don't know, maybe within the hour."

My fight-or-flight kicked into overdrive. "The impound lots have yet to be searched by us." I braced on his desk; thankfully, he didn't notice. "I will get on it."

"Wait until the Agent gets here; he has additional evidence you need to look at. And it would make a good olive branch to the Agent along."

I sank back down, defeated, as the captain's desk phone rang. He answered. "Yeah, okay. "He put down the receiver. "He just checked in downstairs."

A few moments later, I can't believe my nose but my Wolfman is here! Captain Howard rises from his desk and extends his hand to the man who has entered his office. I follow his movements and look up into his dark, dreamy eyes. He doesn't look surprised to see me. However, I am wide-eyed and open-mouthed at the sight of him.

"Agent Reins, this is Detective Gibson."

He extended his hand to me, and out of sheer stupidity, I accepted it. His touch was akin to sticking a fork into an electrical outlet. I jerked my hand away. "It's nice to meet you." I wasn't sure if the words had even left my mouth.

Nick sat beside me, placed the file in his hand on the table, and refocused on Captain Howard.

"You have some new information, Agent Reins?" Howard nods his head at Nick.

"I do, Captain." Nick opened the file and slid it between us. "This is Lenorad Luccese." He pointed to the picture on the front page. "Big time player in the Italian mafia."

"I know who he is, but how does he fit in?"

"A reliable source tells us he is the man calling the shots behind your murderers."

My eyes focus on the photo, and my entire world spins out of control. At least I am sitting down this time. My father had promised me to an Italian mafia boss as his mate. I gasped; now both are staring holes through me. Oh no, I am going to be sick!

Harley~The universe doesn't listen, and the next thing I see before me is the most beautiful, peaceful place I could ever imagine. I somehow know that it is Sauther Lake; I am home. Not wasting another moment on the nightmare, I step into the scene, turn, and see Lauren has appeared beside me. "I am ready to come home, Lauren."Lauren turned to face me, hummed a familiar tune, and started moving her hands in unfamiliar patterns all around me. My insides heated as her movements intensified, as if she were branding something on my soul. She put the stone she'd held into my hand when she was done. "You don't have to be alone anymore, Harley." She disappeared into the mist. "Wait, I have so many questions!I'm once again alone in the darkness. "Let me go home!" Someone or something must have taken pity on me, as I find myself back in Melinda's living room, still on my knees with my face buried in my hands. The fire has gone out in more ways than one. "Did you find what you were looking

Harley~ Nick pampered me in every way he saw fit, and I was loving it. One might not put a bounty hunter and an attentive caregiver in the same category, but I sure would now. After my bubble bath, he put me to bed and snuggled close to me, wrapping me in his cocoon as if I were his butterfly about to emerge. Delighted and satisfied, I closed my eyes and drifted into a peaceful sleep; however, it didn't last long. My eyes flew open as I woke in a cold sweat after finding myself alone in the delivery room. With no Ben or Nick by my side, I clung to Nick, only breathing again when I was sure it was just a dream. My eyes filled with tears, and I closed them as tightly as possible as I begged the goddess to hear my prayer. This had to be Nick's child growing inside of me; it just has to be! 'You don't need to get yourself so worked up, Harley. It isn't good for you or our baby. We will know for sure tomorrow, but it won't matter to Nick.' 'Maybe not right away, but eventually, he

Nick~About ten minutes later, I burst through the door of her apartment to find Harley pacing the floor. Of course, I reach for her, but she backs away from me, a feeling I don't like."Sit." She gestures toward the sofa, and I take a seat."What is wrong, Amante?"With tears streaming down her cheeks, she wrings her hands and paces the floor in front of me. "I am pregnant, Nick.""That's amazing; why are you crying, Harley?""Shut up, damn it, Nick, listen to me for a minute; it's not that simple because I don't know who the baby belongs to."I have never been so high, or so low, so quickly; Harley stops in front of me as if she's waiting for her punishment, but I don't have any to give. There's no doubt in my mind that Harley loves me, and I can clearly see that she is already punishing herself enough; still, she backs away as I reach for her."There's more, Nick."What more could they possibly be? She looked at me, and it didn't matter. "Tell me whatever you like, but I've already

Harley~We arrived at the station separately and were on time for the morning briefing. As I suspected, the stalker hasn't returned to either branch, and nobody has used the debit card. A weary sigh escaped me somehow. I'm feeling neither shocked nor surprised. Captain Howard wants us back on the streets in full force, but I reminded him of my appointment. My Wolfman may not be an agent, but he is smart."I'll be out of the office sometime this afternoon as well. My SAC is expecting an update on our progress."I focused on the Captain. "Did we get anything from Peter?" "Yes, a couple of descriptions, but neither of the sketches matches our suspects. I need you both back here ASAP."Howard calls the powwow, and we all leave the SCIF room. I want a moment alone with Nick before my appointment, but I know it's not appropriate. He is in my head, before I get out of the parking lot, telling me he loves me and will wait to hear from me, and I smile as I return his sentiment.'He's worried

Harley~Nick grabs his still-packed bag from our trip to Culer City, and we head up the stairs. He has no trouble with the lock that sticks and hands me my keys after opening the door. My stomach is doing somersaults as I flip on the ceiling fan light and put the keys on the hook by the door before turning to face him."I'm sure it's not what you're used to, but it's comfortable."He tossed his bag onto the sofa and pulled me into him. "As long as you are with me, a cardboard box under a bridge would satisfy me, Amante."I'm picturing our cardboard house rocking on that bridge and feeling the impact of my dirty thoughts on my cheeks. Nick grinned at me as if he'd read my mind. Taking his hand, I led him down the hallway to my bedroom, which I instantly regretted.Nick leveled me with a cocky grin when he smelled himself coming from my bed. His eyes are searching for the source as mine focus on the pillowcase from the hotel, and I feel the heat creep up my cheeks all over again. As a d

Harley~Perhaps against his better judgment, Nick leaves me alone in the car again. It's a wonder he looks almost as good going as he does coming. The way his ass fills those jeans starts a fire as I watch him until he enters the Bodega. My soul is singing the song of his admission of love for me as I close my eyes and rest my head on the rest. Although it had been a Freudian slip on Nick's part, I knew he meant it. Beautiful pinks and yellows claim the sky as the sun sets, and a cool breeze blows off the bay. Not being able to resist, I leaned forward, turned the switch, and rolled down the windows. The pungent smell of diesel fuel from the bay also wafts through the car, silencing my soul song and snatching me back to reality; now I am fighting the door handle for release.Nick calls my name as he returns to find me leaning out of the car seat and heaving. Only the goddess knows what he's thinking, probably that he's gotten himself in a mess with me. He puts the cupholder and bag o
