HAILEY

Jayden didn’t need to change, he just needed someone who truly understood him. Hailey winced at the way he described her, but he wasn’t exactly wrong. She had always had a soft spot for anything or anyone in need.

That part of her, though, often made her ache inside, especially when she thought about the choices she’d made in her own life.

“I still have Daisy,” she admitted quietly.

Jayden had given her the mostly white kitten with a few tan spots on the day of her high school graduation. The poor thing had been starving and abandoned on the side of the road. Jayden had picked her up and brought her to Hailey. From the moment she saw the kitten, she hadn’t been able to let her go. It was love at first sight.

“I thought you were going to fatten her up and find her a new home,” Jayden said with a knowing smile.

“I couldn’t.”

Not that she’d tried very hard if at all. She’d fallen for Daisy within five minutes.

“She’s deaf. Nobody wanted her,” she added quickly, trying to defend herself when Jayden gave her a look that said he wasn’t buying it.

Daisy had likely been born without hearing, but it didn’t seem to slow her down. The blue eyed cat didn’t miss what she’d never had. Still, Hailey could never let her outside. A deaf cat wouldn’t hear cars, predators, or any other threats, and that meant constant danger. Daisy didn’t seem to mind, though.

“I’m sorry,” Jayden said, his voice filled with guilt. “I never meant to burden you with a deaf cat.”

“Don’t be,” Hailey said quickly. “I love her. She’s great company.”

It wasn’t always easy to have a pet with her constant travel, but she made it work. Her neighbor helped when she couldn’t take Daisy along.

“Better company than your ex?” Jayden asked, his tone clearly annoyed.

“Definitely,” Hailey said firmly.

Jayden ran a finger gently along her cheek, and she shivered.

“You’re cold,” he said, then took her freezing hand and led her toward the doors back to the party.

“Let’s get out of here,” he said as they reached the door. “Come away with me.”

Hailey looked up at him, searching his face, trying to understand what was behind the urgency in his eyes. His usual confidence was there, his strong jaw tight but something in his expression begged her not to turn him down.

*I can’t. Not with Jayden. Don’t let that look in his eyes get to you.*

But in the end, it was her heart that made the decision.

“Ok,” she murmured. “I’ll meet you out front. But I’m not sleeping with you, so if that’s all you’re after, don’t show up.”

Something was clearly weighing on Jayden’s mind, and she wanted to know what it was. And if she was being honest, she just wanted to be with him. They were both leaving tomorrow, and it could be a long time before she saw him again.

Being alone with him was dangerous but it was also impossible to resist because beyond the physical attraction, she’d missed him.

I only have tonight. Hailey thought.

“That’s not all I want,” Jayden said quietly as he opened the door for her.

A chill crept down her spine, not from the cold this time, but from the low, intense sound of his voice. He hadn’t denied that he wanted to sleep with her.

She handed him back his jacket. “So you won’t try to seduce me?”

“I probably will,” he said honestly. “I don’t think I’ll be able to help myself. But you can always say no.”

That was the truth. The problem is, saying no to you won’t be easy. Hailey thought but didn't dare say the words outloud.

She straightened up, giving him a look that was meant to be firm. “I have no problem saying no,” she lied, then slipped around the room, keeping close to the wall to avoid the crowd.

“Hailey?”

She paused, feeling his hand gently wrap around her arm.

“Yes?”

"I just have one question before you walk away Hailey. How loud do you think you'll scream when I fuck you?"

Hailey gasped and my panties got soaked so bad that I could feel my arousal slowly dripping down my legs.

She was so shocked that she could barely speak and just stared at Jayden with a shocked expression.

“It’ll still be a good night, even if you say no. I just want to be with you for a while,” he said, his voice deep and dripping with sex.

Fuck me, Hailey whispered to herself.

If James caught her eating chocolate, she knew he’d be angry. The punishment for the pastry she’d just eaten wouldn’t be pleasant. Chloe rubbed at the chocolate stains harder, her heart racing at the thought of James walking in right now. I need to get rid of the evidence! “It’s just chocolate. It washes off.” The deep, slow Texas drawl came from the kitchen doorway, and the voice startled her so much that she let out a small squeal. It wasn’t James, thank God. It was a voice she knew far too well. Gabriel Walker. Chloe turned toward the sound of that husky male voice, the one that always made her shiver. Gabe Smith had the sexiest voice she’d ever heard. That deep tone, mixed with his Texas accent, sent chills down her spine. And then there were his eyes beautiful green eyes full of kindness. Why does he have to be so hot? It’s unfair for one man to be this handsome and nice. She’d known Gabe since she was a kid, but she’d really started noticing him after moving back to Roc

