The apartment door creaked open as Will stepped inside, dropping his keys on the table. His shirt was wrinkled from a long day.

Mia sat on the couch, her eyes distant, fingers fidgeting with her bracelet.

"You look like someone who lost a fight with their own thoughts," Will teased lightly, kicking off his shoes.

Mia forced a smile and stood to meet him halfway. "Welcome back," she said softly, though her eyes betrayed her.

Will's smile faded as he studied her face. "You good?"

"I'm fine," Mia replied too quickly, stepping aside. "Long day."

"Talk to me," Will whispered, pressing a soft kiss to the corner of her lips. He lingered there, his other hand settling gently on her waist.

"It's Jaden," Mia admitted at last, her voice barely above a whisper.

Will's brows drew together with concern. "Darling," he said gently, "he’s going to be fine. He's responding to treatment."
