LOGINChapter 3
Alice
I opened my eyes slowly. The light coming from the window was blinding. I looked over to the other side of the bed but Dean was already gone. Every part of my body ached, but the thought of last night only made me smile. It was so amazing and the fact that he was my first time made it even better.
I got off the bed slowly. I looked around my room and there were no clothes on the ground, which was weird because I remembered him throwing every piece of clothing I had on to the ground.
I got into my robe and went to the living room. Maybe he would be there. I wanted to see him again, but at the same time wouldn't it be weird? The living room was quiet. He was actually gone, but slowly my eyes landed on the kitchen table.
I quickly walked there only to find a cup of coffee and some bacon and toast. Did he actually do this? It made me smile even harder. I sat down and as I ate I kept reminiscing about last night. Even if it was a one night stand, I didn't care. I would never forget this moment.
When I was done eating I lifted the plates up to place them in the sink. That was when I saw it, a small note on the plate.
“Hope you enjoy the breakfast and your clothes are in the washing machine.”
I held that note for more than 10 minutes. I didn't know what to do with myself or how to even react. I felt so special, but I knew it didn't mean anything. He was just trying to be nice.
The rest of my weekend went by so fast and every single moment of every day I always thought about Dean and how special he made my first time feel.
Monday morning came sooner than expected and I was so excited. I didn't know why, well I kind of knew why. I was going to see him again. I smiled so hard my cheeks were slowly turning red.
I stared at my reflection in the mirror making sure I looked extra perfect. I always made sure I looked good, but today I was putting in extra effort.
I got to the office before he did and I tried to start work quickly because the meeting I had missed on Friday was really important to the company.
I tried my best to concentrate, I really did, but the moment the door opened and Dean walked in I felt the air literally leave my lungs.
He was dressed in a black suit as usual, his hair combed back, his blue eyes so charming and mesmerizing. “Good morning, Alice,” he greeted me, pulling me back from my thoughts that I was slowly getting lost in.
“Good morning, sir,” I replied quickly. He walked to his table and it wasn't long before his concentration was on his computer.
As I worked I kept looking at him from the corner of my eyes.
I didn't know what I was going to expect. He was my boss and I was his personal assistant. We had slept together and it was just a one night stand. I knew that for sure, but some part of me actually thought things would be different. I didn't know why, but I should have known better. Dean was an Alpha and I was a nobody.
“About Friday's meeting,” I began and he removed his attention from his computer to me, his expression cold as usual.
“You don't have to worry about that,” he said gently.
“Thank you, sir.”
He only gave me a small nod and went back to work like we didn't just share the best night of my life.
I didn't expect things to be this awkward. Well, maybe it was awkward for me and not for him. It didn't mean anything, I told myself over and over again until I started to believe it.
But throughout the entire day I could barely concentrate and Layla wouldn't stop texting me about dinner plans.
Immediately after work I made my way to her place. She had already made a whole lot of food and as we ate I could see her watching me from the corner of her eyes.
“You know it's weird, right?” I said.
“What is?”
“You watching me. Creepy.”
She smiled. “You just seem distant. Is something going on that I need to know?”
“Layla, can I please eat my food in peace?”
She picked up a glass of wine. “You can lie to everybody but you know you cannot lie to me, right?”
“Dean and I slept together,” I just blurted it out.
Layla's facial expression went from shock to curiosity to excitement in under one second.
“Are you kidding me?” she said almost yelling.
“No I'm not,” I replied, downing the entire wine in my cup.
“Wait, why aren't you excited?”
“Why should I be?” I said, placing my fork down. “It's not like he acknowledged the fact that we had something together and I know I shouldn't care or give a rat's ass, but I do and it is bothering me and I don't know what to do about it.”
“Oh my love,” Layla said in a soft voice. “It's normal for you to feel this way. You have loved Dean from the first moment you laid your eyes on him, so what you're feeling right now is perfectly normal, but it will go away soon. Plus you should be happy your first time was with a powerful and sexy Alpha. That, my dear, would help you sleep well at night.”
I didn't know when I began laughing. “Can you stop?”
“No, I'm serious. That man is fine as hell.”
“Damn right.”
“But Alice, you know he likes you, right?”
My fork stopped halfway to my mouth. “No he doesn't. Because he slept with me doesn't mean he likes me and from his actions at work today he sure as hell doesn't like me.”
Layla only smiled. “Keep telling yourself that.”
TWO MONTHS LATER
I had gotten super good at lying to myself. Every morning I woke up, went to work, and sat across from Dean trying to forget that night, but he made it very easy because he acted professional and more cold than ever. I knew that night was just a distant memory to him, but he wasn't to me and I had tried everything possible to forget. Nothing was working and seeing him every day wasn't helping either.
But today wasn't like every other day because I sat down on my bathroom floor holding a pregnancy test in my hand and i
t showed two pink lines. No matter how I blinked they weren't disappearing.
I was pregnant.
