Across the Cafeteria… Someone Was Watching

At the far end of the cafeteria, hidden behind his newspaper like a spy in a comedy film, the dean Mr Micheal, was watching the table. His glasses sat low on his nose, but his eyes were sharp and calculating.

He had been observing them for almost 20 full minutes.

Carlson’s unexpected involvement.

Randy’s reluctant silence.

Their sudden closeness.

The shift in group dynamics.

The tension beneath the surface.

He lowered the newspaper just enough to exhale through his teeth.

His expression wasn’t anger, it was concern mixed with warning.

“Trouble really does like company,” he muttered under his breath.

He folded the newspaper carefully, tucked it under his arm, and walked away without finishing his tea.

But one person noticed him leave.

Mrs. Brenda carrying a tray of bottled drinks for the staff meeting, paused mid-step. Her eyes followed the Dean.

“So,” she whispered to herself, “you’re keeping an eye on them too.”
