Samarah

The function started almost immediately after the orientation, it took place indoors at a large gym. The college was very expansive, like a castle, and the gym was large enough for the entire faculty and students. Given who the special guest was, everyone decided to stay and hopefully leave a good impression on Alpha Serburi and his son, Nicholas. I was still reeling from the information, and despite my willingness to not be around Nicholas and attract more attention to myself, he hadn’t left my side.

“I see my son is sticking to you like glue miss.” Alpha Serburi said while lifting his hand in our formal were greeting. I returned the gesture with a smile.

“So it would seem. I am Samarah Lynxmoon, it is my pleasure to meet you.” I spoke confidently hoping my voice wouldn’t crack. This was exactly what I hadn’t wanted! Special attention from the largest pack’s alpha. What has Nicholas gotten me into? I sighed inwardly.

“Samarah Lynxmoon?” He asked squishing his brows together. “From Moonriver?”

“Yes Alpha Serburi.” I answered.

“My apologies, I was unaware of an older daughter.”

My cheeks flamed, my parents had never even acknowledged me?

“I don’t always see eye to eye with them.” I clenched my teeth reigning in my frustration. I wished with my entire being that I wouldn’t have to be defined by my last name, or that pack that was supposed to be my family.

“I see. Well, good to meet you Samarah of Moonriver.” He gave me a pleasant smile and looked to Nicholas. “How did the two of you meet?”

Nicholas gave his father an easy smile. “My driver hit her a little over a month ago while I was visiting Fallen Heights. I stayed with her at the hospital, and the rest is history.”

Serburi furrowed his brow. “How did a were get hit by oncoming traffic?”

My cheeks flamed, he probably thinks I’m the klutziest person ever!

“It was a very rainy night, and she was distraught. I myself asked the same thing.” Nicholas spoke quickly, maybe trying to save me from personal embarrassment, but I had no damn clue.

“I, uh yes, a severed mate bond, alpha.” I stammered, getting redder by the minute.

“Ah. I see, I am sorry to hear of it. The loss of a mate bond can be crippling.” His smile was kind. “There is much strength within you, Samarah, I admire that. You must join us for a private dinner soon, please.”

“I, yeah, thank you alpha.” I was completely caught off guard.

“There is no need for such formality from another of alpha blood who can inspire so much admiration.” He winked playfully. “Serburi is fine.”

I nodded politely.

“I am sorry to steal you away from your company, but we have some business to discuss.” Serburi lifted my hand with his own and kissed the top of it. “My pleasure. Thanks for meeting me.”

Imitating his father, Nicholas also grabbed my hand and kissed the top of it, though he lingered a bit longer and sent sparks through me.

“Catch you later beautiful.” My breath caught in my throat. And with that they left.

My heart was hammering and I was sure it would burst from my chest.

“So, you think a make over and a special new friend will change the fact that you are nothing?” Aleah’s high-pitched voice sounded behind me and I clenched my fists.

I was so freaking done tonight, and this bitch was really pushing it. I turned on my heel to face her mocking smile.

“At least I’m not a homewrecking skank.” I retorted with my chin high.

Her eyes brightened with anger as she raised a hand to slap me. I caught her arm mid swing and threw it to the side.

“Careful Aleah, the no violence policy at this school is always in effect.” My voice was low and dangerous, I was done being someone who was uncared for and picked on. To hell with everyone who thought that they were better than me. “I may be nothing to you, but you’re always going to be a beta’s daughter. Don’t forget that I was born with an alpha bloodline whether they or I want to acknowledge it or not.”

I vaguely noticed Riley and his friend Damor coming up next to her. Riley’s piercing gaze was sorrowful, maybe even guilty, but I was having none of it. I scoffed. “You two are fucking perfect for each other. Cowardly, disloyal, and weak.” I notched my chin up a bit more in disdain, glared daggers at the 2 of them, and left to find Allison.

Allison found me first and gave me a bright smile. “I was coming to help back you up, but girl you had that down pat!”

I smiled despite my raging emotional turmoil. “I did, didn’t I?” I’d never stood up for myself so fiercely before, but I did it. I knew I was emerging from the broken pieces that created me, a Phoenix in my own right, rising from the ashes of those who may forever believe I am nothing. I was sure that Allison helped me with that.

I sighed and linked my arm through Allison’s. “I made a decision, a very important one.”

“That tone is your ‘I don’t fuck around’ tone, what’s up?”

“I have a tone like that?” I asked curiously.

She giggled. “Yes. You do. Fess up girlie.”

“I’m going to change my name. More specifically, my last name. Immediately after I am done with this place and start my life post college, I will no longer be Samarah Lynxmoon of Moonriver.”

“It’s a grand idea Sammie, but you can’t change your pack.” Allison pointed out.

“I can denounce it, and since I have an alpha bloodline, I wouldn’t be in danger of going feral. I will make my own pack that will be for anyone who feels discarded in their own. High ranking or otherwise.”

I could see a vision clearly in my mind. An exploding tech company focusing on enhancing werewolf community, a company who was also a pack. A new pack. Yes, that sounded beautiful.

“Well, then I can be your beta.” Allison said, taking me from my thoughts.

I furrowed my brows. “Allison, you are of alpha bloodline as well. You shouldn’t be a beta. And you love your family, I could never ask you of such a thing.”

She elbowed me playfully. “You didn’t ask me, I made a vow, and you can’t take it back. But now we have to come up with your new name, and our pack name!”

