Chapter 13

Markus' gaze was uncomfortably sharp. Kathryn couldn't bring herself to be calm at the thought of working with him. She tried to make herself look as small as possible by hunching over slightly.

Frustrated, Markus snapped, "Go back to work."

"Yes, Mr. Hunt!" Kathryn was very relieved to hear him say that. She went back to her desk quickly.

Markus gave her one last look before going into Chris' office.

Kathryn tried her best to get back to work, but she couldn't help thinking about what she'd seen in Chris' lounge. She really needed to be more careful from now on, or she'd get in trouble.

Markus stayed in Chris' office for around an hour just to discuss something. As soon as he left, Kathryn's work phone rang. She glanced up at the president's office instinctively, only to see Chris' dark and piercing gaze on her.

Lowering her head in fright, she picked up the phone. "Hello?"

"Get over here." Chris' voice was low and angry. He hung up immediately after.

Kathryn's grip on the phone tightened. Her heart was pounding hard, as if it were trying to escape her body. Picking up a stack of documents related to a meeting later in the day, she gathered her courage and went into his office.

As soon as she opened the door, she could feel the tension in the air. Nervously, she placed the documents on the table and pushed them toward Chris. "Mr. Albert, here are the documents for the meeting later for your reference."

Chris' fingers were tapping on the table rhythmically. Kathryn's heart fluttered with every tap as Chris sat there silently. She wasn't sure how much longer she could stand the pressure.

After what seemed like forever, just as she was about to break down, Chris finally spoke. "What did you see just now?"

"Nothing!" Kathryn denied it fervently. "I saw nothing!" If she said she'd seen him naked, she would be done for. It would be a worse mistake than admitting she was the woman from that night.

She met his dark eyes nervously. For a moment, she had a strange feeling that he wasn't as angry as she'd thought, but she quickly lowered her eyes after a brief glance. "I really didn't see anything."

"Is that so?" His voice was chilly.

Kathryn nodded firmly. Just as she had that night, she tried her best to look nonchalant.

Chris chuckled.

This was the first time Kathryn had heard him laugh like that. It was a mix of coldness and charm, which just added to her torment. He stopped looking at her and said, "You can leave now."

"Yes, sir." Kathryn nodded and ran out of the office hurriedly.

As he watched her scurry out of the office like a rabbit escaping pursuit, a soft smile appeared on Chris' face.

Kathryn didn't get a chance to sit down after exiting Chris' office, as Markus's assistant told her that Markus wanted to speak to her. He was in his office with another person.

"Mr. Hunt? You were asking for me?" she asked as she entered.

"Come here," Markus said. "Is this the footage that you saw at the hotel that night?"

Kathryn froze, her face pale. Footage? The surveillance footage that she and Tally had destroyed? It was like a bomb had gone off in her head. She stared at Markus blankly, unable to react.

Seeing that she wasn't moving, Markus frowned. "Ms. Michaels?"

"Ah? Yeah?"

"Let's watch this together."

Kathryn's breath was stuck in her throat. She really didn't want to watch the footage; all she could think of now was running away. She had to escape.
