Chapter 7.7

Flashback*

Unknown POV.

Divine hall, ancient London.

' I cannot take this anymore. You have to do something about it'

'sorry son, nothing can be done' your destiny is already tied to hers'

'are you not the most powerful being?'

'I am' * answered boringly*

'then why can't you just lift this f**king curse?'

'first, it is a punishment not a curse and secondly, do not curse in my presence'

' Okay whatever. I just want you to know that this girl you are claiming is part of my destiny is not even born yet'

'I know' *says firmly*

' then why do you want me to stay on earth and watch as the people I grow to love die whiles I wait for a fucking little girl who is not even born yet?'

'calm down son. I know you are suffering but you will understand the good side of this when she appears'

'And how am I supposed to know that she is even born?'

'You will feel it'

Present day, London.

' Brian, I do not want to seem too hard to confince but I cannot trust him just like that. You know?' Jessa says worriedly to Brian.

Even though she is thankful that Brian managed to secure a reputable job for her within a short time, she still does not want to get herself into something she would regret later.

' I know you are having trust issues after all that happened to you and I do not blame you for that at all but now, I want you to know that you are like a sister to me and I will never wish evil on you, I will never recommend something that will be of damage to you in the future.'

Brian tells Jessa, staring straight in her eyes with soft eyes.

He wants to try all his best to assure Jessa that she can trust his choices for her, that the job he is recommending for her is a good one.

'I know but I do not want anymore complications. Just as I did not know the true motive of Halley and Randel, who knows and how sure are we that other people too do not already know about this great fortune?' Jessa says, clearly worried.

'Hey do not worry, he is a good man.

If you still want to find out more, you can confront Ben. He used to work as his personal assistant.

I know that what your ex-fiancé and ex-best friend did to you has managed to plant this seed of fear and distrust in you but trust me, even if by some way Edmond finds out about this great fortune, he will never cheat you for it, that I can strongly promise you.' Brian says with certainty dripping out of every word he utters.

Jessa POV

I trust Brian as a brother but I still want to be sure that the man Brian wants me to work with is a good man, a man who is not greedy, one who would not try to cheat me for something I have that I do not even know yet.

I want a boss who will be strictly professional with me.

I try to ignore the urge to go to Ben's room for further confirmations, I try every possible best in me to believe everything Brian has told me about my future boss but the curiosity that is burning inside of me is too strong that I can’t bring myself to resist.

Even though I keep contemplating on whether or not to go to Bernard, before I even realize, I am already in-front of Ben's room so I gather the wits and push myself to just get it over with.

A little bit of questions is not going to cause any harm, right?

Knock! Knock! I knock gently on Bernard’s door.

' coming!' I hear the sound of a running shower stop as I hear Ben shout that he would be with me in a few minutes.

I decide to go and come back later, since I think Ben may be showering.

But before I can even turn around, I see a figure stand before me with only a towel hugging on his waist.

Standing in all his glory is Bernard in only a towel.

I stare at him from his V-line up to his luscious abs which are covered with beads of water that are dripping from his hair.

He could have just wore something?

He looks just like some sort of a calvin klein model.

In fact, he would have no problem posing as a model for any company.

His body is the kind you find on the front page of men magazines.

Finally, my stare reaches his face and I do not fail to notice an I-know-what-you-are-thinking kind of smirk on his beautiful lips.

' Done checking me out?' Bernard ask in a very cheeky way. Ugh! Men and their egos!

'Hey, do not get your hopes up. There is nothing too special to see. I have seen better.’ I say as I bow my head to hide the slight blush that has creeped its way onto my cheeks.

‘ Oh yeah? If you say so Jessa. Anyways, why are you here?' Ben ask as he raise a perfect brow at me.

' I want to talk to you about something' I respond to him with a stern voice, switching to my serious mode.

' Okay, Come on, in' He says as he opens his door wide to make space for me to go through.

Will someone tell this fine man to go find something to wear?

~

Jessa’s POV

Please make yourself comfortable whiles I put on some clothes.’ Ben tells me as he points to a sofa.

I make myself comfortable just as he told me as he also enters his walk in closet to finally put on something.

Ben returns after some few minutes and also makes himself comfortable on the sofa, making sure to keep a good amount of space between us.

‘So what did you want to talk about?’ Ben asks me.

He is now changed into a sweat pant.

I think this guy has a thing for showing his abs because he chooses not to wear any shirt.

It is not like I mind him being half naked or anything but it would have been descent for him to wear something.

‘I heard from Brian that you once worked for one mr. Matchington. Is that right?’ I ask him.

‘Yeah I did. Why do you ask anyways?’ He asks, looking confused that I would come to ask him questions about his previous boss.

Of course, anyone would have been confused.

‘Oh it is nothing really serious. Brian has recommended I work with him so I just wanted to know how things were for you when you worked for him.

Precisely, I want to know how it feels to be his personal assistant.’ I ask him in a very serious tone.

‘Oh I see. Working for mr. Matchington would feel quite strict for you at first but as time goes on, you will grow into it.

Do not try to initiate any friendships with him. He likes things to be strictly professional.’ Bernard says, also slipping into serious mode.

‘He looks like a typical C.E.O. But I can do all that. Been strictly professional is exactly what I want.

I just do my work and mind my business, that is pretty easy.’ I say as I smile at Bernard but he keeps on his serious face.

‘Yes. Just do your work neatly and mind your business and everything will be smooth for you.’ He tells me as he stares at me intently, finally allowing a smile to break on his lips.

‘Thank you for this information. It was educational.’ I thank him.

‘Welcome.’ He responds with a smile.

Finally, I have gotten my answers from Ben.

Ben has indeed told me all that I think I need to know about this mr. Matchington and based on all what Ben has told me together with what Brian said, I believe he is a great man.

But hey, that does not mean I will be letting my guards down.

I am not letting my walls down. Never!
