Sophia

I knew that staying locked in the meeting room and waiting for everyone to arrive was going to drive me crazy. Bright’s cologne mixed with Dante’s scented the room and haunted me like ghosts.

I stood up slowly, picked up my folder, pretended I needed to review some documents, and walked out of the room without saying a word. There was no one to pretend for anyway. They had left me alone there. I walked down the hallway in silence, greeting the floor receptionist with a slight nod.

“Miss Sophia, I left an envelope that just arrived at the company. It’s for you. It’s on your desk.”

I felt annoyed.

“Call me Miss, Daniela. I’m a single woman,” I reminded her, feeling humiliated.

“I’m sorry, Miss,” she apologized with a smile.

I entered my office and closed the door behind me. Forcing smiles was going to be a hard task that day.

I leaned against the door for a moment. I felt sheltered in my office, away from everyone else. But I wasn’t that far from Bright, because his office was ri

SophiaIt had been a long time since I’d slept peacefully. I didn’t know if it was because I had left the house where Bright’s memories consumed me, or because, after so long, I finally felt like I was in a real home. I had always loved my parents’ house and loved living there. I have always enjoyed it. But I got married, and started my own life, and everything changed for me. Then I got separated. After that, I came back one night after being threatened by strangers. And there I was. Lying on my old bed, in my old room, in the house of my childhood. I felt calm because my parents’ house had top-level security, and I had asked two werewolves to guard the house from the car. But my peace was shattered when I heard a desperate scream. It was my father’s voice. Something was wrong. My calm vanished in a second. My first thought was that someone had broken into the house to attack us. I couldn’t stay there if my parents were in danger.I jumped out of bed like I’d been sprung by a coil an

SophiaThis isn't my wedding, and yet, I have to look happier than the bride herself. The members and family of the Moonlight pack were celebrating James wedding, the Alpha and my brother. He had found his mate. The scent of expensive wine floated in the air, tempting me to drown my sorrows. Everyone was chatting cheerfully. Some people clapped for my brother and his wife as they danced on the luxurious dance floor. With a glass of champagne in hand I walked through the crowd, wearing a smile that seemed just right."Hey, Sophie!" my aunt called out from a distance. She wore a gorgeous dress, her face flushed with joy. "What a wonderful moment, right?! Look at them! They make such a great couple, and they're so young!"I quickly approached her and clinked my glass against hers. The crisp sound rang pleasantly in the lively atmosphere. "Auntie, you look just the same as always." I tilted my head back and drank the champagne in one go.The bubbles burst happily on my tongue, leaving a b

Sophia"You really know how to ruin my romantic evening, Sophia."The woman was frantically wiping her face. Her delicate makeup was totally ruined now. "Honey, look at what she did!" she choked out andtried to snuggle into his arms for comfort. But Bright mercilessly pushed her away."Get out! Go wash your face quickly. You're a nuisance" his voice was cold, without the slightest trace of warmth.I narrowed my eyes at his attitude. Bright deserved a beating. If I wasn't busy keeping my balance on these stilettos, I'd make sure he knew it."It wasn't my fault. And you!" she shot me a furious look, as if she wanted to kill me, then turned around and stormed out of the room. The sound of her heels echoed angrily against the floor. She should thank me for saving her. I raised the glass, but no drip in it. Bright walked toward me. He crossed his arms over his chest, his muscles subtly flexing. He looked at me with a flash of disgust in his eyes, as if expecting an apology. But at that m

SophiaThe headache woke me up. I rubbed my face and groaned from the discomfort. I don’t know why I drank so much, but I swear this is the last time I touch a drop of alcohol. I turned over in bed, looking for a comfortable position for my body. But I felt something strange. Something wasn’t right. I frowned. My bare skin touched a warm body. What the hell?My eyes flew open.Bright was asleep beside me. His calm breathing matched his relaxed face. His hair was messy, and one hand rested behind his head. The muscle in his arm was perfectly defined. The sheets covered him from the waist down, allowing me to see his toned abdomen.I understood why women went crazy for him. But my heart almost leaped out of my chest when I realized what I had done. The scent of his cologne was all over my body. A shower wouldn’t erase the memory of his fragrance on my skin. A shower wouldn’t erase what we did.Damn it. No. Why was this happening to me?I sat up in bed almost in a panic. I held my head,