My heart felt full, I didn’t think I needed a mate to be happy. And I was right, I had Allison and my own determination. It was the first time in awhile that I knew everything would be ok, and I wasn’t alone. That, well, that was absolutely priceless.

Samantha“You’re a cheeky little shit, aren’t you?” I wrapped my hand around his neck and squeezed just a bit. I chuckled darkly. “Kill the rest, he’s going to help us get our property back. His eyes widened as the rest of his companions were slaughtered right in front of him. “I said—” he began to splutter, and I smacked him harshly.“You said your death would make the news public. You are alive. And do you honestly believe I would let these little friends of yours live, knowing what they know?” I scoffed, “I’m not daft.”“How do I know you won’t kill me and my other friend the moment you have Lykanthrope?”“You don’t. As it is, we need a test subject, and we have a deal. I don’t go back on my word.” I pushed him back as I let my hand drop from his throat. “Now, let us go find your special friend.”As it happened, his friend was nearby. Within walking distance even. ‘I think enough tweaks with Lykanthrope could force loyalty from anyone.’ Ansel mind linked me.‘He’s right, a couple

  • Bowing to Silverclaw   29: Sting

SamanthaIt was silent when we reached the abandoned factory, eerie. It didn’t bother me though, I would kill every last one of them if I needed to in order to get the schematics of Lykanthrope back. Sting was the absolute worst group to have access to something of this magnitude. All of Silverclaw was with me, as well as our sworn Barriers and 8 warriors that had shown the most promising growth since our retreat in Apalachicola. Draegon, Ashton, Venus, Stevie, Jeverah, Allen, Pope, and Thella. After the fiasco with her brother, Jeverah made many strides to prove herself loyal, and became stronger.Ashton, under Carlton’s wing, had gotten better since then also, and tonight, he was being tested. They all were. The evening sky was dancing with its colors, marking the end of the day. I had hoped Sting would be winding down, ending their day.The fact that some of their men were captured, meant I had little time before they attempted to move their location, or dispose of my property. I w

  • Bowing to Silverclaw   28: Going International

SamanthaIt was moments before the cameras would begin rolling as we announced our global transition. My nerves were rolling, Ansel was hot on the trail for the Sting group, working closely with the police investigation, and I was sure we would have information soon. Though it didn’t stop my mind from wandering to what they may or may not have figured out about Lykanthrope. As Angel instructed, and Damon, I was presenting a solid face for my position as the reporters got ready. We stood in front of Silverclaw Enterprise headquarters at the top of the staircase. Carlton and Daniel were with Ansel, so it was me, Damon, Angel, and Vienna. There was a ribbon to be cut in front of us, and a very large audience. Being mindful of the fact that not only werewolves would see the broadcast, we ensured our words would fit with human society. And we certainly made technological advances for humans as well so we did not draw attention.Elixir 2.0 was our main focus for this though. “Thank you a

Samantha“Sex?” Nick’s voice was even more confused than when we had begun.“When you take the Silverclaw oath, and name the family as yours, you have a very strong desire to be with Samantha, and her you.” Angel explained. “We had no idea at the time, she was messing with some chemicals and tech, managed to change her blood, even her very core. A blood oath was to give me similar abilities, and it did…but it did more than that.”Each of the Silverclaw members chuckled at Nick’s expression. He looked at Damon and Carlton. “But you’re both gay.”“Oh not for the first week after we became Silverclaw honey.” Damon answered and we all began laughing some more.“Even though you had mates?” Nick’s eyes were incredulous. “You brought them that pain of…of the betrayal?” He tried wrapping his mind around the concept, we could all tell.“That doesn’t happen with this.” Daniel took up the explanation. “After the bloodletting part of the oath, we actually become a more unified being. Our minds me

SamanthaCarlton laughed and slapped Nick on the back. “It’s quite a bit more than just a blood oath buddy.”“So I’ve heard.” Nick answered wryly. “And seen.” He looked at me pointedly.I sighed. He really wasn’t going to let this go.“Bro, you haven’t seen anything yet.” Ansel took another swig of his beer before continuing. “Silverclaw isn’t your typical wolf, on a larger scale than you think.”“Then tell me. What’s the big secret? What makes you guys so close and so special? You guys are closer to each other and to Samantha than anyone else, even though you have mates, I can see you’re each bonded closely. Especially to Sam.”Vienna looked uneasily around at everyone. “Nick, this isn’t something we can talk about here.” Her voice was hushed. “Becoming Silverclaw and its ins and outs are saved for a discussion with those we seriously consider allowing to join. If they choose that it isn’t worth it, they are turned away with the assurance they speak to no one about what it entails.”

  • Bowing to Silverclaw   25: Not Ready

SamanthaNick’s words stunned me into silence as I looked him in the eye. My world seemed to spin. How could he want to be Silverclaw?“Nick…you would have to denounce Dragonmoon…you’d never be the alpha of your pack. You’ve been groomed to take it over by Serburi.”“I know all of that. But you’re more of an alpha than I ever was Samantha. Silverclaw is important to me, I love you as much as the rest of your Silverclaw family.”“Nick, you don’t understand what you’re asking. Not really. Becoming Silverclaw changes us…” I faltered for the words to say. There were so many things that came with taking on the blood oath, much different than anyone could experience with any other oath bond.“Alpha,” Draegon came up to me and Nick before Nick could reply. He bowed deeply. “May I have this dance?”During my conversation with Nick, the music had taken a bit of a slower turn, in my eagerness to stop the conversation with Nick I agreed. Setting my beer on the table nearest to me, I let Draegon
