Chapter 98

I slid down on the chair across from him, placing his interlocked fingers atop the table between us. His head snapped up, a corner of his mouth curling upward,

"You look fine," He crooned, eyeing me up and down, "That's surprising."

I smiled forcibly, looking down on my fingers, carefully picking each one. I contemplated how best to continue the conversation but thankfully, he picked it up from there,

"Today is your deadline, love," He grinned menacingly, leaning closer to the table, "I assume you have the answer I want."

I huffed, looking down and back up again, "I do," His lips was beginning to climb up, "But I'm not sure that's the answer you want."

The smile fell from his face almost immediately and I took that opportunity to grin, "I'm going to participate in this contest and I will win."

He scoffed, disdain filling his eyes. A muscle was starting to tick and I had to swallow down the fear. I put up a bold front, tipping my chin upward,

"You've forgotten, your family is under-"