SophiaMom took care of the wedding preparations, and Dad paid for everything. Both of them were eager to see me married to Bright after the scene in the hotel bedroom. They pressured me too much to bring the wedding forward as soon as possible to avoid my reputation being hurt. My brother wanted to kill Bright every time he was around.I found myself trapped in a dead-end path. Disappointing my parents wasn’t an option. I was born into a family with strict values and rules. The expensive dress was in front of me. It was an elegant design, with long sleeves and delicate lace. The bouquet of white flowers lay on the metal vase at one side of the room. Everything looked spectacular. My marriage to Bright had to be that way. Appearance. Ours was not real, and it never would be.I got myself into this mess. I had to take responsibility. After all, I was the one who told everyone I loved Bright. When the truth threatened to destroy me, I had to invent a lie. The consequence was maintainin

SophiaI decided to take a break from the madness of marriage. Mom and Dad were constantly pressuring me. They had a specific idea of how marriage should be, and Bright and I didn’t meet their expectations.Bright didn’t pressure me, but my family pressured him. Since we married, my brother has given him too many responsibilities in the pack. I think James wanted to separate Bright from me. I didn’t care, but my brother treated Bright unfairly. Anyway, I know James was trying to protect me from Bright. Since we married, Bright has had to be careful with his affairs. I didn’t mind that at all. I was more relaxed if someone can grab him from me.But faking it was exhausting. My parents constantly invited us to dinner to analyze us. It was stupid.I could barely focus on the conversation with my friends. Comments from the streets reached my ears.“Did you hear? Bright gave up his destined mate to be with Sophia. He’s in love with her and loves her. Who would give up their destined mate i

SophiaA storm was approaching. The air at the border was colder than I had imagined.I clung to my jacket, watching the trees and thinking about Bright. He had forbidden me from coming. I insisted, but I couldn’t convince him to take me and the pack with him. Bright was acting like a chauvinist. Did he really think I couldn’t defend myself?I didn’t listen to him and decided to come on my own. Alone, in the middle of the forest. I have to admit, the thought of disappearing made me uneasy. The disappearances of werewolves hadn’t happened in over a century. Who would dare to make them vanish? Bright’s concern this morning had warned me that the problem was immense. Maybe coming here wasn’t a good idea. But I couldn’t just sit idly by and do nothing. My brother led our pack, and something could happen to him.Bright was in charge of a group of werewolves. And… Dante.Something could happen to him. I would never forgive myself. Dante married another woman, but I couldn’t hate him. If som

SophiaMy mind could only focus on one thing: the way Bright grabbed his papers and walked out of the room as soon as Dante sat down. The silence continued pulsing in the room, where only the two of us were, waiting to see who would be the first to speak after a long while. But I really didn’t know how much time had passed. Maybe minutes. Maybe an eternity. Who knows? I lost touch with reality, traveling deep into a loop of endless thoughts.Dante didn’t say anything else. He sat in one of the chairs, crossed one leg over the other, and pulled his phone out of his pocket, checking messages as if it wasn’t worth talking to me anymore. I didn’t blame him. I didn’t even know if I was worth talking to. But there was a weight on my chest, the pressure of feeling his resentment toward me. I think he stayed in the room out of politeness, so as not to be rude like Bright was, but that didn’t mean Dante wanted to be there with me.He was probably hoping everyone would show up soon and this wou

