CHAPTER 8

Mr. Fernandez demeanor became cold the moment he heard her. he came closer to her, looked at her deeply into her eyes, with an emotion Lily couldn’t decipher. “so you can compensate me for my damaged car?”

“that is part of it. I don’t have the money to pay, and I really don’t want to live a life of debt”

“what if I say, I forgive you, and you don’t have to pay a single dime? would you leave me alone?”

Lily was taken aback but she knew it was a what if situation. Could he be testing her resolve? She tried to decipher something, any single emotion in his eyes, to see if he was serious but she couldn’t get anything. It hurt her that he might have meant what he said, what she didn’t understand was why he was resisting her so much.

“if you forgive me, I’d be so grateful, but that won’t stop me from wanting to know you.” this time, she didn’t falter and insisted on what she wanted.

The man was speechless. Under those void eyes, Fernandez was genuinely intrigued. Asides Lily, he had never seen any girl who persevere like her. he had met a lot of ladies who desired him but he turned them down because the desired him for the fame, affluence and connections. Once he turned them down, they left him alone, even though they hated him because he hurt their pride. He wondered how she would react when she found out that…

“since we met you’ve been eager to know me, why do you want to get close to me so bad?” he asked, his eyes probing.

“why are you stopping me from knowing you?” she shrugged innocently

“oouu” the man wearing leather jacket said and hid his grin. The old man turned to another direction, backing Mr. Fernandez to hide his grin too. But Lily and Fernandez were so fixated on each other they didn’t notice them.

“why are you vehemently stopping me from knowing you? I know I’m not like that lady you were with that day but I’m not bad. you refuse me like something is wrong with me and honestly, I don’t appreciate it” Lily bravely said. She spoke so bravely but deep down, it shook her core. What gave her the morale to talk she didn’t know, probably the praises she got from Diana? Eric? She honestly didn’t know

At that moment, the man just stared at her, his eyes unreadable as he continued to gaze with probing intensity into her eyes. He leaned in on her, not breaking their eye contact. His attracting face loomed closer, so close that his breath could touch her face, leaving her dumbstruck.

“Lily…” he uttered her name. “stop being stubborn. You really don’t know who I am, what I do and what kind of life I live. Don’t let social media fool you. I’m not kind, I’m not one you should fall for at all. If you know me, you’ll hate me. if you come close, like I said earlier you. will. Burn.”

“you know all these things you’re saying is going in one ear and coming out of the other, how about you give me a chance, we won’t know till we try”

Fernandez straightened his back and continued staring at Lily, his eyes still unreadable “Like I said you’re not my type, I don’t date girls like you”

“you know, you are funny. After saying let’s give it a try, you come up with ‘I’m not your type’ excuse. You actually want me Fernandez” Lily said, she smiled and folded her arms. She still maintained the eye contact, daring Fernandez to say otherwise.

Meanwhile, the leather jacket man and the old man watched their banter animatedly.

Fernandez slowly clinched his fist. “Listen miss Lai” he began “I’m warning you, LEAVE. ME. ALONE” he said and immediately left her. the old man and leather jacket man straightened, snapping out of their intent interest in Lily and Fernandez discussion.

“what if I say no? I don’t want to leave you alone” lily innocently yelled and turned back. Fernandez came to a halt, his fists clinched tightly and his brows furrowed. He immediately turned back

“Are you daft?” he harshly said, his eyes were crimson red at this point
