Bright

There was no one else I could focus on but Sophia. I spent the entire day around her, making sure she was okay.

I took her to the medical check-up to make sure everything was fine with the baby, brought her tea into bed, and asked her a thousand times how she was feeling and if she needed anything. I was afraid of overwhelming her with my presence, but I didn’t know how else to do this.

I could see how fragile and, at the same time, how strong Sophia was… It confused me how she could endure so much. She didn’t say anything, but I saw her trembling when no one was watching, while the world was eating her up inside.

At times, Sophia tried to stay strong, but I could see how broken she was inside. Fear was paralyzing her, but she was trying to relax. Still, I saw her. I saw everything within her. I saw beyond the mask she tried to wear.

I wanted to take her far away from the city. I wanted to get away from all this madness. I wanted to escape the city and... Dante. He was a ghost

Sophia I can’t remember exactly when my mother’s voice faded away on the other end of the line while she kept talking to Bright about what had happened. Maybe it was when she said the word murdered. Maybe it was when she said there was a lot of blood in his office and they had tried to revive him, but they couldn’t.I just sat there on the couch. I’d fallen into it, while Bright still had the phone in his hand, as if the cold touch of the device could somehow help me understand what I’d just heard. But nothing made it clearer. Stefan was dead. That was the only thing my mind kept repeating.I felt Bright's approach, his shadow blocking part of the light coming from the hallway.“Sophia…” his voice was low, tense. “Look at me,” he asked, stepping closer.I forced myself to breathe before answering, though the words came out in a whisper. “Stefan… Bright… You… It’s just that he… he’s dead. Dead in his office. They killed him. Someone killed him.”Bright froze, unsure how to react. The

Sophia As I closed the meeting room door, the air in the hallway felt lighter, though inside me the weight of my conversation with Stefan still lingered. I took a few aimless steps, trying to sort out my thoughts, until I saw Dante leaning against the wall directly across from me.I froze in place. “What are you doing here?” I asked, a little surprised. “I forgot my lucky pen,” he replied with a half-smile, as if that were the most logical thing in the world.I looked at him for a few seconds, processing his answer, and finally nodded. “Oh… right.”Dante straightened and walked past me. When he opened the door, he stepped into the room with that relaxed confidence he never seemed to lose. I stayed in the hallway, watching him search. His gaze wandered over the meeting table, the papers, the folders… until he found it, right next to where I had been sitting just minutes earlier.“Here it is,” he said, lifting it slightly as if it were a trophy.I smiled faintly, unable to help it.

Sophia The other meeting rooms had completely emptied. The murmur of conversations and the scrape of chairs dragging against the floor still lingered in the air, like an echo that refused to fade away. I stood there, facing Stefan, feeling the silence settle in the hallway, looking straight at him. Both of us are uncomfortable. Both of us are in different realities. It was clear this wasn’t an easy conversation for him.The footsteps in the hallway stopped. Apparently, there was no one else left nearby. I wasn’t sure if that was good or bad. I didn’t know if the silence was a blessing or not.Stefan didn’t seem in a hurry to speak. His hands rested in his pockets, his gaze fixed on me with an intensity that made me uneasy. It wasn’t an aggressive discomfort, but rather a quiet weight that made me lower my eyes. The tension in the air was thick enough to cut with a knife. He looked at me, and I felt guilty, as if I had committed a crime. For a while, I hadn’t seen Stefan because I had

Sophia There were moments when I felt like life was testing me on purpose, as if it were playing a game to see how much I could endure before breaking or going insane. Being in that room, surrounded by all of them, was one of those moments. The sunset light filtered weakly through the large windows of the meeting room, casting an orange glow that, under different circumstances, might have felt warm and comforting. But not now. Not with Bright next to me, Dante leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, James sitting at the far end of the room with that defiant attitude I had grown far too familiar with, and Stefan… right in front of me, as if fate were mocking my attempts to keep up appearances. The tension was so thick I could feel it tightening in my throat, settling like a stone in my stomach. There was an artificial silence, one not born from respect or focus, but from all the unsaid words hanging in the air. We all pretended we were there for formal reasons, as if our pre

Sophia The elevator stopped on the executive floor, and I stepped out before Bright. The sound of my heels echoed down the silent hallway, bouncing off the sterile white walls of the company. Although everything seemed normal, there was a lingering tension that had been tightening my chest since we left the house. It felt like an invisible thread connected our every move, pulling tighter each time we got too close to the truth neither of us dared to say out loud.We entered the meeting room together. It was empty, as expected. There were still a few minutes before the others arrived. I took my usual seat at the side of the glass table, while Bright sat beside me, as if to offer mutual support. Though he hadn’t said a word since we left the car, his presence was solid, like he was trying to shield me just by being close.I took a deep breath and crossed my legs, trying to mask the unease I felt. The last time we were here together, things had been different. The last time Bright had b

BrightThe idea had been circling in my mind for days. It had settled like a persistent buzz in the background of my thoughts, growing louder every time I looked at Sophia and remembered how close she had come to being kidnapped. And how awful I felt for not being able to protect her.Dante.That name was a thorn in my side. I had no evidence, no concrete facts, just something in my gut. That instinct that had rarely failed me. It kept telling me something wasn’t right. That there were loose pieces in this puzzle, and every time I tried to fit them together, Dante’s face appeared in my mind.It didn’t make sense. Why would he want to hurt Sophia? He was supposed to protect her. He acted caring, kind, and even gentle. And that’s exactly what unsettled me. It was all too perfect. Too convenient. What better way to get close to her, to always be around, than to show up as her savior right when she needed someone the most?I couldn’t prove it. I had no solid proof. And I didn’t want to so