Epilogue The Story of Chloe and Gabe Chloe's POV Chloe Roberts hated parties. Even though the New Year’s Eve party was full of family and old friends from Rocky Springs, the small town where she grew up, she still felt uneasy. Her mood had dropped when her fiancé, James, told her that the pretty black cocktail dress she wore didn’t look good on her. He didn’t say it nicely either, he told her it made her look fat and that she should change. She didn’t change, not because she wanted to fight him, but because it was the only nice dress she owned that still fit her curvy body. She had bought it just for the party at her mother’s house. Since she didn’t go to many parties, her closet was full of jeans, t-shirts, and sweatshirts. As a veterinarian who worked with animals all day, casual clothes were perfect for her job. At first, Chloe had been excited about the party. She didn’t usually enjoy fancy events, even though she was a billionaire now and they were part of her life. But

Ally nodded. “Yep. Chloe really likes Travis.” “I’m glad we won’t have to wait long to see you again,” Christine said happily to Travis and Ally. Terrence’s mind wandered to Chloe and how sad she had seemed lately. He reminded himself that he needed to look into her situation with James. Something about their relationship didn’t feel right. And after what Christine had said about James acting rude at the gym, Terrence wasn’t happy about Chloe marrying someone who might not treat her well. Now that he knew what real happiness felt like, he wanted the same for all his siblings. “Hey, Ally! That’s the buffet I told you about,” Christine squealed. “Let’s stop there,” Ally said eagerly. “I’d love to try it.” Travis gave Terrence a pained look. Clearly, he didn’t like Vegas buffets any more than Terrence did. Unfortunately, Ally and Christine seemed to love them. “I’m a billionaire. We can eat at any restaurant in this city. Do I really need to suffer through a buffet?” Travis s

“More than I ever thought I would be, buddy. And you will be, too. Christine is an amazing woman, and she’s perfect for you. She wants to meet Aria now so she can see if there’s anything she can do before she goes back to school. She wants to help. Your woman has a kind heart,” Travis said to Terrence sincerely. Terrence nodded. He knew how big her heart was, it was as wide as the ocean. “I know. I just wish she’d stop hugging you for saving her life.” Once was fine, but it felt like Christine hugged Travis every time she saw him. And even if Travis was his best friend, Terrence didn’t like watching his fiancée hug another man under eighty. Travis raised an eyebrow. “Possessive, aren’t you? I remember when you used to tease me by flirting with Ally.” Terrence flinched, remembering how he’d done that just to annoy Travis because he thought it was funny. He didn’t think it was funny anymore. “I regret that now,” he muttered. Travis smirked. “Good. Then I’ll stop telling Christine ho

Travis crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at Terrence. “Roberts, she already knows you’re an asshole. I told her myself. But for some reason, she still wants to marry you. She’ll be here.” Travis pulled up the sleeve of his expensive suit and checked his watch. “For Christ’s sake, it’s only noon.” Terrence looked at his own watch. “It’s one minute after,” he said gruffly. “She’s with Ally, and I’m sure my wife isn’t running away. I stopped worrying about that a long time ago. She loves me,” Travis said with a smug smile. “Christine loves me too,” Terrence replied confidently, trying to calm his nerves. He should have stayed with Christine in case she got cold feet. But instead, he got ready with Travis while Christine went with Ally to buy a new dress. Even though they were getting married in Vegas, Terrence wanted the day to be special. He wore a tuxedo, and Travis wore a nice suit. Luckily, Travis and Ally were free to come and stand up for them. Terrence had thought about a

“It was a dangerous mission. We were shot down before we could finish what we came to do. I was lucky I managed to land the helicopter without it catching fire. But the crash was bad. I took most of the hit. Everyone else was able to get out on their own.” The mission had been a mess, but at least no one had died. “Who got you out?” Christine asked worriedly. “My team. They had to carry me for miles before help came.” “You actually let them carry you?” she asked, surprised. “It was that or bleed to death in enemy land. Right now, I’m just damn glad I lived.” She looked at him with suspicion. “Did you get hurt on purpose?” Terrence shrugged, not wanting to admit that he had taken the worst of the crash to protect his men. He had tried to make the helicopter hit his side first. “I was the senior officer and commander,” he said simply. He didn’t answer directly, but Christine’s eyes softened as she understood what he meant without him saying it. Their eyes met, and Terrence