SophiaThe werewolves accompanied me to the company to protect me. As usual.Since Bright had left the house and I didn’t have much to do, I asked my parents to get my office at the company ready so I could be responsible for my work there. I didn’t want to stay locked up at home for too long, afraid that someone might kidnap me. I felt more comfortable in the company of my people than alone at home. Yes, there were werewolves guarding me, but nothing in the world could take away the loneliness that was crushing me.But to be honest, I don’t think I left the house every morning just to avoid feeling lonely. I did it to be near Bright because I knew he was going to be at the company. Unfortunately for me, I’ve hardly seen him. He spent all his time in his office and rarely came out, and when he did, I didn’t say anything because I couldn’t find the words. He didn’t even look at me. It was like I didn’t exist. With every step I took down the deserted hallways, the sound of my heels echo

SophiaSince I woke up that morning, two days after Bright left home, I felt nervous. I knew something strange or bad was going to happen to me that day. When I picked up my phone from the nightstand and saw a message, I had the same feeling. Uncertainty ran through my veins, and I couldn’t help but reply to the person who sent it.An hour later, barely having had breakfast, I asked two pack members to escort me to my parents' company and had the rest stay and watch over my house. I didn’t like giving that kind of order to my pack, but James insisted they be there to protect me. The wolves did it gladly, and I always rewarded them with hot meals, and by letting them shower at my place and leave their things there. Truth be told, I’d done it more often since Bright left. The house felt damn empty without him there with me.I got out of the car, and both wolves accompanied me inside the company building for my safety, but I asked them to stay in the lobby so I could handle my business i

SophiaThere was no one with me at home because I rejected Dante’s offer to come see me after Bright left the house and didn’t return.I couldn’t allow myself to see Dante in my home, and I didn’t have the energy for it either. But my mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. I had been awake for hours —or rather, sleepless— sitting on the living room couch, wrapped in a blanket that couldn’t keep me warm. I kept searching for answers about where Bright could be right now.Was he with some girl? Did he sleep with someone else?Something inside my chest screamed it. I could feel it. The pressure in my chest wouldn’t let me think. Every second reaffirmed just how badly I had acted for not making up my mind in time. Really, all of this began when I married Bright. I should’ve never agreed to marry him. I went too far, and when I realized it, I had already hit the gas and jumped off the cliff, dragging someone with me.Bright.The early morning sky turned gray. Another storm was coming.Bright ha

BrightI left the packed suitcases at home. I was going to leave soon. I couldn’t keep breathing the same air in that house where Sophia had rolled around with Dante. That was my house too, and she didn’t even have the decency not to bring a man into her bed. Into our bed. I bought that bed for us. We slept there together. What happened wasn’t fair. What she did wasn’t fair.I couldn't forgive her. While I was risking my life at the border to gather information, Sophia and Dante were playing house in my bed.The bar door closed behind me with a dull thud, shutting me off from the outside world. The place was dimly lit, filled with smoke and low murmurs as if everyone there wanted to forget something. I hadn’t been to a bar like this in a long time, but that night I needed to forget a lot of things.I wanted alcohol to forget everything. I wanted to leave behind the person who hurt me.I walked heavily toward the bar, avoiding everyone’s gaze, ordering a double whiskey as soon as the b

SophiaI knew that guilt would come knocking at the door of my heart, but I never thought it would weigh as heavily as it did. I couldn't stop thinking about it. What I was doing was wrong. I wasn't referring to Dante himself, but to bringing him home to stay with me for a few days. He insisted on staying to protect me. I said no, but he was very persistent about it.Ever since Dante had moved into the house, everything seemed to move faster than I could process. We slept together. We had breakfast together. He talked about future plans while I could barely concentrate on the present. And now, three days after Bright had left for that mission with part of the pack, I found myself putting away the breakfast cups with Dante, trying to force a smile when I heard the sound of the front door suddenly opening.I froze.Dante kept talking, unaware of the panic beginning to boil under my skin. The door opened completely, and I saw him walk in, looking tired and upset. He seemed to have troubl