Chapter 31 A Mother's NightmareAlice"Zade... Zade, open your eyes and look, it's Mommy."I shook my son's body, but he wasn't moving. He just looked lifeless.I stood up slowly and turned to Nico, who stood by the corner."What the hell happened to my child?""I have no idea," he replied. He looked as confused as I was."Get the pack healer," he said to Violet, and without question, she stepped out of the room."Mommy, what happened to Zade?" Zara asked, looking at me with her innocent eyes. "We were only playing, then he fell down, honey. He refused to get off the floor.""I don't know, sweetheart," I replied, trying so hard not to cry in front of her, but it wasn't working because I didn't know when the tears started streaming down my cheeks.Nico picked up Zara."You're bothering Mommy," he said in a cute voice. "Don't worry, your brother is going to be fine."The reassurance in his voice made her feel better, but it didn't make me.I was freaking out but trying to stay calm. The
Chapter 30 Alice What the hell was wrong with me? Why would I say that to him? That was all I kept asking myself when I got back to my room. I had cried so hard my throat felt sore. Seeing him with someone else... It felt like someone was touching what was mine. But Niko didn't belong to me. He wasn't mine. I didn't know why I was feeling this way, but one thing was for sure—I did not want to feel like this. I didn't want to feel anything for him. But I couldn't stop myself. I fell backward onto the bed and... I just wanted to sleep and forget all of this. I didn't want to leave. This place was probably the most amazing place I had ever lived in my life, and Zara and Zade loved it here. I ran a hand through my hair. Why was my life this complicated? I closed my eyes, trying to force myself to sleep, but it was midday, and I could never fall asleep during the day no matter how much I wanted to. Oh God. A knock landed on my door, and whoever was on the other side di
Chapter 29 Niko Alice stopped, and I wasn't sure exactly what I was thinking when those words left my mouth. "Alice..." "Yes?" she said, slowly turning around to face me. "Could you please sit?" She did, and suddenly I didn't know what to say. "Could you tell me the actual reason why you're not sleeping?" The moment those words left my mouth, I regretted them. Why did I ask such a stupid question? What if she started crying? "What if I told you that I was contemplating going back to New York?" "Why?" I asked with a frown. "My best friend." I could hear the worry in her voice, and I could see it all over her face. "She hasn't been picking up my calls for a while, and I'm afraid something bad might have happened to her. I just don't know what to do." "Why don't you try reaching out to someone else to check up on her for you?" "That's the thing. I don't have anyone else. Layla is literally my life, and I cannot bear anything happening to her. She hasn't even met my kids,
Chapter 28 Alice I sat in the corner of my kids' room, watching as Zara put beads in Niko's hair while Zade painted his nails. I was trying so hard not to laugh. I kept forcing my expression to stay normal, but what instantly broke me was when Niko winked at me. I couldn't help it. "Doesn't he look pretty?" Zara asked innocently. "Of course, sweetheart," I said between laughs. "He looks gorgeous." I was surprised at how calm Niko was. For crying out loud, he was the Alpha of one of the biggest packs in London, and he was playing with my kids as if he were just a normal guy. Maybe it was. I didn't know. But just watching them... It made me feel like there was something missing. Even though I knew what it was, I didn't want to admit it. "We should have a wedding," Zara said to Niko. "Oh, really?" Niko replied with the biggest smile I had ever seen. Zara nodded. "Who's going to be the bride?" Niko asked in a playful voice. "Mummy will." Zade pointed at me. Niko laugh
Chapter 27LaylaI stared at the picture on my desk for more than a minute before picking it up and bringing it closer to my face.It was me and Alice. We had gone to some circus-themed party, and we were so young but so happy.I ran my hand over her picture. She looked like she was having the time of her life.It was like nothing bad had ever happened to us.And now, my best friend was halfway across the world with twins.I had only seen pictures of them. It’s been years, and we barely talked.I knew she was going to think I had abandoned her or forgotten about her, but there were people on my tail, and I couldn’t let them find out about Alice.I placed the picture back gently on the table, pulled on my hoodie, and walked to the door.I picked up the umbrella resting beside it before I left.It was drizzling, and where I was heading was the sketchiest part of town. And the only reason I was going there was because there was someone who could actually help me there. And whatever it to
Chapter 26DeanWhen I opened my eyes, I couldn't see anything at first, and I couldn't feel anything either. The insane pounding I had been feeling in my head before everything went dark was gone, and I wasn't exactly sure where the hell I was."Oliver?" I called out for my cousin. But instead of a reply, only the sound of my own voice echoed back at me.It felt like I was standing in an empty room."Oliver!" I screamed his name again.Still nothing.I looked around, and I was in total darkness, but the further I walked, the closer I got to the small ray of light I saw coming from... I wasn't sure where the light was coming from, and I didn't even know how I got here.It felt like I'd been walking for hours, and when I finally got to where the light was coming from, I could barely breathe. I felt unexplainably tired.I stood in front of a door, and all along the light had been coming from the peephole of the door.I pushed it with so much force, but I quickly realized I didn't even n
