Sam walked into her house and tossed the keys on the end table. She took off her heels and pushed them under the table. Despite her attempts to ‘go back to normal’ this past week Life was anything but normal. Tears welled up in her eyes and her heart ached. It was wrong, but Sam missed David and the way he made her feel. She missed Tabby. Everyone looked at her with disapproval, concern, or pity. Some like Stephanie accused her of being a traitorous brown-nosing bitch. Even Adam, the biggest goody two shoes had started snubbing any conversation with her.

David entered the same club he’d met Sam in. He walked up to the bar, greeting the bartender and ordering himself a drink. He couldn’t help feel a little disappointed Mark refused to come with him, but then Mark had someone waiting for him at home now. Envy filled David as he downed the drink the bartender gave him then turned to scan the crowd. Several women already filled the place, many of them attractive, but he didn’t feel motivated to talk to any of them. He turned and ordered another drink. Maybe this had been a dumb idea, he thought as a blonde woman walked up to him. Sam sat in the window seat staring at the sun sink slowly into the city skyline. A few snowflakes fell slowly to the street below. She always thought she’d hate big cities but since she moved to Indianapolis she found she loved it. It was exactly what she needed. A fresh start or close as she could get to one. Four hours later Sam entered her apartment throwing her bag to the corner. Thanks to Robert she still wasn’t able to read the chapter. All she could think about was his plan for New York and whether or not to go. The restaurant looked nice, which didn’t surprise Sam any, Tabby always had good taste. They sat at the table the waiter led them to. Tabby and Robert chatted away, they seemed to get along very well, but Sam wasn’t listening. She was lost in her thoughts while she looked out the window of the restaurant, remembering that fateful weekend that had brought her and Tabby to the city for the first time.It seemed like a lifetime ago and she wasn’t the same person anymore. That carefree and happy Sam was gone and replaced by the worried and guilt-ridden Sam, who wasn’t sure if she could remember what being happy was like anymore. David stood out of the club, surprised by how nervous he was. Mark had already gone in, but David still stood on the sidewalk.
